I’m definitely going bonkers - or pre-senile?!

I forgot to put the eggs in the Christmas cake one year and didn't realise until it was far too late.

To be honest, you couldn't tell and it tasted fine.

I went to put dirty plates and mugs into the fridge yesterday and stared at the milk, wondering why it was in the dishwasher

I wouldn’t worry Witzend I remembered to buy a couple of large oranges to zest and add to my mince pie pastry, the pies came out lovely except the zest was still in the container despite me having it right beside the pastry board as I was making the pastry. We’ve all done it.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you Witzend it happens to us all grin as DanniRae said, at this time of year plus the virus to contend with. I've done daft things myself grin

I have done similar, forgot to put eggs in a cake once. Usually it is because you have too much going on at the same time I think.

No you are not going crazy - we all have so much on our minds this time of year and then there's all the extra worry about the new virus!
Don't give it another thought. I am very impressed that you make your own Christmas Pudding and Mincemeat tchsmile

Yesterday, to use up some leftover dried fruit from ?puds and mincemeat, I thought I’d make a barm brack. (A sort of tea bread.)

So having looked up the recipe - I hardly ever make it - I put the fruit and sugar to soak overnight in cold tea.

This morning I carefully cut out a piece of greaseproof paper for the bottom of the loaf tin.

I then greased the loaf tin and poured the mixture in - having forgotten to line the bottom or add the egg!

So I emptied and washed the loaf tin, re greased it, added the bottom lining and tipped the mixture in - having forgotten again to add the egg!

It is now finally in the oven.
The crumb of comfort I’m clinging to, is that having needed to look at the recipe again this morning, I did remember that it was on page 62. Is there still hope?
