A rather LARGE mistake.

I had some decorating done a few months ago now and my GD and I have different ideas about “finishing off”.
She thinks all my pictures and mirrors are old fashioned and wants to bring me into the current century.
I have vetoed her idea for a large tv on the fireplace wall but reluctantly agreed to a black skeleton clock.
I ordered on line and it arrived this morning.

Oh dear!!
Why did I order without checking the measurements?

It is 45” by 45”

If St Pancras station need a new clock, look no further.
It would look ridiculous on the wall I bought it for but frankly the hassle of sending it back is beyond me.

It is too large for the conservatory and the dining room, still undecorated and presently unused seems the best bet.

Have you ever done similar?
Or are you sensible and check before ordering?

Calendargirl Fri 14-Jan-22 13:12:39

We have all done something similar, I’m sure.

Did your GD help choose the clock, and was aware of the measurements? I just wonder if you and she see things through different eyes, as large, statement clocks are quite the thing. Are you absolutely sure it is too big? Try looking at it through different eyes.

If you still feel it is no good for anywhere, get GD to help you send it back. No point in having it sitting around unused.

Hope it all works out for you both.

There's this new craze for extremely large Skeleton clocks. All my 3 children have them on their walls - hideous trend, I think , but then I'm an old fogey with old fashioned tastes ?

I’m doing up a 1930’s bungalow but thankfully my ‘why on earth didn’t I check the measurements’ mistake was a small one.

I ordered some grey stick on tiles to jazz up the dated ones in the kitchen by randomly sticking them here and there.

When I opened the package I realised they were stick on sheets of multiple tiny tiles. Trendy but useless for the kitchen.

I’m going to cover the conservatory window sills with them instead as at the moment they are stained a revolting ginger colour and I want somewhere for my potted plants.

I quite like skeleton clocks though probably not above the fireplace.

Much better than a TV though. ?

The clock was reduced at Oak Furniture land from somewhere around £139 to £69,99 so I will find a place for it.
We would have to get it collected, we don’t have transport and the box is enormous.
Better to keep it and learn my lesson I think.

Namsnanny Fri 14-Jan-22 13:57:24

Look at it this way, you wont have to squint to tell the time!grin

Farmor15 Fri 14-Jan-22 13:58:04

I did the opposite - needed a new basic kitchen clock. Saw one on Argos site and reserved it. When I collected it, found it was tiny - about 6 inch diameter. Looks a bit silly on wall but will do for now - cheap anyway.

Lol

Reminded me of this man who ordered bedside lamps from amazon

Will the sellers arange for it to be picked up for return? If not, Royal Mail will collect it and deliver it, if it is within their size/weight limits. They will pick it up from your house. You just have to put it back into its packaging, pay the postage (online) and book collection. www.royalmail.com/collection

I’ve got a huge one in my kitchen.
It stopped working after about a month!
I’ve had it for about ten years. Still like it though!
Will post a picture shortly

That is a brilliant system - we use it a lot. I'd check with Oak Furniture Land ann. I returned something to Made quite easily.

Get GD to sell for you on e-bay or similar.

Annsixty couriers will collect from you!
I had to return a power washer which conked out on me within the guarantee period and it was really easy.
In my case it was several months in but luckily I had been sent a replacement so could use the box for that. I assume you still have the packaging?
Go on line to the people you bought it from and they will send you a label to print off and you book your collection date. Job done.
Do not even think of trying to sell it on eBay- much more hassle and responsibility for packaging and sending.
Just get your money back. Internet purchases -even sales purchases are guaranteed to be refunded usually with a limited window (perhaps 2 weeks) so don’t delay.

Ha Ha a very timely post. My Tesco delivery has just arrived with my new 3 cup cafetière. 3 CUPS do not equal 3 mugs ! It’s shockingly small ?

Blossoming Fri 14-Jan-22 16:07:37

We have one in the garden shed.

lemongrove Fri 14-Jan-22 16:13:41

In or on the garden shed Bloss?

lemongrove Fri 14-Jan-22 16:14:51

Ann that’s a seriously large clock!

SpringyChicken Fri 14-Jan-22 16:18:29

It seems a waste of £69.99! And each time you look at it, you'll be reminded of your error.

I was going to say that there's no excuse for being late for anything now! ?

Annsixty couriers will collect from you!
Yes, they will, we had something go wrong under guarantee, not a huge item but too heavy and bulky to get to the PO or Hermes depot and it was collected without charge.

Can your DD help you to sort it?

Calistemon Fri 14-Jan-22 17:06:58

Sorry, your GD!

She'll know what to do. Just tell her it's not "you" ?

FannyCornforth Fri 14-Jan-22 17:17:09

Bloody hell Ann!
I’ve just read your post again and seen the dimensions!
Here is mine, yellow biro for scale.
Note that it’s not actually telling the time (apart from twice a day, as they say)

MerylStreep Fri 14-Jan-22 17:20:15

It’s like the scene from Spinal Tap, only in reverse. ?

When our ward needed a new reception desk it was ordered from Germany, clearly no carpenters in the South East. The hospital maintenance team came and measured up but between that stage and the desk arriving, centimeters had got muddled up with inches. Consequently when it arrived it was far too big for the space it was intended for. Cue the maintenance team again who had to rejig the desk in order for it to fit. A sizeable amount was thrown away. What a total waste of money. I wouldn't worry annsixty these were 'professionals'. grin

ElaineI Fri 14-Jan-22 17:24:52

Yes your GD should be able to sell it on eBay or Facebook if you can't send it back.

Daisymae Fri 14-Jan-22 17:30:32

Have got into a muddle today. Have family coming over the weekend so amended the basic weekly shop. However I didn't save the amendments ?. I did another last minute order today, delivery tonight, and popped several desserts into the trolley intending to keep one. I then noticed a countdown clock, I had 2 minutes to checkout. In a panic I just went for it! Awaiting delivery with 4 desserts plus who knows what else......confused
