A level of freedom of speech that just isn't tolerated in so many other countries
A welfare system that, whilst isn't perfect, is still better than many others
NHS healthcare that's available to all and, as under attack and pressure as it is, is still better than anything available elsewhere
Education for all
4th most generous charitable country in the world, topped only by USA, New Zealand and Canada

awaits the usual critics who love to criticise Britain

The churches. I love visiting them when in England. They have so much history and there seems to be a strong community spirit.
In Horsham I was disappointed that the church was locked. A member came as I turned to leave and unlocked it for prayer and asked if I would like to join her. I thought it was a lovely thing to do.

It was announced today that we are the first country in the world to approve the use of a new drug to treat severe covid cases. I’m not sure of the name but it’s described as a game changer especially as it comes in pill form to be taken at home, thereby keeping people out of hospital.

Also of course we were one of the first countries in the world to start vaccinating against the virus last December.

Just two more things to join the long list of what is great about this country.

Despite, all the bad news and scandal, generally we have one of the best, fairest and most transparent police forces in the world.

Compare them withe the US police, China, Portugual, most of Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Central America.

I would add tolerance to that long list ?
In spite of all that is said and read in certain quarters, we are still a highly tolerant country, in matters of race particularly,
And also religion, and respect the rights of others to live differently, dress differently and worship differently.
Also a British sense of humour, a certain stoicism and self deprecation.

It's not my post, (only the first couple of ideas), it's the contributions of others last night when the idea of this thread started. I didn't want them to feel overlooked.

Our countryside is beautiful, especially my part of the world in Derbyshire.

We aren’t usually fried in the Summer and up to our eyes in snow in the Winter.

Yes you can, many you can’t. This though is about Britain and the best things about it.
