No, not Harry but the handbag!
She has it over her shoulder in a photo in the Times today. Just my sort of bag. It’s made by a Scottish firm. Great. Supporting the U.K. is what I want to do.
I went on the website and discovered it was quite pricey , over £400, I didn’t think it would be cheap but wondered if I could ask for it for my birthday.
No I can’t have it it’s made in Spain!
DH breathes a sigh of relief.
How much have you ever spent on a handbag?

Zoejory Sun 23-Jan-22 19:01:10

My friend recently purchased a handbag for £1300.

I have no time for handbags or shoes. I only have 2 handbags, both are from a friend who went through a spate of buying handbags when her husband left her.

I do prefer leather. Huge difference between leather and man made

shock

Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't!

MissAdventure Sun 23-Jan-22 19:31:40

When I've watched posh pawn I was amazed at the handbag people.
It really is a thing...
White gloves to handle them, all kept in tissue, inside boxes.
I had never realised.

Callistemon21 Sun 23-Jan-22 19:32:18

Thanks for the pic, Pamela!

No, I don't feel envy - I prefer a wider strap and all those separate sections would have me searching through for what I needed! (I know, because I had a similar one but not that make.)

Ooooh GiddyGranny

CONGRATULATIONS

I hope mother and baby are well and home soon!! xx

I must be such a skinflint, I begrudge paying stupid prices for things such as handbags!
I think you most has been about £10-£15.
Well, I get bored with them, or I wear them out!! Lol

Aveline Sun 23-Jan-22 20:34:10

My DD once bought a second hand bag from eBay for £600. I thought she was mad until she sold it to a handbag exchange shop for £4000!!! She obviously understands this market.

Lucca

I have very few bags. Currently I would love a leather backpack ,slimline, in dark brown or oxblood leather… not over £100…any ideas ?

I have sent you a pm.

BigBertha1 Mon 24-Jan-22 06:41:39

£120 is the most I have ever spent on a handbag which was reduced from £150 its a Tulane. I have a couple of others around the £100 Mark but had them ages and rotate through them.

Casdon Mon 24-Jan-22 07:49:31

Lucca Joules do some lovely quality leather bags and backpacks, try looking for the Hallaton model, which converts into a normal bag too. It’s lovely, but only in tan in the sale on their site at the moment. EBay may have other colours or models.

Congratulations GiddyGranny on your new Granddaughter smile You must be so HAPPY flowers

I looked in the Sunday Times for this coveted bag - just out of curiosity as I would never pay £400 - but failed to find it.

You obviously don’t read the business section? I posted a photo on the previous page.

MayBeMaw Mon 24-Jan-22 10:12:46

I hate to rain on anybody’s parade , but in the Meghan/celeb scheme of things, £400 is nothing - I really thought you had left a digit off the end Fanny !
I have been shocked at handbag prices over the last £20 years or so and think “designer” bags are largely responsible, but when department stores are stocking bags for hundreds of £££ it seems to have got (no pun intended) out of hand.

Giddygranny

Well today was the day I actually became a Granny at last, my daughter baby was IVF, so very precious. And she ended up having to have an emergency c section but all is well. So looking forward to being more active on Gransnet

Congratulations giddy.
Some very important advice - Do not put the baby in a large handbag and leave it at Victoria Station.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 24-Jan-22 10:17:34

Ah, I haven’t got to the business section yet. Today I hope. Thanks Pammiel.

TerriBull Mon 24-Jan-22 10:19:40

I believe the handbag queen VB has a collection in excess of £100,000 possibly more now ,adding to it all the time. Once upon a time before she had her girl child, she lamented on the fact that she had no one to leave her bits of old leather and crocodile skin to her extensive collection to, that must have weighed on her mind far more than the said handbags weighing on spindly arms. Oh to be burdened with first world problems such overwhelming mind taxing dilemmas .sad

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 24-Jan-22 10:20:42

Curiosity got the better of me and I looked at Pammiel’s picture. Nope, wouldn’t want that at £4 let alone £400. Don’t like all the pockets that splay out.

DillytheGardener Mon 24-Jan-22 10:25:07

I have a YSL bag, some Kate Spade bags in various colours/styles and a couple of coach bags. So a bit of everything. I invest more in bags than my clothes. Most of my clothes come from a catalogue, but I feel I can jazz up my outfit with good hair and a nice purse. People then assume your clothes are as pricey as your bags. (All of which came from sales and or EBay) I understand why some people don’t splurge on bags though, the things that spark joy is different for everyone.

harrigran Mon 24-Jan-22 10:31:39

I wouldn't want Meghan's bag, not attractive.
I have several Mulberry bags and some other desirable ones, they represent good value because you can return them for repair or refurbishment.

ElaineI Mon 24-Jan-22 11:27:09

I love Radley bags and have a few but since the pandemic all I take is a reusable carrier bag with my purse, hand gel and a few masks inside. I don't know if I will ever go back to handbags ?

maydonoz Mon 24-Jan-22 17:49:07

For the past few years I've been buying my bags from a factory in Turkey which we know and get them at a good price. I used a navy blue one for a few years until it needed a small stitching repair. Now I have a wine coloured one, their style is quite similar, with an over shoulder strap and a few sections with zips, both inside and out. I find them very functional for carrying mobile, keys and mask on the outside and two sections inside for bits and pieces.
I don't change over unless one wears out, I wouldn't want to move all my stuff around.
On my last trip I got one for my DIL and she's using it.
They cost about £20 which is not cheap in Turkish lira.
The most expensive bag I bought was from M&S, it cost £50 at least twenty years ago but it was leather

PamelaJ1 Mon 24-Jan-22 18:06:02

maydonaz one of the reasons I was interested in the bag was that it appeared to be made by a British company. I am really trying to buy things made here.
At the moment I’m bidding on a Ridley bag on eBay that should match my wedding outfit later this year. Not sure where it is made but I give myself some leeway if it’s second hand?

henetha Mon 24-Jan-22 18:50:54

I love Kipling bags, but even then I only buy them when on sale. The most I have paid is £35.
They are so light yet strong, have lots of pockets and come in pretty colour choices and they do lots of cross body bags.
