I can't understand why anyone would speculate about dementia in this way. How would you feel if people were talking about you hinting that your mind was failing in any way?

Her Majesty is now of an age when aches and pains do occur more frequently, and she is entitled to step back whenever necessary. Her recent public events clearly show she is alert and interested, as she always has been. Nobody needs to know the exact reasons.

I cannot see anything wrong in Prince Charles stepping in and covering more of her duties if required, as he is at present. No need for any official move unless the Queen wishes it, which in view of all she has said, I doubt she will.

Completely agree.

She's 95, has recently lost her husband and has had to deal with horrendous family issues this past year. It would be strange if her health wasn't suffering given her age and the stress she's under.

Isn’t this the trouble though with the few trickles of information we get told? By saying that she is entitled to privacy over her health.

Aveline Mon 15-Nov-21 12:20:58

She was photographed out driving last week. Bad backs can strike anyone in particular elderly people who may have osteoporosis. Poor soul. I hope she's feeling much better soon. It's good that she has family to step in for her activities.

What is this obsession with dementia on these boards? As soon as anyone has a problem of any kind people think it's dementia. As others have said, there is absolutely no reason to think the Queen has this, so stop diagnosing from your sofa, when you have no first hand knowledge of the person or their health.

No I dont think its dementia she is reported as being as sharp a a tack. What I do think is that she has been getting progressively more bent over and may have osteoporosis which is very painful. I feel for her and hope she gets plenty of rest but not too frustrated.

I think we feel a sense of loss already, as she’s always been there, like our own parents. I loved her speech “We’ll meet again” during the dark days of the pandemic.

Note to travelsafar not being rude honestly but if you are asking if the queen has dementia maybe the odd ? Mark would make it clear…..

Lucca Mon 15-Nov-21 11:15:27

Sorry but I think all this speculation about the queen’s health is getting a bit silly. Why should you think she has dementia ?

If she has a bad back the she has a bad back. I was once in pain for three days after bending slightly to pick something up off the bed.

If it’s more than that and being kept quiet then that is also fine.

GrannyMacawell Mon 15-Nov-21 11:14:34

So have you been with the Queen much to observe these signs of dementia?

midgey Mon 15-Nov-21 11:09:00

I have read of people finding going back to the office tough, imagine having a year off for the first time in your life and suddenly having to go back to the sort of life a royal lives….add on the fact that you have been widowed and are 95 years old. I think we are being unrealistic and unreasonable to ever think the Queen could return to ‘normal’.

Cold Mon 15-Nov-21 11:05:03

I don't think it's dementia - she was doing lots of events until a few weeks ago.

I think it is a physical issue which at 95 is no big surprise. I also think she's quite stubborn and was clinging on to being able to appear at the Remembrance service as it is so important to her - however at her age, and having been unwell, any event held outside in November was a bit optimistic

Smileless2012 Mon 15-Nov-21 11:01:54

Who has said the Queen is having mental health issues travelsafar and what are these signs of dementia you refer too?

Zoejory Mon 15-Nov-21 10:57:25

No evidence of dementia whatsoever. She's been out and about and on Zoom recently.

She's 95. She's needing to cut back some of her activities.

Casdon Mon 15-Nov-21 10:56:45

Whatever the issue is with her health it’s not dementia I would wager travelsafar, she’s very sharp and still has her sense of humour when you see her on conference calls.

I have been listening to a radio prog about whether or not the Queen should give up the throne to Charles as she is starting to have health issues. The thought struck me has she started showing signs of dementia at 95 years old. Its not long since she lost her beloved husband and like in many marriages if this illness starts the other person covers for them in many ways. Now its about 6 months since his death are they more apparent and she is no longer able to hide it and the family are concerned about her. I hope and pray she is really suffering only with back pain but i have a niggly feeling it may be more than the palace is disclosing. I truely hope i am wrong. God bless her.
