Sad news SueDonim. I am sorry. Hope your foot is getting better Hellogirl1
Hello everyone. I am working all weekend so going to not do much today. Will make pizza dough and soup but that's it. And decluttering can stop til next week..
Will amble down to high street and window shop. And listen to Meatloaf. RIP

SueDonim Thu 20-Jan-22 23:10:24

Ouch, Hellogirl! That must have been a bit of a shock. Still, as my mum would say, better out than in. flowers

I attacked the mountains of paperwork today. We really don’t need bank statements from 2006 or instruction leaflets for items we no longer possess. I think I’ll have to find a company that disposes of confidential papers as there’s far too much to shred ourselves, plus the council doesn’t like taking shredded paper in the recycling. The dining room doesn’t look much tidier for now but we’re getting there.

I had my book group this morning, which was most enjoyable. We’re always pleased to see each other January and catch up on the news.

Sad news too, today, that my mum’s last cousin died yesterday. He’d had a stroke about two weeks ago but was hoping to go home yesterday. It seems that he developed pneumonia on Monday and died early on Weds morning. He was 96 and quite a character to almost the end. He had a good life so mum is philosophical about it, though it must be odd to know that you’re now the last person still able to remember so many people and events of your childhood.

I received a massive box of fruit jellies for Christmas, which I’ve opened. They’re in a bowl on the table so help yourselves! Xxx

Thanks for all your good wishes re my poorly foot. It`s still sore, but hobble-able now without so many ouches.
I`m sorry not to have sent good wishes to all who are poorly, but with my memory I worry about missing someone and upsetting them, so may I wish all who are poorly a swift recovery?

Grandmajean Thu 20-Jan-22 20:01:23

Love that poem too Gagagran Can still recite it. I remember loving the word
"casement" while not having a clue what it meant !

Urmstongran Thu 20-Jan-22 19:42:31

I’m a wuss. It’s cold out there tonight! You forget it can be.
Brr.
So we hunkered down. Wasn’t much in the cupboards or fridge so we just had cheese & biscuits. Hobson’s choice really. Himself offered to go over to the supermarket but that would’ve meant I’d to cook something. Nah.
#lazygrananditslateanyway

Kettle’s on, all locked up and I’m cosy.

Hello to all lovely friends in the kitchen this evening, there’s G&Ts all round if you fancy one and a few mini cheddars to munch on
Sebastian’s gets my vote urmston it sounds lovely
We’ve enjoyed our last day of walking here in south Devon, it was another gorgeous sunny day and we’ve been so lucky with the weather. When I get home I’ll be planning our next little adventure When we were in lockdown and we weren’t allowed to travel anywhere I made a decision to do as much travelling as possible when we’re allowed and whilst we still can as you never know what tomorrow brings. I’m not really one for far flung places but I do like to see lots of places in the UK
Pleased you got your internet back dusty and hope the missing parcel arrives soon
Have a lovely evening and TOYA

How lovely to come in to this warm and caring kitchen. Hellogirl I’m sorry not to have checked how you were earlier today and hope you feel up to posting later. The reason I didn’t get back to you earlier is that after posting a long and grumpy post on the Good Morning thread, we completely lost all internet. No lunch time news, no updates from the Portuguese postal service, no light relief of afternoon TV after a bad night for both of us. Even our landline wasn’t working which given where we live could be worrying. DH went down to the telephone company at four o’clock and at least we now have internet and main phone back but of course that not a help with the mystery delivery.
Still, no worries, we are safe and warm and connected to the world again, and about to have a glass of wine before eating. wine smile

Jaxjacky Thu 20-Jan-22 18:27:08

PS Sébastien gets my vote Urms, supporting the local economy ?

Jaxjacky Thu 20-Jan-22 18:25:26

Big ouch on the foot hellogirl, good job you had it checked, I’m hoping it’s healing nicely and less painful.
May you soon pop out from under the weather N&G?
I don’t do that much brook, but thank you.
Grumbles are welcomed in the kitchen Yia we all have them, along with aches, pains and groans, we know life’s fraught with downs, but hopefully more ups.
Tracking replaced on the blind today, hurray. Twodrives done, a visit to the farm shop and a short walk by a river. MrJ is cooking tonight, so I have a glass of white, going down nicely, your health all ?.

Grandmabatty Thu 20-Jan-22 17:57:41

*Urms Sebastian's sounds like a plan!
Good afternoon kitcheners. I had an unexpected visit this afternoon from the whole family of dd, sil and both boys. I was busy making lemon muffins as they appeared. Today has been much better. I've begun clearing out the hall cupboard and tidied up elsewhere. I'm making toad in the hole at the moment so I will love you and leave you. Tara for now

Urmstongran Thu 20-Jan-22 17:53:55

‘Evening All’

We met friends in the bar downstairs a couple of hours ago. They fly home to Manchester tomorrow morning. We went inside the bar as it’s been chilly today. A couple of whisky and cokes warmed the cockles ...
??

Up home now. Not sure whether to (a) find something to eat here in an hour or (b) walk over the road to Sebastian’s restaurant for solomio and chimichuri sauce ... decisions, decisions!

SueDonim Thu 20-Jan-22 17:10:14

My decluttering mojo has disappeared. sad If anyone has seen it, could you return it to me, please? I have been doing some this afternoon but with bad grace and much muttering beneath my breath. blush

soop Thu 20-Jan-22 17:08:00

Evening! N&G. Lovely to have you back with us. grin

soop Thu 20-Jan-22 17:06:58

Urms I can almost feel the warm sunshine on my face. A lovely photograph.

brook Your moonlight on the water image would make a delightful greetings card. Such tranquility is super soothing.

As is the delicious voice of Johnny Mathis. I have listened to a long playing record of his this afternoon and it moved me to tears.

I shall away to do a few unnecessary jobs before settling down for the evening.

My love to you all. Please may we meet again tomorrow. smile moon

NanaandGrampy Thu 20-Jan-22 17:06:23

Evening !

I missed the closing of the kitchen but gather there is great news about your op Soop . That is truly wonderful news .

I too know that poem and learnt it at school Gaga , even now its a favourite.

I'll snaffle a bit of cake but wont stay as I am 'under the weather' :-) I'll catch you all soon. x

soop Thu 20-Jan-22 16:56:46

Gagagran Thank you for sharing the beautiful poem.

Hellogirl1 Ouch! No wonder you've been in so much pain. Feet up. Reeeelax. smile

Yiayia We are here for each other no matter what. Life is not always happy clappy. Down days are par for the course.
I wouldn't say no to tandoori chicken. We bought M&S curries when we visited the hospital. Very tasty they were too.

Blossoming Root canal treatment is not for those of a nervous disposition. Mr B will deserve lots of pampering when he returns home.

Sue That poor lady. Surely she deserved a prompt response. It is rather scary that summoning medical assistance appears to add to the trauma for the patient.
Thanks for not shaming me (today). I cannot summon the energy to declutter. Tut!

Sweetie Pie is...guess what? Feasting and lolling on the fleece that covers the door mat. It's a tough life. wink

Yiayia4 Thu 20-Jan-22 15:52:30

Hello Kitcheners.Thank you all so much for your kind words your a lovely lot.No more moans from me I promise.

D.H is much better and has a list of jobs,I will supervise and make him tandoori chicken for dinner.
Hope your foot is feeling better Hellogirl Take care everyone and have a nice evening.

kittylester Thu 20-Jan-22 14:53:08

Ouch Hellogirl Hope your foot is feeling better today.

Do wish you hadn't mentioned elearning Dmms blush as that is what I should be doing.

Hope your DH is ok Peasblossom.

I am feeling quite good about myself today as I had to fill in an application form for a volunteering role and, instead of printing it off and mailing it back, I filled it in on line and sent it back - without using any paper. Phew. Silly really, as the person running the sessions is a friend of many years standing who I worked with doing a similar thing for ages.

Blossoming Thu 20-Jan-22 13:31:27

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners, just popping in to catch up on your news and say ‘hello’. Mr. B is having root canal work at the dentist this afternoon, a couple of hours at least in the chair. I shall worry until he’s safely home again, we have an excellent dentist so fingers crossed it goes OK. I have made sure we have soup, jelly and other soft foods available though he may not feel like eating today. TOYA, hugs to Panache and GrannySomerset

Dogsmakemesmile Thu 20-Jan-22 13:20:29

Thinking of you Yia.
Quiet day. Just housework and a couple of errands on the high street. Picking up Dgs later. Have been dusting, baking and doing some elearning modules.
Stunning but freezing here. TOYA. x

dustyangel Wed 19-Jan-22 22:09:17

keep off it….obviously.

dustyangel Wed 19-Jan-22 22:06:18

Oh Hellogirl that sounds so painful. I don’t normally post at this time but I’m doing a quick catch up and just wanted to express my sympathy. I’ll come back tomorrow to see how you are. At least you can keep of it overnight.

Hellogirl1 Wed 19-Jan-22 21:50:05

So thrilled to read that you`ve gat a surgery date Soop, then a lovely trip to the Highlands. What a year to look forward to now!
I was back at the doc`s with my badly foot again today. He took another close look, decided that what was under there wasn`t a corn after all, went and got a tiny scalpel to have a little dig around, and found...............a tiny stone! Since removal, my foot`s still sore, but not the agony I had before.

SueDonim Wed 19-Jan-22 20:57:23

Sorry you’re having a rough time, Yia. flowers I hope things begin looking brighter soon.

A zorsted doggy BlueBalou!. grin

I had a hair cut today, which was very enjoyable. It was a bit disconcerting, though, as an elderly lady had been taken ill and the staff couldn’t get anyone to respond to their pleas for help. 111 told them to call 999, who said it wasn’t an emergency and to call 111 again, who said they’d send a clinician. None of us knew what a clinician is or when they’d arrive or what they do. Meanwhile, the poor old lady was lying on the floor, wrapped in blankets but shivering and they thought slipping into a diabetic hypo. There’s a surgery about two minutes walk away but they don’t come out, either. It’s so distressing to think that in your hour of need nowadays, you’re essentially on your own and reliant on others. sad

No new decluttering today but we got rid of much of the stuff we’ve heaved out so far to the charity shops so there’s now space in the garage for more rejects from the house! Business will recommence tomorrow - I have paperwork in my line of fire now!

Sweet dreams, everyone. Xxx

Silver

"Slowly, silently now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon
This way and that, she peers and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees......."

Walter de la Mare

Your lovely photo brought the poem to mind brook. A
perfect illustration of it! We learnt the poem in primary school and I have never forgotten it! It has been especially beautiful this week. I think someone said it's a Wolf Moon.
