At secondary school, been married 44 years this year
Soops kitchen, a place of reflection, refuge and at times revelry.
A group of Cambridge academics want any inquiry into recruitment and selection processes.
Very boring for me ( met through work ) but a friend of mine is married to the mechanic who came to fix her car. Not terribly romantic either I know!
Just seems so many people meet their partner online these days it’s nice to remember how it used to be.
At secondary school, been married 44 years this year
Met the love of my life at a night club. He called next day. We met for our first date on the Wednesday and I KNEW he was the one. Been together 37 years and married 34 this august. DH has terminal cancer so counting every day together as a blessing. If only we could do it all over again.......❤️
My ex was a holiday romance I had on a girls getaway on the Canary Islands. He asked me to dance and after a year of visiting between England and N.Ireland we married a year later. We were together for 14 years before I had to leave the marriage.
Met DH at work. He was a Detective in the Drug Squad , scruffily dressed to do staged ‘buys’ and he shouted at me on my first day as a civvy on the squad at 18 , when I got the paperwork mixed up. Went home and said how I hated him. We’ve been married 43years now ??
Petera I went on the SS Uganda on a school cruise when I was 14. A local hotel used to hold adisco on a Saturday night. You paid to go in and had a basket meal in the price. I'd just been served my chicken and chips when a hand came over my shoulder picked up my chicken leg and took a bite out of it. He then put it back in the basket. 46 years on I'm still feeding him lol
Some lovely heartwarming
Met mine crewing on the same small yacht in the Med.
At a wedding - bridesmaid and best man!
At a work friends wedding. It was my 1st year at work & he was in his last year at school. I was tormented something rotten at work. It was as though I was a cradle snatcher. We have been married 39 years this may.
We met at work in the engineering department of a large company in the east midlands. Not at all romantic. I think it's quite good to meet in an everyday type setting like that.
My DH registered as a patient in the GP surgery where I was practice manager. His name and date of birth were unforgettable. Seven years later ( after my divorce) , I saw him in a pub on Hogmanay. I told my friend- Juliet - what his name and dob were and we laughed. He spoke to me later when he finally remembered who I was. We were just friends for about five years before realising that it was serious. We celebrate our 30th anniversary in May.
Mr H. was my driving instructor. Shortly before Christmas he asked if I'd like to go to a carol concert with him. Sadly I had to decline as I was committed to visiting family that weekend. But he didn't give up, and 6 months later we were engaged and married a year later. That was over 40 years ago and we're still just as much in love.
I met my husband in a pub that had live bands playing every Sunday evening. His friend fancied my friend and offered her a lift home but the lift was in his friends car. Friend asked if I wanted a lift too but I declined because he was cocky and had ‘come to bed eyes’. He followed me to the bus stop and wouldn’t leave until I agreed to get in his car. First date was at a Liverpool FC match, I was the fanatic, he provided the lift. He wasn’t cocky at all and we were happily married until he passed away one week off our 51st wedding anniversary in 2019. So glad I took that lift.
We went to the same college. One rainy lunchtime, walking back to college after a trip to town, he came up behind me and asked if he could share my umbrella. I replied “no”, you can get wet !!!!!!!! He still reminds me of this after 54 years of marriage ??
I met my husband in an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting he asked if I fancied a coffee afterwards so we went to a pub and sat and had a very nice coffee. We have been married 23 years, the best sober years of our lives.
I was at a student party in 1980, got bored and went to find my friend last seen on a man's lap by a fireplace. Found him still sitting there but no sign of my friend. I asked him where my friend was, his answer was 'Oh, she's flown off up the chimney!' which I did not find funny. Went home alone from the party but ended up marrying that irritating man four years later - still married!
In 2006 I was aged 60, 4 years out of a 20-year relationship that in the end became very toxic, I was retired and my mother had died 2 years earlier. I was quite content and seriously contemplating a move to Suffolk.
Then I went on a council-run "Simply Walks" walk, to get some exercise and fresh air. It was my first walk and people were friendly and chatty, particularly a chap who was very interesting and amusing, telling me about his career as a television lighting director and making me laugh. That evening I was thinking about my day and the chap, and a voice said in my head "we are going to be very important to each other".
Well, that terrified the life out of me because I was quite happy with my single life, thank you very much, so I didn't go back to the walks. But about 3 weeks later I told myself not to be such an idiot, so I did go back. The chap's face lit up when he saw me, mine did the same and we've been together ever since and happily married since 2009.
I used to regularly visit the Cavern Club with my girlfriends. It's only small, and a man I wasn't attracted to used to often approach me and try to ask me out. One night I saw him making his way through the crowd, and hastily turned to the man next to me and said, "Quick! Talk to me." He obliged, and then HE asked me out. He was a bit of a hippy, and 6 years older than me, but we ended up married to each other for .52 years.
My late husband and I met outside the local secondary school. I was 14 , he was 18. I was with a friend waiting for her younger sister to come out of the Valentines Dance but I don’t know who he was there for . We chatted for a while , but didn’t really date until the following year . He joined the army and when he came home on leave we started dating , I was 16 by then . We were married when I was 19. We have 3 children and we’re together for almost 35 years until he died . This year would have been our Golden wedding anniversary. Although we met on Valentine’s Day he never bought me card until that very last year . He died suddenly 5 months later .
I met my first husband in 1974 at the same club we attended, we married in 1976, I was 19, he was 21, had two children, but he then sadly died in 1991 aged 36, I was 34 and the kids 8 and 11.
12 years later in May 2003, I went to my sisters works leaving do and she introduced me to my now husband. We clicked immediately, he moved into my house 2 months later and we got married exactly a year to the day we met. He’s the best husband, step dad and grandad I could ever wish for.
My cousin and I used to go to our local pub my dh was there with his friends I didn’t take much notice of him at the time. As it was the sixties when the pub closed we may have been asked to a party sometimes and he would be there with his mates.
We got talking sitting on the sofa. And starting dating, we were
Married in August 1968. My dh is 81 now.
I met a boy at a dance hall in our town and he had a group of friends which I joined. One night at a party/gathering one of the 'gang' started chatting to me and then we had a jive and a few kisses. The first boy's friends were not happy with me but I didn't really care. Anyway we've been married now for over 50 years.
Met him in a 70s disco. At 6 foot 5 he was ideal to hide behind to avoid the persistent and unwanted attention of another.
I always liken our meeting to a " Mills and Boon " novel .
He was the junior doctor on a hospital ward and I was the final final year medical student.
He was very rude when I walked onto the ward in October 1979 , demanding to know if I knew how to put a drip ( iv infusion) up .... which I did .
We married in July 1981 and 40 years and 4 kids later we are still together.
He wasn't really as rude as he seemed though he can have his moments.
I met my husband, who was only my second boyfriend, on a blind date when I was 18, married at 19, still well and truly spliced 46 plus years later.
