Thank you- all I said was I didn’t like the frilly blouse, but liked the rest of the outfit , hardly being nasty, just my personal opinion, which is of no consequence to this lady personally, she obviously liked it so good on her.

Very surprised that a young man who is so vocal about BLM issues was happy to accept an EMPIRE medal....maybe nobody told him the Empires role in slavery etc .I would have much more respect for him if he'd told them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine....principles? not when money or titles are involved .Gone down in my estimation .

Interesting point paddyann54,but personally I take the opposite view. By accepting a knighthood he is a success role model for black kids (F1 was a very white world when he started), and ordinary kids (F1 is a very affluent world). He is exceedingly well-mannered, appreciative and charming, so probably a role model to us all.
Btw I think he pays tax in 20 countries and one of the top 5000 tax payers in UK

We'll have to agree to differ Josianne. I think criticising his mother's outfit is unkind and unnecessary, but you and some others obviously think she's fair game.

If you posted a photo on here of you with one of your children who was receiving an award and said how proud you were and here's us on our big day, and posters started saying 'not sure about your outfit' 'I wouldn't have chosen that frilly collar' etc would you not be hurt and annoyed?

Actually No,*Beswitched*, if I liked my outfit that's all that matters. I've overhead comments (of both kinds) about my hair, clothes at functions before with no problem because I wasn't the one who was important at the time. If you're in the public's eye it comes with the territory.

vegansrock I agree that in Chat a chat about someone's outfit is just chatting. I've seen far worse comments about Mme Macron, Jill Biden or Matt Hancock's wife's clothes on political threads on GN.

Can he not just accept an honour/ high accolade from hisQueen and country for bringing his home Nation to the forefront on a world stage. For being the best. Without it being Black he is also White. He lives in Monaco because it favours his huge wealth and I would too, as Understood he does untold good also. I for one begrudge him nothing and wish him well.

Perfectly valid views Fanny. In the exceedingly unlikely event that I were invited to an investiture I think I would opt either for a proper 'matching' trouser suit or a dress and matching coat or jacket rather than something that might, however expensive, pass for smart casual. Obviously money is no object if it was all Chanel and Dior. There, I've broken my rule about not saying anything ...

She should be very proud of all his work for human and animal rights. I don't really care about her outfit.

Well done Lewis. I haven't always been a big fan, but there is no doubt he is an incredibly talented driver. I felt very sorry for him after this weekend's fiasco grand prix.

Maybe the folks criticising her outfit would like to put up a pic of themselves in a smart outfit, so we can compare?

I wasn’t “having a pop at her” I was just commenting on which part of her outfit I liked / didn’t like - my non -important opinion which I’m sure wouldn’t bother her a jot. - She looks a really proud mum and I am so pleased for them both , I thought it really nice to see that he’d taken his mum. I put this in chat - I’m sure a chat about people’s outfits isn’t being nasty - I liked the jacket/ trousers combo- I’m sure she liked the blouse as she looked very happy in the pic. I’m glad he got the knighthood- well deserved and I hope he enjoys it

I was disappointed he didn’t wear a tie and I won’t comment on his mother’s outfit on the basis of saying nothing if you can’t say something nice.

She looks lovely. Both look proud. Rare to see mum, it’s usually his dad so good for him taking her.

I’m sure his mum is rightly proud of him, but I must say it irks me that anyone very rich, who is greedy enough to choose to live abroad in order to avoid UK tax, should be awarded any kind of honour.
