Been discussed before, I know, but in the DT today, it seems that support for this to be the Duchess of Cornwall’s title in the fullness of time is ever more likely.

I, for one, would be pleased to see this happen. Princess Consort would be a silly title for the wife of the King.

I have never thought Charles will allow his beloved wife to hold an inferior title.

and her father was Equerry to George V1th 1950-52, and also the Queen 1952-54. Diana played with Princes Andrew and Edward while living on the Sandringham estate. She was no stranger to royal etiquette and how to behave around royals.

Anniebach Mon 07-Feb-22 12:57:23

Pantglas yes the mysterious blonde on the royal train, why did Diana’s mother loan her car to Camilla !

MissAdventure Mon 07-Feb-22 12:36:53

I always understood everyone knew, and approved, within the inner circle.
If Diana's sister didn't, well, she would hardly be the first woman to be kept in the dark about her boyfriends secret dalliance.

People keep a whole different home/family/children from their wives, for years.

Mollygo sorry, I wasn’t clear.
I meant hostility from the public, not his sons.
I’m a lot more interested in how this plays out societally, I’m not actually that fussed about William and Harry blush

Exactly. No one made him ask. Why wouldn't Diana accept if she had no idea what was going on? She was hoodwinked. So we are being asked not to believe a word Diana (allegedly) said but believe everything we are told about Charles and Camilla? That poor girl. What chance did she stand against that lot?

I disagree that she didn’t know what was going on.

Diana denied being the mystery blonde on the royal train parked in sidings overnight some months before their engagement.

Who marries a man who can’t stay faithful while he’s courting you? Someone who’d choose position, prestige and power over fidelity, obviously.

Anniebach Mon 07-Feb-22 12:32:51

Miss Adventure . Do you not think it strange that Sarah Spencer didn’t know of the alleged affair and the fact that the
Spencers mixed with the royal family, they lived at Sandringham before they inherited Althorp, they holidayed at
Balmoral, her grandmother was lady in waiting to the Queen
Mother, sister Jane was married to Robert Fellows who worked in the Queen’s private Secretary office. The Queen is Godmother to Charles Spencer .

No one knew of the alleged affair?

Kate1949 Mon 07-Feb-22 12:25:53

Me too MissA. How quickly we forget.

MissAdventure Mon 07-Feb-22 12:24:17

I'm sure she was under duress, too.
She was 19.
I'm bewildered as to why charles is excused for his role in their relationship, and diana is castigated, still.

Mollygo Mon 07-Feb-22 12:21:39

I’m really surprised at what you say Jo and Kate
I honestly didn’t think that there was still hostility toward Camilla

Actually, we don’t know either way.
Unless some of us are hiding an intimate acquaintance with either of the princes.
We know by hearsay and that hearsay is always biased to reflect the point of view of the sayer, even when it’s in a book or an article written by ‘somebody close to the . . .’

I think P.C was under a lot of pressure to find a 'suitable' bride, none more so than by his grandmother the Queen Mother, it is said that both she and Diana's grandmother Lady Fermoy , a confident of the Q.M, greatly encouraged this bethrothal, this, along with other family pressure was understandably difficult to repel. Diana was not a novice in the ways of the RF, her sister dated PC and the families moved in the same social circle including each others all her life. Her father Earl Spencer was an Equery to George V1th . Unlike Catherine and Sophie Wessex, Diana , contrary to public opinion was not unfamiliar with court proceedings.

MissAdventure Mon 07-Feb-22 11:42:43

So the only fact we actually have is that charles dated Diana's sister.

Kate1949 Mon 07-Feb-22 11:40:07

I think you're right Beswitched.

Prince Harry Could Unveil Secrets in His Book That Will Be Devastating for His Stepmother Camilla, Former Royal Employee Says............
Since stepping down as a senior royal in 2020, Prince Harry has spoken his truth of what life behind palace walls was like for him. But the Duke of Sussex isn’t done airing out secrets about Britain’s most family. The prince is releasing a memoir in 2022 and many royals are reportedly upset over what he will reveal, but perhaps none more than Camilla Parker Bowles.

Anniebach Mon 07-Feb-22 11:39:16

Kula fact - Charles was in a relationship with Diana’s sister, did she know of the alleged affair? I don’t take what the media
says,

Charles said the affair with Camilla started after the marriage had broken down,

William said the Panorama interview had ‘played on her fears
and fuelled paranoia. He also said the BBC had lied to her about the royal family.

I think she was let down by a lot of people. Her parents early on in her life, her father and grandmother for supporting the engagement instead of stepping in and trying to put a stop to it, her older sisters for laughing off her concerns as the wedding day approached, Prince Charles for marrying her when he was in live with someone else and then treating her with no sympathy or respect.
I know she was no saint herself and also behaved badly at times. But she was a very damaged and neglected young woman. But then Charles had a difficult upbringing as well and possibly knew no better and was under massive pressure to find a suitable wife.

Kalu Mon 07-Feb-22 11:19:56

My evidence comes from the same source as you Annie, media coverage. None of us are privy to the facts.

MissAdventure

No one made him ask, I'd presume.
As the older, more worldly one, you might have expected him to know better.

Agreed.

MissAdventure Mon 07-Feb-22 11:11:41

Unless people lived with charles, camilla, or diana, how can they give evidence of anything?

Anniebach Mon 07-Feb-22 11:08:46

Still no one has given any evidence that Charles was with Camilla when he married. It’s all based on what Diana said .

Kula can you give any evidence of the allegations?

Diana did have mental health problems before she married, unless pushing one’s step mother down stairs is something many do

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 07-Feb-22 11:06:06

I think he would have been under a lot of pressure to marry a ‘suitable girl’ (i.e. without a past) and produce an heir.

MissAdventure Mon 07-Feb-22 11:03:29

Jaberwok Mon 07-Feb-22 11:00:21

Diana could have refused his proposal, no one made her accept.

Jaberwok Mon 07-Feb-22 10:58:45

I absolutely agree henetha. P.C is a sensitive man who has had, by his own admission, quite a difficult time and been in a difficult position for many more years than expected. Not the best of relationships with his parents when a youngster, a totally unsuitable school for a sensitive boy, somewhat overshadowed by his much more outgoing sister and then pushed into a marriage which he probably knew would be difficult. George V1th was rather the same, a sensitive man full of self doubt, given to quite violent temper outbursts, calmed by his wife. P.C is similar to his grandfather and equally calmed by Camilla. She certainly deserves her title, thank goodness for her. They'll make an excellent king and Queen.

Kate1949 Mon 07-Feb-22 10:50:03

Me neither Kalu.
