Your best ever bargain.

Like you, a jacket. We visited the Gretna Shopping Village on an organised tour and were given £40 vouchers.

I went in a shop which had on sale - a weatherproof walking jacket - original price £150, £80 in the sale, £40 with my voucher.

That was easily 10 years ago and it is my go-to jacket for any walk. It has a thick fleece as a removable lining and I wear both fleece and outer jacket on their own and in the depths of winter I wear the two together. Three jackets for a fraction of the price for for 1

Some 30 years ago I bought a long-sleeved off-white winter dress for 99p in a shop that sold 'seconds' (not second-hand). I wore it to school when I was teaching and was asked how I could wear something that colour in the classroom. My response was that, if they knew what I'd paid for it, they'd understand. It got plenty of wear!

Last week I bought a pair of pink gingham curtains 100 inch wide and 94 drop so big enough for my freezing french windows and blanket and blackout lined for £35 ! They have made such a difference to the warmth in the room.

Got a great Christmas present bargain just this week: looking for a silver charm to go on GD's silver bracelet and saw the perfect one at that famous high street jewellery store that specialises in charm bracelets. I was told that if I registered to go on their mailing list I'd get an extra 10% off their Black Friday deals. But when I went back to buy it, the price had been put up by £5! I was so cross that I immediately unsubscribed from their mailing list. I had a look on EBay and there was the exact charm, brand new, in a box and being sold by a charity. I was the winning bin at less than half the original price, the charity got the benefit of my money and I'll never believe the Black Friday "bargains" hype again.

Not sure if this is a actually a bargain but I had a big order delivered from a well known store. However somehow they duplicated it. I contacted them to ask how we should sort this out and they emailed back saying keep it!

My husband. We were able to take earlier retirement before we got our state pensions thanks to his lump sum of a private pension which we divvied up and lived off for five years.
All spent now of course and we live solely on our state pensions but it’s been wonderful.

I paid £1 for an electric blender at a charity coffee morning about 5 years ago. That got me back into making soup again.

I am very fond of leather handbags and know what I like,I was browsing in a charity shop and saw a large Radley bag at £4.00 which I was delighted with also in the same shop I bought a Denby casserole dish with the lid for £2.00 obviously the person who did the pricing did not know how to do the pricing so I ended up giving more than the asking prices they have both served me well for many years

One evening I saw 4 figs in Tescos reduced to 10p. They are still unripe - stuck them on the windowsill to ripen. They were delicious.

I can't think of anything! I have a friend who always gets fantastic bargains in shoes and clothes. I never do. ☹️

Most recently, a small glass jug for £1. It pours beautifully. I bought it because I take only a drop of milk in tea, and with a big canister, I struggle to pour such a small amount. The jug is perfect.

Many years ago, Tesco had an odd reduction on strawberries. They ended up costing me about 2p per punnet. They had hundreds of boxes, so I bought a load and made jam.

WAS a bargain, but the pleasure of PYO wasn't there.

If I’d had to pay a man to do all the jobs he’s done, when I wanted them done and to my standard, in almost 40 years, I’d be working into my 70s or in debt forever!

The bargain shopping I’ve done in that time pales into insignificance compared to his weight in gold!

Each and every one of my lovely rescue dogs and cats, who became such wonderful family pets in return for a donation to the relevant charity. Priceless.

Reading Urms post. DH is my best bargain. He is a consummate maker and doer and thanks to his skill at DIY, as we have moved from renovation project to renovation project we finally have the house of our dreams - a really old Listed farmhouse, which we couldn't have afforded to buy, let alone restore were it not for his skills.

A few weeks ago I had an appointment at Specs savers and was early so decided to look around a charity shop and I saw this quite smart black coat, size medium, per una, £10!! Fitted perfectly, absolute bargain

Like others, a DH who can turn an old piece of furniture into a lovely unique painted piece. Many of which were free that we picked up on Freecycle sites. Also, a LandsEnd storm coat that would have cost over £150 new and I bought a new one off eBay for £10 with label inside.

The couch I’m currently sitting on. A chum of my late brother bought it, kept it for a week, decided she didn’t like it. I got a £1,500 three piece suite for £150. That was nearly 30 years ago and it’s still in good condition and I still love it.
I have browsed furniture stores and online several times over the last few years, never seen any that I like enough to pay the price asked.

An electric food steamer 99p from ebay it was new in box ,has been in regular use for about 5 years.

Just remembered another supermarket sweep. It was a few days after Christmas and we'd been eaten out of house & home.
Popped into Sainsbury's and there was smoked salmon marked down so I picked up 4 packs. When I got home I pondered why the shop was less than I'd expected - only to find, the salmon was at the reduced price but then their system had applied the original discount to buy 2 aswell. Meaning that, they were paying me to take the salmon away!
