How old were you when you first became a grandparent ?

I have a friend who was only 34 which is very, very young. I was 45 which I still thought was pretty young. I have some friends who have not become grandparents until they were in their 70s, thought it would never happen and are absolutely over the moon. Our youngest grandchild is only 3 and she insists on calling her older cousins aunties and uncles, rather cute.

I was 50 when my now almost 13 year old GD was born. She is the love of my life! Followed by 2 GSs, one now nearly 10 and one now nearly 8.
We are now expecting 2 more GCs: a 4th from our daughter and SiL and a 1st from our son and DiL.
I am wondering how different being grandparent to a newborn will be at age 63 vs. at 50!

I was 63 so compared to some of you quite late. My DD and DSiL had said they wouldn't have a child and DH and I were fine with that. Then when they had been married 10 years my darling GD arrived, she is now 2. She will be my only grandchild and very precious ?.

I was 58 and DH 59 when the first of our four DGC was born. Three more followed in quick succession - 2 each to DS and DD and they have been the greatest joy and filled our lives with love and pleasure.

I was so desperate to have grandchildren that I said whichever child had the first one would inherit all my money (joking!) DD looked at me quizzically then said "Well, how much is that?" Must have been enough because she was first to produce!

We moved 300 miles south from Yorkshire to be near them and that has been a huge success in being able to be part of their lives growing up. Very proud grandparents here!

I was sixty when my twin granddaughters were born.

I was 51 when my first DGD was born. If all goes according to plan, I will still be 81 when my first GGC arrives in June. My DS1 will be 51 when his first GC is born!

My daughter was only 40 when she became a grandma, lots of energy and lots of people actually thought he was her baby . One of my other daughters has 2 grandchildren , the first when she was 43.

Still waiting at 65 sad

Neither DS and DiL, or DD and fiance want children. Their choice of course, and we have never said anything, but I would have loved to be a Nanna.

My Mum was 51 when my DS was born, and 55 when my DD arrived. She ( and my Dad) loved them to bits, and they had so much fun with her. I was looking forward to the same, but it's not going to happen.

Those of you who have grandchildren are very lucky. Enjoy every minute with them.

Take care xx

I was 69 when my DGS arrived and 72 when my DGD arrived. I wished they'd come sooner when I had more energy, but I'm delighted to have them.
