A new twist on life in France!

Owners of small underwear shops are sending lingerie items to the French PM in protest against their shops remaining closed as they are considered "non essential" in this period of partial confinement.

Other news on the underwear front - a survey of 3000 women found that in 2020 after the first lockdown, 1 in 6 under 25 year olds said they never wear a bra. According to manufacturers women are moving away from the underwired, push up bras in favour of comfort.

I definitely find underwear essential grin

I suppose if you are under 25 and not that large in the mammary department then you might not accidentally take out a small elderly gentleman by the side of you bending over for a lettuce.

Don't think we are in partial confinement Dinahmo?
This was back in April.

Me too.

Good news about the bras! Horrible uncomfortable things. Wish I was under 25!

BlueSky Wed 15-Dec-21 21:24:22

I do not think many of us bothered with bras during lockdown, under or over 25! And when we do wear them, comfort every time! Push up bras? Are they still around?

Josianne Wed 15-Dec-21 21:30:11

What strikes me about bras and knickers in France, even those sold in supermarkets, is that they mainly come in matching sets. Do French women really team their knickers with their bras on a daily basis?

Mollygo Wed 15-Dec-21 21:41:43

I find underwear essential for my comfort, but there were several posts on GN from members who had abandoned bras during lockdown-those 25 year olds are behind the times.?

Blossoming Wed 15-Dec-21 22:03:18

I always wear a well fitting bra and don’t find them uncomfortable. Also, I don’t want to take someone’s eye out if I turn round suddenly grin

Slightly embarrassed to admit that my bra and knickers are always matching colours .

Ooh la! la! Blossoming very French ... apparently much admired by French males to be so chic. Good for you lass. I do remember the days I used to buy a pretty bra with 2 pairs of matching lacy knickers. So I always had ‘a set’ on.

Mamie You're right. I was following a link in a report today to the article about the underwear and didn't notice the date. Silly me. The article about the bras was in today's paper.

I'm rather large so haven't worn a bra for a couple of years because they're so expensive.

Mine are always matching colours because I always wear black! grin

Shinamae Wed 15-Dec-21 22:31:30

I am pretty flat chested and don’t even need to wear a bra but I do sometimes just to give me a bit of shape otherwise I could quite easily be confused for a man as I have no hips and quite a big tummy ?‍♀️

nadateturbe Wed 15-Dec-21 22:57:58

Mine match what I'm wearing on top. Makes more sense to me. Can't wear a dark bra with a light coloured top.
I would find it painful at times not to wear a bra.

I like the pull over the head soft bralettes, Primark sell matching.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 16-Dec-21 07:29:12

If I didn’t wear a well fitting bra I would end up with bruised knees! As I wear black underwear, sometimes with colourful embroidery, mine always match, I couldn’t wear, say, black knickers and a green bra.

Josianne Thu 16-Dec-21 07:32:04

I'm guessing the bra was one invention that wasn't invented by a man!

Didn’t Howard Hughes develop a bra for a well endowed actress whose name I’ve forgotten?

Josianne Thu 16-Dec-21 07:55:45

Wow, even back to 1300s Greece they rigged up some form of bra!

Grandmagrim Thu 16-Dec-21 08:17:06

Years ago when the Balcony bra was the fashion my daughter (16 at the time) quipped that I didn’t need a balcony I needed a whole blooming veranda ! Anything other than full scaffolding and I start to get eczema under my bra line. I won’t be ditching mine any time soon I’m afraid.

Did you know the French expression “il y a du monde au balcon” ?
(The balcony is full/there’s a lot of people on the balcony)

Means you’re well endowed.
