The original thread seems to be full. I can’t see a follow on so I’ve started this one ready for the morning rush. Good luck everyone !

I’m just intrigued, baubles. You had two letters in the right place on line 1, why did you move them? Not that it did your score any harm!

TillyTrotter Wed 02-Feb-22 09:11:22

I do a different starter word each day HettyBetty but I’m only average at the game.

dogsmother Wed 02-Feb-22 09:12:42

My best has been three, I always do it when my Mr. Comes home and then it’s ready steady……see who gets in first.

foxie48 Wed 02-Feb-22 09:15:50

HettyBetty I always use the same word to start as it has the most commonly used vowels, also a commonly used consonant and a letter that is used to blend, which is particularly useful to find or discard in five letter words. Depending on what result I get from that, I'll then use a word with the remaining vowels, another blending consonant and a commonly used one but not always, it depends on what result I get. I never solve in 2 but don't aim to, very occasionally, today for eg, I get it in 3 but even today having 4 letters in place, there were 4 potential answers, so there's a huge element of luck involved. The aim, as I see it, is to solve the puzzle in 6 tries and if you do, then you've won but I find I'm often able to work out the answer by line 4 but not always! There are a number of different words that would meet my spec but I always use the same ones, so does OH but he uses different ones to me. Don't know if that helps.

The ‘luck’ element could be removed if we had 1 clue a day ?

muse Wed 02-Feb-22 09:20:22

?2 today.
Lucky first word
Lucky second word. I had two choices.

HettyBetty. I vary my first word. My average is 3 tries. I feel luck plays a big part in this game. Even if you use skill and think of a few words that will fit, it comes down to luck again on whether or not you chose the correct choice.

?? well done Shinamae.

BlueSapphire Wed 02-Feb-22 09:25:52

Did it in 4 today.

nadateturbe Wed 02-Feb-22 09:58:07

Yes Muse luck sometimes plays a bigger part than skill. But not always.

Oldwoman70 Wed 02-Feb-22 09:59:16

Got it in 2!! Must have been that third cup of coffee

Grannynannywanny Wed 02-Feb-22 10:39:27

Lots of good scores today and Shinamae on one! ? ?

Trisha57 Wed 02-Feb-22 10:46:56

3 today.

Michael12 Wed 02-Feb-22 10:50:05

I tried wordle for the first time this morning , using random 5 letter words which was recognised to create the other word .

TillyTrotter Wed 02-Feb-22 11:41:31

Did you enjoy it Mick? Will you be joining us all every day?

So, did you get it in one, Mick?

HettyBetty Wed 02-Feb-22 12:24:19

Thank you everyone for your ideas. I think I will have three or four starring words on a rota.

Marydoll Wed 02-Feb-22 13:03:53

I have been reading an article about the game, apparently ADIEU, is not the best word to start with. That's where I am going wrong! wink
My lips are sealed. ??

I’m just intrigued, baubles. You had two letters in the right place on line 1, why did you move them? Not that it did your score any harm!

Hope you don't mind me answering on Baubles behalf but by not using the letters that you know are correct you can use another 5 different letters, which hopefully will help you identify or eliminate letters. Two or even three correct letters in a first go, may mean you still have vowels to identify and you really haven't got enough to make an educated guess. Knowing the answer to today's puzzle I can think of quite a lot of potentially correct words that would fit with the two letters that Baubles got correct. I actually had exactly the same results so we might have used the same starter word. it made sense to use a "go" to try to narrow down the options. It does mean that I won't get it right in two go's but I'm not bothered by that. Hope my explanation makes sense!

Maggiemaybe Wed 02-Feb-22 13:49:09

It does, foxie48, and thank you! I’d never have thought of that as a strategy. I might just give it a try, see if I can improve my scores. hmm

Chrissielou Wed 02-Feb-22 22:32:13

3 for me today too. I'm also doing the unlimited version too! smile

Sorry Maggie, I’ve just come back to this thread but foxie has explained better than I could have.

Callistemon21 Wed 02-Feb-22 22:41:43

6 today - Phew!

I did get four correct letters in the right order but there were several options by changing the first letter and I kept choosing the wrong one.

MissAdventure Wed 02-Feb-22 22:46:12

5 for me.
I always start getting despondent and thinking I'll never do it after about 3 goes.
Only once I got it easily.

HettyBetty Wed 02-Feb-22 23:16:05

I have discovered today that all the previous Wordle are available, for anyone who wants to do more. I can't link from my phone but it's something like Wordle Archive.

Maggiemaybe Wed 02-Feb-22 23:19:06

Thanks, baubles. I like to see the grids and trying to second guess how others have got there. Perhaps I'm overthinking it now. smile
