Is someone ‘hitting/not hitting’ on your partner respectful?

I have seen a clip advertising the Royal Variety Performance 2021, Alan Carr made a joke regarding Kate. The camera does show them laughing but I don’t think it is very respectful towards our future King’s wife. Just because they are a relaxed couple they shouldn’t be taken avantage of.

The joke was about himself not Kate.

I thought 'hitting on' meant flirting with.

If you're someone like Alan Carr I guess you can get away with it because being a funny man is part of the act. What happens though if the next person copies this behaviour and you get someone like say Aidan Turner (Poldark) trying on the same thing to Kate? It's a slippery slope.

Hitting on is flirting with, from what I know.
Stars have always taken the micky out of the royals.

The queen reportedly loved Spitting Image.

I don't suppose Carr's husband minds too much and I'm sure they all have a great sense of humour (unlike some).

I often wonder what the Royals say when they get home about some of the celebrities they have met that evening!

Calistemon Mon 13-Dec-21 20:55:58

I'm not sure that Alan Carr would be hitting on Kate.

If he was rude, that's his knighthood down the Swanee!

Is Alan Carr gay? I didn't think so.

Alan Carr married Paul Drayton in 2018. Are you getting him confused to Jimmy Carr?

kittylester Tue 14-Dec-21 07:25:12

Yep, I am!!! Well, it's early!! blush

JaneJudge Tue 14-Dec-21 07:28:42

grin at getting them mixed up!

She should be so lucky tchhmm.

kittylester Tue 14-Dec-21 09:11:08

I'd rather him than either Alan or Jimmy Carr and I'm fairly sure he isn't gay!

Josianne Tue 14-Dec-21 09:39:51

I think Wills left Kate at home on this occasion, just in case!

Calistemon Tue 14-Dec-21 09:41:24

Alan Carr is very funny.

I really can't bear Jimmy Carr.

Calistemon Tue 14-Dec-21 09:43:34

Have we established if it was Alan or Jimmy at the Royal Variety Performance?

Josianne Tue 14-Dec-21 09:44:51

Alan

I can't bear either of them.

?

kittylester Tue 14-Dec-21 09:53:47

I like Alan Carr and used to disliked Jimmy Carr though I have found him more likeable lately.

henetha Tue 14-Dec-21 10:08:15

I've never liked Jimmy Carr, but have to admit he is clever with his one liners. Sometimes cruel, but funny. I laugh in spite of trying not to.
Alan Carr is much more likeable. Sort of cuddly.

From 2015 when Harry was the butt of a whole series of jokes from Jack Whitehall. (And he was all alone)

The end bit about who he could choose as a girlfriend is funnier in retrospect.

Doodledog Tue 14-Dec-21 10:34:10

This thread is hilariously incomprehensible grin.

I have no idea what you are all talking about, but it's all very funny. I agree with Calistemon that it is highly unlikely that Alan Carr would 'hit on' Kate, though.

Josianne Tue 14-Dec-21 10:36:05

That is so funny trisher, good on Harry!
