Do your Feet Shrink as you get Older??

My feet are the same size they were when they finished growing in my teens. However, I sometimes buy a size larger now so that I can wear thick socks but still wiggle my toes. I also only wear flat, foot-shaped shoes like Birkenstocks "Gary" style or a make I came across this year called "Groundies".

Mine have got longer. I have always had a very narrow foot and they are really long and narrow now. I think they are 7 in the uk, not sure. They are 9 here.

Mine have "relaxed" too, I imposed to take a 5, now a 6.

Mine have stretched. I used to take size 5 when I was a young woman. Now I'm only comfortable in 7 (or six and a half sometimes).

I used to be a size 4, Fanny, when I was svelte and slim. Unfortunately, due old age, rounded stature and a multitude of stress fractures in my feet, I am now a tight size 5!

Mine are still the same size 8, flat feet, very weird toes but I am thankful for them as they do enable me to walk,otherwise not too happy with them and I never ever ever wear sandals. I remember when my kids were small my son was about six and he said mummy you have got witches feet! Thanks for that son.

Everyone should get their feet measured, as they may change in size over the years. People often wear the wrong size, usually too small. Mine increased from a 5 to 6 and became even wider. I think, like TillyTrotter, they've spread.

Men's shoes always fit me - as it's only women who are expected to have dainty little feet. FannyCornforth, my wrists and ankles are very small - with big, wide hands and feet - very fetching!

Funnily enough, in an Oxfam ‘Superstore’ near a dd’s house, I found a pair of ‘different’, unusually styled brown leather lace-ups, in a sort of very short boot style. They were shelved with the women’s shoes, looked brand new, and although they were a size 6 - I usually take a 7 now - I tried them on anyway.
They fitted fine and were extremely comfortable.

Once home I looked up the brand - which I’d never heard of - and realised that they were actually men’s shoes!
I’ve worn them loads for walking and traipsing round the shops, etc., and they’re still blissfully comfortable.

My feet went up from 3.5 to 4 in my 20s. They went to 4.5 in my 50s after weight gain but down to 4 again when I lose weight. They are still narrower than average. I feel that average shoes have got wider in recent years (the same as clothes sizes getting more generous). Most sensible shoes I can walk in are wide.

Yes, my feet have got smaller and I am not so tall as I was but my weight has increased.

I'm still the same. When Eurosizing came in, some companies didn't use the same sizing. Size 8 can be either 40 or 41. Size 9 42 or 43.

I take a 9 and only a 43 will fit me. I'm occasionally brought out (when I used to shop for shoes) a 42.

I don't remember having problems buying shoes when I was younger but now I find lots of shoes much too tight in both directions - except Hotter. I measured my feet as they recommended and lo and behold the 5 1/2 fitted fine.

Someone told me once that cheaper shoes, like clothes, are nearly all made in Asia where the standard is shorter people with tiny, narrow feet and who knows what Western sizes they use. But I don't know how true that is of course. I just buy whatever size fits me best these days.

I don’t wish to contradict you, (I’m fact I don’t think that I am) but I do know that my feet are narrow with ridiculously high insteps.
Maybe I’m buying shoes that have a wide fit factored in?

They haven't grown, but one has always been larger and wider than the other - and that has got wider, while the other has stayed unchanged. Getting shoes that are comfortable for walking any distance, other than trainers, is really difficult.

Mine have spread and flattened - sort of like a pair of flippers now.

I’ve always had narrow feet and often went down a size to compensate. I often wore 5 or 4½ but when I visited a narrow fit shoe shop I found that I was actually 5½A. Problem is only AA or B is made, not A ?. So I try on, can’t order online and it’s fairly pointless to visit high street shoe shops. I travel to Peebles to buy shoes which are ridiculous prices but foot comfort is my no 1 priority. I recently had my feet re-measured because I thought they had put on weight ?. They were the same size. So I have slim feet - wish the rest of me matched! ? I’m now waiting for my new boots to arrive - they didn’t have the black that I wanted in stock.

Mine haven't shrunk and neither have other parts of my body that I'd be rather pleased about if they did.

I was told by a chiropodist that they spread.
All of the tendons lose elasticity, and as a result your feet need more space in shoes.
