Drinking that disgusting bowel prep formula and emptying my bowels in preparation for the sigmoidoscopy tomorrow….?

mokryna Sun 21-Nov-21 13:15:03

I agree with you the preparation is awful, I made me retch. When I had mine a few years ago, in France, I was given as a matter of course, no choice, a general anesthetic.

It depends on what part of your digestive system they are trying to look at whether you can have an enema or need to take the clean prep stuff. Thats what they told me when I had to take that vile lemon stuff.

Thank you all very much for your information re moviprep really helpful so I will definitely ask when the time comes about an alternative.

Thank you shinamae just dread the thought of having to drink that stuff again more than what comes next!!! I wonder if they still do the enemas like they used to do years ago. I think I would prefer it!

I have a friend who has these investigations fairly regularly and she gets an alternative to moviprep because she insists I think !
It’s worth a try. On my second one I had a drink that was at least just a glassful then a home enema, not too bad in fact. I’m going to ask for that for my next one in six months time.

Shinamae happy to hear your news ?
Gwyneth sorry to hear your news ?

Gwyneth, I know there's more than one drink, as my friend couldn't keep the stuff down, so next time she was given a 'slightly better' tasting one.

Shinamae Sat 20-Nov-21 23:28:15

I do sympathise with you as that stuff is absolutely disgusting but needs must……????(I agree I think I would’ve preferred the enema, it’s certainly worth asking)

I’m really pleased that everything went well for you Shinamae. I had a colonoscopy on Friday and the preparation stuff made me feel very sick. I still feel a little nauseous now. Unfortunately my result wasn’t that good, so will need further treatment.

Sorry to hear that…..??

I’ve had several diverticulitis attacks. One where I was taken to hospital, the second was just a paramedic at my house.
My problem is, when I get an attack I’m mindful of the night my ex husbands grandma was taken to hospital and came out with a stomper.
Having said that, me and my daughter sometimes have a laugh at some of the gory details of my attacks.
Sometimes situations are so bloody awful you have to laugh.

Ummm what exactly is a stomper MS?….

I suspect that should say a stoma.

Ahhhhhhh…. You could well be right

Glad they found nothing nasty bar the diverticulitis Shinamae . Have a good night - feet up and relax.

Thank you so much, have had my feet up for a few hours and I’m binge watching rubbish TV whilst eating not very healthy food! ?

Shinamae ? and ??

I have had diverticular disease for ten years. It hardly bothers me. Just have to be careful of diverticulitis which is when the diverticulosis becomes infected.

Exactly, and touchwood i’m the same as you and have never developed diverticulitis but a friend of mine did and said it is very, very painful ?

Mapleleaf Sat 20-Nov-21 16:28:15

So pleased to read that nothing nasty was found, Shinamae. Time to put your feet up now ?

Good news, Shinamae, such a relief.
Diverticulitis can be unpleasant but it is manageable.

LindaPat Sat 20-Nov-21 15:59:43

Glad it all went ok Shinamae. I had to drink the vile stuff about 3 years ago before a procedure, and ended up phoning the department in tears because I just couldn't force down the last bit. They said it would be ok to leave it. It was down the sink in seconds!
One tip I had , from a nurse at work, was to have a children's lollipop by me, and have a quick drink , then suck the lolly. It did help a bit, but that stuff is disgusting. I'm sure it could be made to taste more pleasant.
Take care xx

Namsnanny Sat 20-Nov-21 15:14:11

I've spent the day unblocking our lavatory/loo/toilet (ref to another thread, I'm now not sure what to call it!).
And I was thinking of you ?Shinamae and your consultant ?.
? Sorry probably not very appropriate.
