Good morning all. Yesterday was a lovely day as we had two video calls from DGS2 who was in good spirits as he is now able to eat little and often. He also got a bottle of chocolate milk to see in the new year albeit a few hours early. A long walk on the cards today its a bit brighter with just a light drizzle. Thoughts with anyone suffering today.

Good morning. Late this morning as didn’t get to bed till 2am after a riotous evening. Actually just a very pleasant evening with DH and two of our oldest friends. Lovely dinner and lots of chat and reminiscing.
Nothing much planned for today, will just see how it goes
Sending my very best wishes to you all for a Happy New Year.

GS my thoughts are with you ?

harrigran Sat 01-Jan-22 10:25:01

Good morning from a sunny NE.
Saw the new year in with a glass of no alcohol fizz, busy day today so need a clear head.
Family will come for dinner, I hope they remember to bring the items I have asked for. I have been confined to barracks all week with no shopping done.

Good morning all from a dull northwest coast. Quiet night for me last night, just watched a dated film ‘The Planters Wife” and read my novel. Enjoyed it whilst the world blew up around me.
Some of the fireworks sound pretty terrifying and my hearing’s not great. Nice bonus is no hangover, but don’t drink now so that wouldn’t apply. I like to think of banging heads when I just have my usual post sleep head. Wish I could wake up refreshed…
Happy New Year to all and thoughts to grannysomerset

Good morning and Happy New Year everyone from a bright and sunny Northampton. I stayed up to see the New Year in, and as a result have slept in this morning.

Sad news yesterday; a phone call early evening telling me that my college best friend had died just before Christmas. I had been concerned, as there was no Christmas card from her this year, and had intended to phone next week. We met in our first year, shared a room in our second year, and have stayed in touch ever since with occasional visits and meet-ups. Her husband is of course distraught, they had been married 54 years, and had been boyfriend/girlfriend since they were 16. I didn't feel right the rest of the evening, and still feeling down this morning. I don't think I shall be able to attend her funeral much as I would like to, with it being a good distance away and a complicated train journey.

No plans for today other than read the newspapers, do the puzzle pages and perhaps find a film to watch this afternoon. Steak for dinner tonight, so not much prep to do.

Thinking of all with sadness and worries, especially Grannysomerset.

Happy New Year to one and all.
Spent yesterday evening watching several episodes of MAID, sipping Prosecco and munching a few chocolates.
We were almost asleep as the fireworks went off, then overslept this morning.
Hoping my dizzy head soon feels right again. I am wondering whether it is the blood pressure tablet that I am now on, but I don't like it. The oncologist that I saw on Friday, was useless.
Keeping GrannySomerset in my thoughts .
Have a good day one and all.

Grandmajean Sat 01-Jan-22 10:42:01

Grannysomerset have just read your sad news from yesterday and didn't want to leave without saying how sorry I am and wishing you strength in the days to come.

Good Morning and a Happy New Year to all. I’ll try and attach a photo which reflects my hopes rather than my feelings!

In bed before midnight last night but I did switch on the TV for the countdown so I sort of brought in the new year. I then didn’t sleep very well, hence my late post.

My thoughts are with GrannySomerset and everyone else who are feeling a bit vulnerable today.

I meant to say congratulations on your new job baubles, I hope you enjoy it!

Well done you Marydoll contacting our CMO, I did wonder about that.

Off now to get showered and dressed. I’ll try and make mass at midday and then I’m going to DD2 and family for lunch and an overnight stay, so I can totally relax which will be lovely.

Wishing everyone a better year and some happiness in 2022.???

Good morning everyone,
Happy New Year.
Sending best wishes to you all for 2022.

Good morning from a dull and damp Black Country

No real plans today, just making a Lasagne to take to DD's on Monday as we are having lunch there to celebrate Mums 92nd birthday.

My thoughts are with GrannySomerset at this very sad time. Sending love flowers

Wishing you all the best day possible

Happy New Year Mick & all your GoodMorningers, from a bright, mild Cambs.,
I hope 2022 is kind for us all, hope it's a healthy one too.

GrannySomerset Sat 01-Jan-22 10:52:12

Still trying to contact DH’s nursing home to see if there is any change but assume not or they would have contacted me. Shall go to see him later today after a new year drink with friends and neighbours. DS is coming tomorrow on his way back to London from Devon to see his dad, DD has not yet made contact but will have that option if she so wishes.

We all need a better year in 1922 so here’s hoping.

Good Morning All x. Happy New Year wine
Another mild day but not as bright and Springlike as it was yesterday. Quite warm in the night too without the need for any heating.

Phone-call from D last night to say her ex. had tested positive on a PCR so I won't be seeing any of the family for the next fortnight, which now means that the GGC still won't get their Christmas presents yet as they've not long come out of isolation with one of the children having been positive a couple of weeks ago. So the shambles of piled gifts remains.

D is waiting for her booster then some notification to prove that she's had her quota as she's hoping to go to New York in October for her friend's daughter's wedding. A long way off yet but she's going to book it.

I have an INR test coming up so have a feeling that I've got a second jab in store being as they're now done in surgeries. It suits me at this later date while we're still in the midst of the pandemic as it'll keep me going----providing it doesn't backfire grin

Some ironing after yesterday's washing which only needed 5 minutes in the tumbler after blowing on the line but I don't intend doing much else.

All was quiet last night leading up to midnight as I was watching Andre Rieu, then when midnight came a volley of fireworks came from nowhere, but saying that there were very few bangs just lots of swishing from the lovely spray ones. It could well have been in someone's garden nearby. The cats still ended up under my bed though.

After that display I was wide awake and up and down like a fiddlers elbow, 3am at one point. Never mind.

Thoughts to GrannySomerset x.

Sounds like most had a decent night without incident, though as usual I had a giggle at Marydoll's " happenings" but glad that all is well in that household.
A good time was had by all in Urms quarters by the sound of it.

Hope everyone has a good day and a restful one so let's hope that 2022 sees improvements in the health department and by the end of the year see the back of this pandemic and return to normal----well some kind of normal anyway.

Take care whatever you do and stay safe and well. xx

HAZBEEN Sat 01-Jan-22 10:58:23

Good morning and a Happy New Year everyone from a bright Surrey. Just a quick visit, I haven't read through the thread yet.
Hope GrannySomerset has some support at this difficult time.
Hugs and best wishes for all.

henetha Sat 01-Jan-22 11:03:00

Good morning and happy new year to all you lovely people on GN. I enjoyed the drone displays and fireworks on BBC1 last night.
I've had enough of the celebrations now and just want to get back to normal.
I was given 3 calendars and 3 diaries for Christmas, so I'll go and sort those out in a minute and start writing.

Wishing all you Gransnetters a Happy New Year and hoping it will be an improvement on the last one.

GrannyGravy13 I too had 13 people including ourselves on Thursday. This was all 3 of my children and their families with one lot staying overnight. Kept it fairly simple with 2 enormous cottage pies, savoy cabbage and nibbles in the evening but I was still absolutely knackered yesterday. I made one cottage pie with no seasoning in one of those Charlie Brigham pie dishes for the 8 month old which he demolished. ?His 3 year old sister ate next to nothing.

Rather concerned as DD2 realised she was getting mastitis again when she woke on Boxing Day. No GP appointments and 111 impossible to access. The next day she got a private GP appointment for the following day and he said it was bad enough that she may have to have it drained in hospital. A nightmare scenario as she wouldn’t be able to take the baby in with her and he is allergic to dairy and refuses the prescription alternative formula. She couldn’t even get her prescription till Wednesday. Luckily the antibiotics have now kicked in. Apparently private practioners are themselves being inundated as the NHS becomes increasingly difficult to access.

Thinking of all those with difficulties and illness. Special thoughts with GrannySomerset at the moment. ?

* A Happy and Bright New Year to Everyone*
I opened the door to let the new year in on the stroke of midnight 21/22 as sparkles from nearby fireworks lit up the sky.

Good morning Mick, good morning all, good morning 2022.
I do hope it’s a better year for all.
We stayed up to watch the fireworks across the bay in Holyhead Port, had a little smoothie dance in the sitting room and went off to bed to watch a film. Consequently I’ve only just got up.
My thoughts are with GrannySomerset, wishing you strength and peace.
BlueSapphire that is sad news, I wouldn’t think your friend would want you making such a difficult journey and would know that you’ll remember her with love in the safety of your own home.
Sorry to hear that your daughter is back in hospital Gingster, she’s having a tough time of it.
I do sincerely hope that this new year is a better one for all ?
??????

LauraNorderr Sat 01-Jan-22 11:58:15

Smoochie dance, a sign of the times when smoothie is better known than smoochie, these youngsters don’t know what they’re missing.

Grannmarie Sat 01-Jan-22 12:16:06

Happy New Year, Mick and all.
It's mild but very windy in North Lanarkshire, nearly blown away when I went to Mass this morning. A good turnout, alternate pews are tied up again for distancing. A few in our congregation are isolating with Covid or awaiting PCR results, the virus is very prevalent here.
I remembered all those on GN who need/ wish a wee prayer.??
We brought in the New Year at my sister's last night, 3 households, that's the current advice. Good night, good company.
We're planning a wee park walk today, New Year's resolution ??‍♀️?‍♂️?‍♀️
Thinking of those with worries, illness or sorrow, especially GrannySomerset, I'm glad that you can visit your DH today, and that your DS will soon be with you.flowers
I'm so glad that you finally got to see Dollie, Marydoll!
Hoping and praying that Ginster's and Glammananna 's daughters recover soon.
Let's hope that 2022 brings us all that we wish for.
