Fraud.A warning.Please read.

after the news at 12 noon, mon to fri.
and on saturday it's money box, same time.
this has alerted me to many scams and other interesting topics.

If this does happen to you and they tell you to ring the bank on a number you know. Put the phone down and call a friend or a relative. If ‘the bank’ answers you know it is a scam.

Just thought I would warn of another scam not yet mentioned going about re amazon uk accounts.
It is a recorded message [already suspicious] say they were just checking as someone had bought a product costing £675 amazon were suspicious so wanted to check.Press 1
What idiots do they think anyone who has an amazon account wouldn’t immediately check their account.
Nevertheless all these scams can’t just be dismissed by anyone
as has been said even the most savvy can answer the phone when in a very distressed moment and just answer to get rid of call.I have an app that is called ‘who called me’ you put in the phone number that you don’t recognise and it will tell u what it’s about and where in the country it’s from and other peoples experiences.

That is terrible. Good on you for telling people. Please try not to let it eat away at you. They are so good at scamming. It is just crazy so unfair. Hopefully they will get caught one day. If not I hope they get a good dose of severe constipation.

When the Royal Mail scam started about 2-3 years ago we had an email or text, can’t remember which, saying we needed to pay excess postage before receiving package. I realise this is a well known scam now but didn’t then We were actually waiting for a RM delivery so was just about to pay up with bank details when OH, a canny Yorkshireman, said don’t do it - it’s supposed to be free delivery!
Nowadays we get scam texts from delivery companies who “failed to deliver your parcel”. Had one today in fact.

I usually hang up on such calls, but the other week I had a scam call about my PC and decided to play along.
I kept asking the person to repeat what he had said, then lied and said I was a highly qualified IT expert and he should be ashamed of scamming vulnerable people.
The phone was then slammed down.

I am not expecting a delivery.
But if I was……?
As it says that I am registered with them I am surprised they don’t have my address.

We all know the dangers and say that it will never happen to me! About a year ago I to was scammed by someone supposedly from my bank saying that a large sum of money had been withdrawn from my account. To cut a long story short I disclosed all my online banking details but just in time something didn’t seem to be right and I ended the call. I think that you just go into panic mode, I know that I did and it took me a long time to sort things out afterwards. I’m sure that the scammer got my information from a tv license form that I filled in by using a link sent by email! Something else that we are advised never to do. Be warned everyone and stay safe!

Had a call this morning caller with foreign voice saying that my internet would be cut off I didn’t pay some money. I kept quiet and he kept waffling on until he realised I wasn’t going to talk and hung up. I phoned the number back and as I thought the number was unavailable.

Which have a weekly scam notification. Anyone can register to receive these warnings

My daughter was scammed a couple of years ago.
They texted that her phone bill hadn’t been paid and as she needs it for work she panicked and replied to the text with her details. Realised almost immediately what had happened and phoned her bank straight away to cancel her card.
But.. the buggers phoned her back a week later pretending to be her bank and told her they needed to move her money to a new account where it would be safe. She agreed as they had her security details so assumed it was the bank.
It wasn’t and they spent several thousand pounds on her card.
She felt so stupid. She applied to her bank and they refused to refund as they said they had done everything they could to make her fraud aware.
Obviously not because she then applied to the financial ombudsman and they made the bank return every penny.
It took a while during covid but was worth all the stress.

I never give any personal information to anybody.

I can’t believe it.
Yet again another person let’s themselves be scammed.

How many times have we been warned about this sort of thing.
Numerous TV programmes discuss it, radio programmes and it’s all over the news.
If in doubt, put the telephone receiver down and ignore.

It’s not rocket science. All you need is a bit of common sense.

I can’t feel sorry for anyone who allows this to happen.
Except maybe. Someone who suffers with dementia.
Then that’s understandable.

Some people are less worldly than others. And these are the individuals on whom the scammers rely.

I feel more angry with the type of person who scams.

And, just for the record, even clever people have got caught out with a scam as the scammers become ever more sophisticated.

It's a horrible scam that's been around for a while.

They don't tamper with your phone they are able to make it seem like you're dialling out normally but in actual fact have stayed on the line and then answer as someone else.

As others have said, always use a different phone - mobile if you have one, relative's/neighbour's/friend's if you haven't to contact your bank.

Shinamae I have had that WhatsApp one as well. I asked the person to prove who they were by answering a question only my son would know answer to. Person couldn't of course. I also contacted my son. I blocked and reported the number.

I don't think it's being silly.

The police don't normally contact you on a trivial matter, and I suspect a lot of people worry that something has happened to a relative, or friend even, if they are contacted by them, which could send some into panic mode. Especially older people... but I doubt even they think they're going to be dragged out of their homes and thrown into prison.

It's just instinctive. Being contacted by the police usually means trouble of some sort or other. Nothing to do with having done something "illegal"...

I do hope you get your money back. Germanshepherdsmum is correct in how it happened by the way. It has been really well publicised on the tv.

I have put this on to show how I was nearly scammed last week I even gave them the name of my daughter ?‍♀️ but something in my head said it wasn’t right and I asked the Texter to supply me with the names of her two brothers and of course they couldn’t…..narrow escape!! By the way this was WhatsApp, after I blocked them I did ring my daughter and of course it wasn’t her.OP I do hope you manage to get your money back ?

So sorry to hear of this.
This morning I had a text to stay I’d been in contact with someone who’d got Omicron and needed to order a free test. It was only when I got to the bit asking for bank details re the postage cost I realised it was a variation of the extra postage required before parcel could be delivered

Forgive me for playing dumb but if the banks reimburse everyone who has been scammed, *where does the bank get the money to dish out thousands upon thousands ?

This may seem a stupid question, but i was thinking where is all the ££££ coming from ?

What was true Sparkle? That they had stolen £8000 from you? Did they reimburse you?
I remember some years ago when I got a new kitchen the firm had to phone my card supplier for confirmation because I was spending over my card limit, which I think was just £1000.
They gave temporary cover for that single transaction.
Do we still have a limit on our cards?

I can see why we fall for these scams, a call from the police sends most of us into panic mode.
