What evening meal do you have for Christmas eve.

MissAdventure Fri 24-Dec-21 15:19:52

I've just had s jacket pot with cheese, coleslaw, tomatoes and a bit of lettuce.
Not very adventurous, but it was lovely.

I’m cooking baked cod with dauphinois potatoes, really looking forward to it. Our son is joining us

Lobster pasta dish with steamed samphire in butter and garlic bread. Followed by lemon tart and cream.
I just have Christmas Eve with DS who then goes to his father on the day and they have lunch with DS’s girlfriend and parents whilst I go to DD and family.

Always a Chinese takeaway on Christmas Eve, it's become a family tradition!

Pea soup tonight and Ham tomorrow. We had Christmas Dinner on Tuesday as my son is at work all the Christmas holidays so we had it earlier so he wouldn't miss out.

Costco Chicken Bakes. Quick, easy, delicious and filling. A real treat as we have been cooking from scratch with low carb/sugars and low fat all year which these definitely aren't!

We’re having duck, with satay noodles.
Relatively easy to cook and one of our favourites.

Some lovely meals on this thread, yum … hope everyone has a lovely evening. ⭐️

Anything I don’t have to cook myself.

Probably a takeaway.

Shandy57 Fri 24-Dec-21 13:59:36

In the past we used to have something quick and easy so the kitchen was clean on Christmas morning. Now it's just me, nothing special planned.

My son can't come tomorrow for our beach picnic/meeting as his car is still in the garage - he's just phoned and coming this afternoon, borrowing his girlfriend's car, she is working tomorrow.

My DH and I are having fish cakes scampi asparagus and hollandaise sauce ! With chips of course
Like a lighter meal considering having big xmas dinner next day ?

Just wondered if I’m the only person who cannot eat nibbles and tasters!
They ruin my appetite for a main meal
Can’t even manage a starter ?
I DO enjoy food believe or not

This year its just me and my husband, so we are having a lovely fillet steak chips, salad and a VERY expensive bottle of Burgundy. Perfect.

She777 Fri 24-Dec-21 13:54:40

I'm in my own until my sister comes in the morning so I have a "Bitsa"dinner. A platter of bits and pieces like chicken bites, sweet potato fries, dips, cheese, etc. Oh and Apple Strudel ice cream for pudding and there's a pavlova in the oven at present for tomorrow.

Metra Fri 24-Dec-21 13:36:55

Cheese fondue with forfeits if anyone drops a piece of bread into the fondue.

Grantanow that is similar to maws. It’s the red cabbage that does it fir me. Goes so well with venison.

A half rack of venison roasted with Parmentier potatoes and red cabbage plus a red fruit trifle and bottle of Rhone red wine. Mixed nibbles beforehand.

Joesoap Fri 24-Dec-21 13:15:37

Where we live in the frozen North, Christmas Eve is celebrated instead of Christmas Day, they begin with all sorts of herrings, then meatballs and cocktail sausages potatoes, then a cold rice pudding with cream in it and small slices of mandarines, this is my favourite part.To this its Christmas beer or wine and mulled wine.
On Christmas Day we have a real Christmas Dinner with Turkey, the works. Christmas crackers etc ( which they dont have here) Christmas Pudding and home made trifle of course, its much beter then Christmas Eve, excuse me I must tuck into the pickled herrings!

Nannan2 Fri 24-Dec-21 13:13:15

Treetops- make the menfolk cook then, or you order yourself a takeaway, and let them make their own meal!?

Nannan2 Fri 24-Dec-21 13:11:23

Whatever we want, sometimes takeaway but if theres loads of extra food in to be had by certain dates ill cook.

cc Fri 24-Dec-21 13:11:06

We usually have a big gammon joint but we plan to go out this year if our small grandchildren are up to it!

Harris27 Fri 24-Dec-21 13:05:37

Picky tea mostly party food and cheese and biscuits all laid out nice ready for our night in front of the telly!

Treetops05 Fri 24-Dec-21 12:58:09

We usually have either a takeaway, generally a Chinese or we cook a normal tea and have lovely nibbles at 9ish. Sadly, now I am outnumbered by the menfolk I have been outbid, so no takeaway or nibbles...feeling quite tearful and not at all festive ?

Christmas was terrible when I was a kid and I try to make sure ours are different and enjoyable, but since my daughter moved out I am constantly outvoted on fun stuff

MissAdventure Fri 24-Dec-21 12:55:22

I wondered where that comment had gone.
Wrong thread!
