Imagine that we have a new sparkly GN jukebox......free of charge, what records to choose and why? Do you just love a certain old record or does it bring back lovely memories?tchsmile

Yes kitty. Happy memories indeed. A romantic interlude from my past.

Let's Get it On by Marvin Gaye. Love that song and anything else by him.

Calistemon Sun 12-Dec-21 11:09:48

Leaving on a Jet Plane
Annie's Song
Take me Home Country Roads

The late, lamented John Denver

lemongrove Sun 12-Dec-21 12:53:38

The jukebox has some smoke spiralling from out the back, it hasn’t been used as much for years!?
Fortunately a GNHQ engineer is on hand for repairs.

I’ve just put three records on:
Hey Jude
Nights In White Satin
Ernie ( Benny Hill)
An eclectic mix I think you’ll agree.

I'm not usually a fan of country music, but this is a good one.

Wake me up before you Go-go
Last Christmas
(Wham)

Eternal Flame

Time for a sit down next to the GN jukebox with a cafe
Hmmm, what to choose?

Thinking of a certain friend who will have this song played at her funeral ( not that she’s dead as yet )?
White Christmas by Bing Crosby ( no need to thank me nanasam) ?

nanasam Thu 16-Dec-21 12:53:39

lemon, call yourself a friend??!!!!

I'm taking that awful song with me so it'll never be heard again. I can't stay in a room if it's played and now you've put the song in my head confused

That was to MeeylStreep

I'm sure no-one else wants to listen to songs from the 1930s and 40s, Al Martino, Perry Como etc.

I love songs from the 30’ & 40’s Calistemon

Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Fats Domino etc .

I am a girl from the 60’s having been in the Small Faces fan club. Also I cannot listen to Waterloo sunset by the Kinks without wanting to cry. My first boyfriend bought me that record, we split up and he married someone else. He was lovely but we were both too young.

lemongrove Thu 16-Dec-21 15:11:36

Ah, memories! Songs and pieces of music are so evocative of a certain time and place aren’t they?

My next record is Stranger On The Shore by Acker Bilk, I used to have his autograph ( do people still have autograph books?)
A lovely and rather melancholy piece. It’s given me the idea of buying a cd of his music now.

You are very brave posting ‘Young Girl’ as it is not considered at all PC nowadays.

I’m with you though, great song, not perceived at all sleazy back in the late 60’s when it was a hit.

AGAA4 Fri 17-Dec-21 11:16:14

I loved the song and didn't think of it in the way it seems to be perceived now.

I was brought up on them, Anniebach!
And the rather daft songs like You're a Pink Toothbrush by Max Bygraves grin
Nellie the Elephant by Mandy Miller
Does Your Chewing Gum Lose its Flavour by Lonnie Donegan

Then along came Bill Hailey, Elvis Presley

Anniebach Fri 17-Dec-21 11:34:40

You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling followed by Unchained Melody, then Anyone Who Has A Heart.....a melancholy few records to listen to as I sip a large sherry.
