Been discussed before, I know, but in the DT today, it seems that support for this to be the Duchess of Cornwall’s title in the fullness of time is ever more likely.

I, for one, would be pleased to see this happen. Princess Consort would be a silly title for the wife of the King.

I have never thought Charles will allow his beloved wife to hold an inferior title.

who honestly cares about some outdated titles nonsense?

Well, we’re on Page 27 of this thread, so quite a few GN’ers are interested actually.

I agree Granyand I thought the article you posted a link to very interesting.

Yammy
I certainly care what happened all those years ago.
Never was never will be on side Charles and Camilla..My opinion unlikely to ever change.
Her majesty will have however, and in her wisdom, taken the only route.

Yes he or she would.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 12-Feb-22 09:46:36

Sure as Biden or Trump Grany?

Anniebach Sat 12-Feb-22 09:53:11

grany you use to give Michael Higgins as an example of a President, he was a member of the Labour Party and had twice
stood as the Labour candidate at elections . He was the Labour candidate for the presidency.

Grany Sat 12-Feb-22 14:01:53

It wouldn't be like an American model. It would be British a constitutional Head of State, a written constitution that school children could read or anyone.

There would be strict rules laws that a president could not interfere in politics (unlike the RF queen's consent changed over 1000 laws before brought to legislation) though RF like to give impression of being above politics.

Anniebach Sat 12-Feb-22 14:12:48

And Michael Higgins ?

Grany Sat 12-Feb-22 15:09:31

Anniebach

And Michael Higgins ?

What about him?

Michael Higgins resigned from Labour when he became President of Ireland. Like judges you have to be neutral. Politics doesn't come into the job of president unlike the Royals. Michael is well liked and respected.

Anniebach Sat 12-Feb-22 15:44:46

Yes he suddenly stopped supporting Labour, he was the Labour
candidate and when he won the presidency he was no longer interested in the Labour Party.

Boris wins the presidency and declares I am no longer a tory

Is it any worse than a President’s wife being called the First Lady? A twee title if ever there was one.

Indeed. I'd rather have " King and Queen Consort" than "Potus and Flotus".

Grany Sat 12-Feb-22 16:20:09

Because these are two different jobs. You are political when leading a party but obviously not when you are president you have to abide by the law not to get involved in politics stay neutral and do the job required of you in public office

No one in their right mind would vote for Johnson a second time. But if he did win and got involved in politics he would be removed. As unlike the Royals who do get involved plenty in politics though they shouldn't and can't be removed an elected president could be.

Anniebach Sat 12-Feb-22 18:02:06

France and Germany - politicians

Lucca Sat 12-Feb-22 18:58:48

Why is First Lady any more twee than queen consort ?
Ah I see because it’s American and therefore unacceptable….

"First Lady" is neutral, really.

But 'Potus' and 'Flotus' always makes me giggle. Not in a derisory way - I have American ancestry.

Do the same people who are upset at the thought of an adulterer and the woman who was his mistress being king and queen feel the same about our present PM moving his pregnant fiancee, previously mistress, into no 10 I wonder? For the record, I think Camilla has behaved with dignity and discretion and hasn't put a foot wrong since they married.

I feel exactly the same about Boris

maddyone Mon 14-Feb-22 10:56:30

I don’t have any problem with Prince Charles becoming king in due course. The media being as it is, we know about his affair and Diana’s affairs. Many years ago it would have happened and we wouldn’t have known.
I feel exactly the same about BJ bringing Carrie into number ten when he became Prime Minister. Whatever faults BJ may have, I don’t feel any more judgmental towards him or Prince Charles with regard to living with their girlfriends.
Judge not, lest you be judged.
Stick to complaints about BJ’s performance as a Prime Minister.

We discussed this with my brother, who is divorced and remarried and has quite a high up position in a famous University. He wondered if people on GN are so perfect they can afford to be judgemental of all divorced/ remarried people and in which case he was glad his personal life was not so public. I did point out that this is the RF and GN’s are more opinionated rather than judgemental. He and wife no2 are neither pro nor anti royalist but he asked how much difference it would make to us if Camilla was Queen Consort or not? I had to admit it will make no difference to me. Apart from a chance to judge or pass an opinion, how much difference will her title make to your life?

Lucca Mon 14-Feb-22 14:10:26

Not a jot she can be queen or duchess or kings partner or Charlie’s wifey or the monarch’s squeeze

maddyone Mon 14-Feb-22 15:59:45

It’ll make no difference to my life at all. I hope Charles and Camilla are happy together.
