There is a short clip on MSN news where an Aldi staff member insists that the man moves his silver car. The only problem is it is not his car and the member of staff will not accept this. The man completely keeps his composure and asks Her if she has the keys to the car because it is not his. Well whose is it she asks? He replies I have no idea but that is my car up there. Well I want you to move it now she says. Okay no problems he says and walks towards his vehicle and the clip ends. I think I would have asked why do you think the silver car is mine and for what reason do you want me to move my car, is it causing an obstruction or are you just being a jobsworth. Truly bizarre behaviour from this employee. How do you think you would have reacted to this?

I'd probably have backed nervously away from her. Bizarre behaviour unless there was a language barrier.

I've actually just watched the video. It's like something out of candid camera.
What on earth was the woman thinking?

I would either have ignored her once I had explained that the car was not mine, or have demanded to speak to her supervisor.

The Aldi Bridlington store in St John's Street, where the car parking incident took place, only opened for the first time on Thursday

It will probably open for the last time on Friday!

The stress has gotten to her before she’s started work.

Thank you for highlighting that clip.
Hysterical! grin

I thought the best bit was when he said it wasn't his car and she asked, well whose is it then? ??

Redhead56 Tue 23-Nov-21 17:06:04

It sounds like she has lost the plot.

I would have gone to my car, climbed in and driven off, waving to her as I left. Rather odd behaviour.

I bet that poor woman is feeling totally embarrassed now with all the publicity. Very odd behaviour though.

The man dealt with the situation with patience and good humour. The assistant might not be so lucky in the future.

Chewbacca. That’s just what I thought, too. I use Aldi and Lidl weekly. Staff in both shops have been marvellous in many ways a person who isn’t disabled couldn’t realise. My shopping is always put in carrier bags for me, a staff member always seems to appear when I’m trying to hook something into reach from a high shelf etc. BUT the latest shop to open locally has already got a reputation for downright nasty ness. Not always the individuals choice. An assistant told me she couldn’t pack my bag for me at the checkout as she’d been told not to. I left about 4 bags of shopping on the conveyer belt saying I’d go to the older branch where they were obviously told to Help, customers. I was followed to my car by an older assistant who said there must have been a mistake and they would obviously put my shopping into bags and even carry it out to my car for me.
I went to the older branch where the assistance was given in a friendly, capable way without my having to ask.
A staff member told me on another occasion that she thought the staff recruited for that shop were not of the right type for shop work.

Reminds me of the time I was told I had an antenatal appointment by the hospital receptionist. I said I was 60 and I certainly didn't have an appointment. She was very insistent that I had!

Growing0ldDisgracefully Wed 24-Nov-21 11:32:59

I haven't seen it, but what bizarre behaviour!

Inishowen, that's priceless! Thank you for brightening up the morning!

I wouldn't have engaged with her after saying "sorry, not mine" she'd look pretty daft standing there after that! If they want it moving they should announce the reg in store, or ticket it if it contravenes their rules!

I think some Aldi staff are funny people just got out of lockdown and went to Aldi up the road where I live me and hubby was standing near the freezer section talking and the lady on the shop floor wiped our masks off us and told us we are using the wrong way. I had been in the hospital and everyone was wearing the same way. When we asked what she was doing she said the nurse told her the mask was on the wrong way no it was not.

My old time favourite .
I wish to speak to the manager .
Employee *I AM the manager
hmm.where do you go from there ?

This reminds me of a time when I was asked by a supermarket staff to remove a child from the frozen peas. I said mine were teenagers and not with me. She insisted I went into the next isle with her and there was a parent of a child I taught distraught because her child had climbed into the frozen foods. She wanted me to make them come out if only the assistant had said Mrs .... wants you. The outcome was I said their name very sternly and GET OUT NOW which they did. I got presented with a chocolate cake at work the next day. The mum was lovely and fraught with a new baby.grin

I understand that Aldi has apologised to the gentleman concerned but what have they done about the employee? Seems that some customer care training is urgently needed. Apparently the man was harangued by the staff member for about 15 minutes in the store. Why on earth she could not understand or accept that the car did not belong to him beggars belief.

And it reminds me of the days when I did a bit of running and was accosted by an elderly man telling me to move my car. I'd just run past one, but it wasn't mine. I got chapter and verse of why I shouldn't park there, then when I insisted it wasn't my car I got the same question posed to this poor man - "Well whose is it then?". grin

greenlady102 Wed 24-Nov-21 15:20:21

I had exactly the same thing (well whose is it then) when nasty neighbour came banging on my door complaining that I had left my dogs home alone (I hadn't) and they were barking (they weren't). Idiots seem to think its a crushing argument!

Oldnproud Wed 24-Nov-21 15:34:26

A friend and I also had something similar happen once, when we were about 11.

We had just come out of the newsagents with some sweets, and sat down on a bench in front of the shop's large stone window ledge to eat one or two.
An elderly gentleman came up and angrily told us to pick up 'our' pop bottle from under the bench and put it in the bin, then started lecturing us on littering - something that we had been brought up never to do.

We said , truthfully, that it wasn't our bottle - we didn't even know it was there until that moment - but he insisted that he had actually seen us put it there and that we were lying, and carried on haranguing us until we left.

Mallin re packing your bags.
I’ve just restarted shop work post Covid and when I took a customer bag to pack it the manager sent me off to wash my hands. He said the company didn’t want us touching customer’s bags for our own safety.
I said I would continue to do so if it was appropriate and wash my hands after. Which I do. Perhaps younger staff who don’t know “the old ways” would think it forbidden and not use common sense.

This reminds me of a time when I was asked by a supermarket staff to remove a child from the frozen peas.
That is so funny ?
