How on earth can you wash yourself properly and throughly in 4 minutes - anthen completely rinse all the soap off your skin? OK after a swim. but a proper wash? This is why I have a bath, but only every other day.

How much water you use depends on your water pressure. You consume more water in 4 minutes if your water pressure is high than you do if it is low.

How dirty can you be unless doing a heavy manual job?

It’s obvious that some people on here have no concept of what a precious resource water is.

Exactly. Many countries already in water poverty. It'll reach us eventually and then it'll be a splash with a bucket of water that's reused for the car / plants etc.

Well I’m staggered! I take a good ten minutes every day for a shower. I sit on my little stool and get really wet, it’s the only physical touch I get on my body apart from clothes. The warmth helps my muscles and the aches in my bones. I save water in other ways and my meter reading is low. I use the washing machine once a week on a quick wash and wash dishes with a half bowl of water every other day. I don’t drink tea or coffee so never boil a kettle so hardly ever turn on a tap.

Every time I see the heading of this thread in the trending box I think its something to do with interrogation techniques...

That’s exactly what I thought!

Yes, that's what I do, 25Avalon, and I understand that that is known as a Australian shower. (Does that make sense,nanna8 ?) To be fair, it doesn't work with some kinds of shower as the water goes cold and then has to heat up again, but those of us who can, probably should do it.

This is not just to save water but to reduce your carbon footprint from heating the water etc. You can get gadgets that used to be free from water boards, that reduce the flow. Other suggestions, apart from having cold showers, are to switch off the shower whilst you lather up, then switch back on to rinse off.

I don’t waste any water, and I mean any
So it’s in shower, wet hair, water off, shampoo. Wet flannel, wash all over, rinse off.
I reckon I’m well within 1 min for whole shower and shampoo.

i have not been allowed a shower for the past two months,,,,only a wash down as hospital doctors say, i have dressings on my groin area and can't risk shower gel, soap etc going into open wounds (they are keeping them open) the first thing i am going to do when the wounds are healed is have a very very very long shower and i don't care if i come come out looking like a wrinkled prune.

Can't see that 4 minutes is impossible. I can do it in a lot less than that, even if I wash my hair. And what's more, I don't have a shower every day, so there!

kircubbin2000 Wed 17-Nov-21 12:32:51

4 minutes seems perfectly adequate . When the family are home though they steam up the whole room and take ages.

Shelflife Wed 17-Nov-21 12:01:23

I am in and out of the shower each morning in probably less than 4 minutes and that includes washing my hair sometimes! I do linger longer occasionally, but IMO 4 minutes is sufficient time to wash in the shower.

Calistemon Wed 17-Nov-21 11:53:14

Perhaps if we all get a crew cut it would help?

I've never timed myself.

wildswan16 Wed 17-Nov-21 11:30:20

I think I must be in and out of the shower in a lot less than four minutes. Sometimes I am more leisurely about it, but that is quite long enough for a good soap and rinse all over.

I'm sure I've managed it in 30 seconds when running late for work.

Teacheranne Wed 17-Nov-21 11:15:31

I could shower in under four minutes but I prefer long showers! As I live on my own and have a water meter, my monthly bill is very low, by far the smallest of all my utility bills so not something I need to worry about.

From an environmental aspect, I’m not sure that how much water we use affects things here in the NW where our reservoirs are currently full and on the whole water is not in short supply. Our water usage will not change how much it rains! I’m sure someone here will put me right!

Although thinking about it, the shorter the shower, the less gas I use to heat the water in my combo boiler so I guess that is a consideration. I might try timing my next shower to see how long I take, I’m not sure I’d finish washing my hair!

tanith Wed 17-Nov-21 11:08:43

Only takes me longer when I wash my hair too, I was in and out really quick today as I’d forgotten to turn the heating up and it was ccccold in the bathroom.

MiniMoon Wed 17-Nov-21 11:04:57

When we changed over to a water meter, I received a pack with helpful hints on saving water. It came with an egg timer type thing to stick to the shower door. It takes three minutes for the sand to run through.
It never takes me any longer than that to shower.

mumofmadboys Wed 17-Nov-21 10:36:45

I think 4 minutes is a reasonable length of time to shower if one is fairly fit. I agree it may take elderly folk longer.

midgey Wed 17-Nov-21 10:36:06

That’s been the advice for a long time. When I was at boarding school in the early sixties we had ten minutes in the bathroom…run the bath, clean teeth etc and clean the bath afterwards!

Bluebellwould Wed 17-Nov-21 10:32:49

I’ve just read the information given on my latest water board missive. Apparently we are only supposed to take a 4 minute shower when we shower. Really! How much of you could you wash in 4 minutes? I think I’d get a foot and perhaps lower leg clean but the rest of me wouldn’t even get wet. Who are the idiots that came up with this idea, perhaps they’re off lying down in roads somewhere so they don’t need to take showers.
