......that I quite like cranberry sauce. I'm only 72 and have avoided it up till now!

Juliet27 Tue 28-Dec-21 07:36:31

? for you NikonLady and I’ve private messaged you

Juliet27 Tue 28-Dec-21 07:09:58

That I have a much better night’s sleep if I don’t drink wine in the evening.

Coolgran65 Tue 28-Dec-21 05:59:00

I learned to just let DH get on with it. I asked him to slice up a melon. He said he’d never done that before so I told him…. Cut it in half, scoop out the seeds and slice it. He cut it in half, scooped out the seeds ok and proceeded to ‘slice’ it with a pair of large scissors. After much hilarity I left him to it and we had rustic melon chunks on the buffet table. grin.

That it is possible to enjoy Christmas without alcohol and it’s someone else’s turn to host next year.

crazyH Tue 28-Dec-21 03:15:30

…..that there are other people worse off than me. So stop worrying and try to get some sleep (it’s past 3a.m. and I just can’t get to sleep )….

that even though I have been alone for the last 12 Christmas holidays, it does not get any easier and I still don’t like it. Thank goodness I have my dog to keep my company, but still it’s not like having family, which I have none. Just not meant to be I guess, but darn it’s difficult.

I am AB and along with A we are very well suited to them [peanuts], in fact 'highly beneficial' although they suggest peanut butter is better.

I learnt this, just now, from this thread. I'm happy about that as I am group A and eat peanut butter a lot.

FarNorth Tue 28-Dec-21 02:38:12

I learnt that I quite like a bit of pink gin in my coffee. winebrew

Thank you V3ra!

They're not as old as the blackcurrants and I'd eat those ?

V3ra Mon 27-Dec-21 22:33:28

Calistemon my half a bag in the freezer says "best before April 2019," and I'd use them, so I'm probably not the best person to ask ?

Calistemon Mon 27-Dec-21 21:04:44

V3ra

^That I don't like cranberry sauce from a jar. Our local shops had run out of fresh cranberries by the time I shopped for them^.

Maggiemaybe frozen cranberries work just as well as fresh to make a sauce.

How long will they keep in the freezer? We still have a bag from last year!

Maggiemaybe Mon 27-Dec-21 21:03:14

That I can scoff a whole tin of Quality Street over two days. But really shouldn’t. envy

Calistemon Mon 27-Dec-21 20:59:59

That I don't need to make cake, pudding and mince pies myself.

Apparently they sell them in supermarkets.

Claretjan Mon 27-Dec-21 20:29:13

GagaJo

That I've gone off mince pies.

Me too Gagajo. Same with Christmas cake too and there's just me and DH to get through the one I made. He could be eating it until Easter!

karmalady Mon 27-Dec-21 19:27:05

I cooked my christmas meal on sunday and realised that I could do another plate and re-heat that in the microwave on monday, I think I might have learnt to do that more often in future. I normally cook fresh every day

I also learnt that, like Rosalyn, I will not be eating turkey next year

HowVeryDareYou Mon 27-Dec-21 19:18:34

Bailey's! I cannot leave it alone grin

........ that the whole concept of Christmas dinner doesnt have to result in a near nervous breakdown.

smilesmilesmilesmile

We put the remains of out turkey one year in the garage on top of the deep freeze. We also locked in the garage next door cat. We did not find him for 24 hours and his owner said he did not eat for days afterwards.

Forsythia Mon 27-Dec-21 13:51:33

That we bought too much food as usual for two people but it will last awhile anyway. We overdid it on presents to the kids as usual. Must cut back a bit next year.?

glammanana Mon 27-Dec-21 13:39:52

To not listen to "I don't like that meat" or "I am not a fan of smoked salmon & cheese" just put it on the plate and watch them eat it I can't be doing with fussy eaters anymore,I did 3 choices of starters for DD's ILs and they both pulled a face at everything offered they won't get the option again.

Mollygo Mon 27-Dec-21 13:19:10

That my Son-in-law likes to cook the nibbles for Boxing Day lunch. He said it was a thank you for us doing Christmas dinner.

Jaxjacky Mon 27-Dec-21 12:25:35

That I don’t need to buy so many nibbles as my son wasn’t here this year, he’s like a hoover!

Urmstongran Mon 27-Dec-21 11:25:27

To go with the flow (test).

Rosalyn69 Mon 27-Dec-21 11:02:31

That I no longer enjoy turkey. It’s gammon next year.

Lexisgranny Mon 27-Dec-21 10:51:21

That it is still a mystery to me why Christmas Hamper producers always add a Christmas Pudding as the gift is likely to be given on Christmas Day, when there is a fairly hefty chance that you have already bought one…..we still have some from last year, despite utilising many ‘using up your leftover CP recipes).

Conversely if you do not buy shortbread biscuits (which normally arrive as gifts in delightful tins), this year you will not receive any! (That I am becoming an ungrateful old bat).

That once grandchildren are through the ‘glued to their mobiles’ stage, they have actually morphed into quite delightful adults, who are good conversationalists and excellent company!
