Storing scarves

I seem to have dozens of scarves and they end up shoved into boxes at the top of the wardrobe. Have very little storage space generally. I suppose I could tip them out and fold them…..
Any suggestions?

How many scarves does one need?
I have four. Two cotton, one heavier for autumn and one woollen. ?‍♀️
Three pairs of gloves, one woollen, one leather and one used for walking the dog.

I have lots because they’re (usually) cheap / they ‘lift’ a top, or a dress / I “need” different colours for different outfits / they remind me of holiday places I bought some of them…….

Maybe I need to start a collection!

DH made me a couple of hangers for the back of cupboard door in my bedroom. Like a towel rail all hang out of sight but can see at a glance when I open the door

I hang my scarves through the handles of my wardrobes - that is the ones I currently wear, the rest are in a box.

Well done Kathy I plan a trip there very soon.

Well, I’ve just been to Dunelm and now have an assortment of boxes, baskets and hangers smile. Going to tackle the tights / leggings pile today too grin

I still have lots of scarves, even after doing a big declutter earlier this year, and donating lots to the charity shop.

They are stored ( rolled or folded) in storage boxes, grouped by colour, so I know which box to go to. I have another box for gloves, and one for hats ( the pull on type, either knitted or furry). The boxes are stored in the walk in wardrobe off our bedroom. ( This sounds very grand but it isn't really, just one of the pleasures of living in an old house with unusual spaces which we have adapted to our needs!).

I also have a wicker basket under the coat hooks in the hall, which we use as a catch-all for scarves/gloves etc when we come in, which is tidied regularly, with everything being returned to it's home box.

Take care xx

I think I may have more scarves than any of you! ☺ Many have been sourced from trips abroad over the years.

They are stored in two large Curver boxes, one of those over the door thingies with holes and some in random places about the house.
I have tried to cull, but just can't bring myself to do it.!
That scarf you got rid of, could have been the very match for the outfit you have on today! So many regrets.?

When I was working, I used to scour Pinterest, searching for A hundred ways to tie a scarf in the winter, I had a penchant for knitted dresses, boots (don't ask how many) and a matching scarf.

I have a chest with little drawers in the hall specifically for gloves and scarves.

All the silk and chiffon types go in there. Heavier ones have a drawer in a wardrobe.

One day when I was wearing indigo jeans and a navy and white Breton top, I saw a woman in exactly the same but with the addition of a small scarf. She looked smart and chic compared to me! I then started to collect a few to match my tops. I don't wear them around the house though, because they are a nuisance and get tangled in my spectacle chain and dangled in my craft, baking or washing up!

I just have the winter kind. Anything else reminds me of my batty elderly aunts hiding their crinkly necks. Why else would you wear a scarf in summer?

I have the same as you shysal. Bought in IKEA a few years ago - don't know if they are still in stock. I keep my gloves in baskets in the same hall cupboard.

There is no such thing as too many scarves ☺️

I have my very large collection in different places, thin floaty ones in a scarf holder and a tie rack, slightly thicker ones on hooks over the bedroom door, pashminas and outdoor scarves folded on a shelf, a few that I only wear with one item are on the hanger with the item and there a few favourites that I wear every day on hangers in the wardrobe.

Yammy

I roll mine and keep them in a set of chest of drawers with a pretty cardboard box for gloves and wooly hats, in the hall next to the coat wrack and swap them seasonaly. The out of season are put into a storage box in a spare bedroom.

Unfortunately we only have a tiny hall and no spare bedroom!

A drawer in the wardrobe for light scarves, a basket on the shelf above for thicker ones and a folded pile on a shelf for knitted snoods / throws/ thick scarves.
I love scarves; I even have some of the silk head squares we used to wear in the 1960s.

Bridgeit

I put them all on one or two hangers,
Easy to see & crease free .

Ah, you see I appear to have more than the average number - mine would definitely not fit on two hangersgrin

I have just acquired one of these over door hangers; all scarves rolled neatly, plus room for gloves etc. I can see at a glance what I've got.

Ooh, like the idea of that!

Kim19 Wed 29-Dec-21 16:12:55

I find my husband's tie rack ideal for scarves.

Oldbat1 Wed 29-Dec-21 16:02:31

I had many many scarves. I did a big edit and took the ones I never wore to the Oxfam shop.

TillyTrotter Wed 29-Dec-21 15:57:08

I bought a double row of over-the-door coat hooks with glass knobs and loop all the cotton and chiffon scarves I have over the hooks.
I tie each one as if I was going to put it over my head, but put each over a hook instead.

Shelflife Wed 29-Dec-21 15:56:02

Kathy , my scarf storage is just like yours in two boxes in top of wardrobe. Most scarves are crease free so I am happy with the boxes. I agree they take up space but at least I Know where to find them !
