I’ve just listened to Nimrod, from the Enigma Variations, and I didn’t shed a tear
Tell me about your tear jerkers x

Ditto to Panis Angelicus - the version on a CD by a niece’s school choir. She sang the solo, in a very pure and sweet soprano. TBH it beats any version I’ve ever heard on Classic FM!

Another one even more guaranteed to have me groping for the tissues, is little kids singing Away In A Manger at a school Nativity play.

Mario Lanza singing Golden Days from the Student Prince.
Beautiful.

One that I simply cannot listen to is ‘And I love her’ by The Beatles.
My dad listened to it in secret just after my mom died.
For similar reasons ‘The Crying Game’, sung by Boy George

Nimrod for me too - had it at Dad’s funeral, ex RAF. It gets to me every year at The Cenotaph too.
Jim Croce’s Time in a Bottle is another that brings the tears.

Alegrias1

Panis Angelicus - I sang it with our school choir several decades ago and we made our form teacher cry.

Nessun dorma; Bocelli in the cathedral of Milan or Pavarotti when the Italian planes flew at the start of the Italian lockdown.

And definitely Nimrod.

I remember Bocelli outside the Duomo. That even made my brother cry.

Love of my life - Extreme

Sweet Sixteen- The Furies and Davey Arthur.

I Am Australian - The Seekers. Always think of DD who lives there.

This time of year, things like We’ll Gather Lilacs and The Last Rose Of Summer- just seem so poignant somehow.

Lots more, I have to listen to them alone and wallow as DH thinks I’m soppy. blush

Kathleen Ferrier, what a voice ! I love to listen to her. I have a bonnet trimmed with blue - a great favorite of mine - makes me smile ☺️ not cry ?.

I love What is Life to me without thee, especially sung by Kathleen Ferrier.
Sunrise, Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof.
The duet from The Pearl Fishers
O min babino Caro
Bailerò from Songs of the Auvergne, this one perhaps because it was one of my Dad's favourites but it is very beautiful.

No, I do cry, it was played at my friend's funeral.

Wiederstehe doch der Sunde is sublime - brings on an incredible feeling of calm in me, but no tears☺️.

Beethoven, 2nd movement of 7th symphony,2nd movement of Brahms violin concerto. O soave fanciulla from La Boheme and ‘Panis Angelicus - but must be sung by Pavarotti. Get the Kleenex ready before you listen to any of them - oh and the theme tune from ET always gets me too - even 40 years later !!

Dido’s lament - Purcell
Cello concerto - Elgar
Eternal source of light divine - GF Handel

Nice to see a mention of the Handel. Wonderful piece.

There are so many pieces that make me want to cry. At the moment almost any Chopin piano music is having that effect on me. I think it’s the mixture of beauty and nostalgia. When I was a teenager, almost everyone I knew tried to play Chopin - and sometimes succeeded!
