Very boring for me ( met through work ) but a friend of mine is married to the mechanic who came to fix her car. Not terribly romantic either I know! grin
Just seems so many people meet their partner online these days it’s nice to remember how it used to be.

Nothing special. But he is. ?

My DH came to mend my Sis-IL's washing machine when I was staying (he isn't a washing machine repairer btw).

I thought "he'd be useful" and yes, he is ?

I already was betrothed to someone else ....

M0nica

We met at the Sailing Club at university. So far so traditional, but it was another six years before we began to take an interest in each other.

We had both graduated, worked in London and DH rangup as he needed a crew for his sailing dinghy. After 18 months of being shouted at, sworn at and tipped into the river when we capsized-and giving as good as I got,(dinghy sailing brings out the worst in everyone) I decide if I could survive that, I could survive being married to him - and I was right. 54th wedding anniversary hoving into sight.

M0nica ???

I always wanted to go to a newly opened German beer Keller so arranged to go with a friend. 2 lads came to our table and asked us if we would like a drink. At that point the chain broke on a locket I was wearing that my ex husband had bought me. It was the only jewellery I was wearing. Sure it was fate as the last reminder of the past had broken. I married the one I danced with a year later and here we are 44 years married now.

My friend rang me NYE 1998 from Donegal, she was cebrating with her BF and his friend (both men from Belfast) I briefly spoke to the friend. The following January he flew over to Southampton to spend a few days with them, I met him briefly with the other two, for a quick meal before his flight back. He came back a month later, I was moving house, they all helped me, we were both smitten, he came back two weeks later for my birthday.
We had a ‘courtship’ of over a year, by phone, letter and visits, mainly by him (I have two children). He then moved here, tricky early years, my children’s father was/is absent, but they have loved him for many years now.
23 years on the 1st March, married for 15 next November.

I worked in one of the offices at British Telecom - it was actually part of the Post Office in those days - in 1978. My husband worked in the sorting office upstairs. He used to have to collect the outgoing mail from the offices, and one day, in doing his work, he winked at me. I winked back, and he dropped all his letters. I went over to help him pick them up, and chatted him up grin.

That was the start of it, and we've been married almost 42 years now

I met mine at work. My dad kept inviting him into the office for a coffee until he finally gave me a lift home!

We were 15 and at the local disco (doesn't that sound old-fashioned!) His friend asked could Mr C walk me home (that was the usual chat-up line then ?). I agreed, only for the friend to come back to me to say sorry, but Mr C can't make it tonight! A week later, at another disco, the same friend asked again could Mr C walk me home. I laughed and said fine, if he was sure that he wouldn't back out again! We were together for a few months and then fell out. Didn't see him until a year later; we were both in the local Bier Keller (I know, underage drinking tut, tut) and he just came over and asked could he buy me a drink. We married when we were 20 and are still together 46 years later.

I used to go to the local dance hall most Fridays with girls from work. He asked me to dance, it was a barn dance, we dropped out when it went progressive, went to the bar for a drink, chatted, and arranged to meet the following evening and go to the pictures. We saw a Charlton Heston film, something about pigeons in Rome. We married 7 months later, were married for just over 53 years until he died in October 2016.

I was fifteen he was eighteen both of us still at school. We met two nights a week at the local catholic night clubs in our respective parishes where we danced the night away to all the 60s music with the parish priest watching over us..?

Our kids think night club is a bit of an exaggeration but it was just that……. I loved him “before I knew his name “ so our song is just that.

God love him he has Alzheimer’s now but fifty years later I still love him. It’s been a rocky road but we made it through….

In case there are any folk from the Rochdale area on here, I should add that the dance hall was the Carlton in Rochdale and it was November 1962 when we met, at the Lacrosse club annual dance. He was a brass band player, with Heywood Old Prize Band, and apparently it was my liking for brass bands that ensured future dates!

Met Ex in a club as he was a friend of my friends boy friend. I knew before the wedding it wasn't right - not quite "Face on the Tea Towels" but I felt as if I couldn't call it off. Although I was very tempted to take up my Maid of Honours offer of running away to Blackpool for the weekend instead of going to the church and deal with the fall out after.

Met DH when I sold him a motor bike, I didn't want to sell it but needed the money as I was getting ready to move. Spent the following 3 months or so doing the little hand raise wave when her rode pass.

About a year after I moved I went back to visit a friend who told me this man keeps saying "hi" to her at the 10 pin bowling club :-).

While I was visiting we went bowling and the the man who kept saying "hi" was there and said "hi" had a quick chat and went back to his mates. I told my friend he was the man I sold my bike to and he'd seen us together so recognised her. She'd only ever seen him with his helmet on so she never really got a look at him - all was explained.

They then used to talk at the club, he told my friend he was posted and she told him I had got divorced and was living in the town nearest to where he was going. She asked if she could let him have my address, he dropped me a note asking if I'd like to take his new Suzuki GS 1000 for a ride as he'd traded in the bike I'd sold him.

The rest as they say is history, sadly or wisely neither of us ride any more.

We met when I got a job in his family's grocery shop. I was 17. I didn't like him very much to begin with, but when I left to begin my nurse training, he arrived at my room in the nurses home to ask me out.
It was an on/off relationship for a good few years. We were both 30 when we got married.
We celebrate our Ruby wedding this Easter.

In 1982 I was pregnant with my third child, but living apart from my (soon to be ex) husband when Mr GA joined my church. He was ten years younger than me and although we soon became good friends I’d have been shocked to the core to imagine that we could one day be romantically involved.

We went for a walk one day in 1985 and while we were out we chatted - I looked up at him, he looked down at me, then the world stopped turning and we kissed! We married the following year.

Thirty five years have passed and he is still my dearest and closest friend and I love him to bits. Our shared faith is still at the core of our relationship.

I went to university in Australia, from my native Mauritius, met a young English man and followed him to England. He dumped me soon after.
By then I was working in a bank and my immediate boss, who knew I was unattached, suggested he knew a very nice man with whom he played. I retorted that I wasn’t so desperate to go to a rugby club on my own! He arranged a bank do, and got DH to invite me as his +1. Blind date…. We clicked immediately and have been together 48 years, married for 45. My dearest and best friend.

I used to work as a waitress in the local pub and my 1st husband always stood in the way when I was carrying hot plates. I told him if he didn't find another part of the bar to stand by I would stab him with a kebab stick! We married when I was 18 and he was 21.
Sadly he was killed in a road accident 5 years later when I was pregnant with our 1st baby.
My 2nd husband was a work friend and colleague and here we are 30+ years later. I am grateful every day to for my two wonderful DH's

HettyBetty Thu 27-Jan-22 07:58:38

Friend of a previous boyfriend. All very civilised, we are all still in touch a few decades later and DH has recently been involved in some voluntary work with previous boyfriend's wife.

Spotted him - as students- in a bier Keller. Ended up dancing on the tables! Have been married now for 46 years.
Still like dancing!

We met 37 years ago at Greek evening class! I was attending so that I could speak a little more than good morning to parents of children who had travelled from Greece so that their children could have complex heart surgery! As it was I also got myself the most wonderful husband!

Chicklette Thu 27-Jan-22 10:40:41

We were penfriends! We had both been married before and joined a penfriends group for ‘single, divorced or widowed Christians of all ages’. I honestly only joined to make friends as a lonely single Mum. After writing for a while he asked to come and visit me. I agreed then was terrified on the day. I peered out the window and decided if he looked too weird I would t open the door ? Luckily he looked ok and we’re about to celebrate our 30th anniversary in March. ❤️❤️

At a Halloween party. He was there with his previous girlfriend. He then left the country for five months (not for this reason!). By the time he got back the girlfriend was history. In December we will have our Golden Anniversary.
