I notice quite a few people whose rings no longer fit. I have the same problem and have been wearing the three rings on my middle finger. Does anyone else do this?

Never! Always have rings 'sized' as my fingers chubbed-up!! Dangerous to wear Ill fitting rings , you'll lose them-or your fingers!!

I had 2 wedding rings due to having to have the first cut off at the hospital because of an allergy to a bee sting. I also had a diamond and sapphire eternity ring and husband had no idea but I treated myself many years ago to an beautiful emerald behind his back and had it set in my eternity ring. I decided a about 10 years ago to get rid of all the jewellery I had (when the price of gold went high) as I didn’t often wear it and with the bit of money I got from that I had my wedding rings and eternity ring plus the extra little diamonds and the emerald melted down and made into just one band incorporating all the gems. I helped design the ring and was thrilled with my one wide band that is now my wedding and eternity rings co

Smashing idea, clever you! Love this amalgamation of assets!

After the birth of our son my husband bought me a beautiful sapphire and diamond eternity ring. It was quite unusual as the stones were square. Unfortunately one of the sapphires fell out, but we luckily found it and instead of taking the ring to the jewellers to be mended, dear husband decided to do it himself.
Once fixed in place, husband handed ring to me saying 'that'll not fall out again' referring to the sapphire. How very true!
Unfortunately the glob of glue holding the sapphire in place was not transparent, the light couldn't shine through it, and it was very visible at the back of the ring which was never worn again. Still have it and wear now and again around the house- was bought a beautiful diamonds only one many years later-of which I'm very careful to ensure that it, glue and husband together are never in close proximity!

My mother told me they were invented to make more profits for jewellers.

I'm wondering now what happened to my mums eternity ring.
I always found it moving, looking at the rings all worn thin from wear, years after my dad had died.

Coincidentally I am having to have all the claws on my 3 diamond engagement ring re-pointed with platinum. Caught one on a thread and figured it needed flattened. Bit of a shock when two different assessors told me they should all be done, false economy to have just the one. Even bigger shock when told how much it will cost though after 56 years suppose most things need a bit of attention. No eternity ring, but was given a lovely emerald and diamond ring that I consider to be one and wear it on my right hand.

I never had either an eternity or engagement ring.
My late husband bought my wedding ring while on active service in Palestine in 1946. Since we married in that year it has never left my finger. All the lovely decoration of roses has long worn off.

Never taken my wedding ring off either. It would have to be cut off now.

I don't wear an Eternity ring. I do still wear a wedding ring although I've been divorced for over 30 years.

I have a sapphire and diamond eternity ring DH gave me when our son was born & I wear it all the time with my wedding ring and another ring...sadly, its not an engagement ring which I lost 3 years ago. I suddenly realised it was no longer on my finger. I can't believe I didn't notice it disappear & I have absolutely no idea where it came off. I was absolutely heart broken as it had been on my finger for 39 years & was a beautiful sapphire & diamond cluster. I did all I could to find it but eventually gave up and had a new ring made, totally different to the engagement ring. It's very pretty but just a ring, it has no particular meaning. The annoying thing was, I knew my ring was loose & had been intending to get it made smaller at the jeweller's - let that be a warning to anyone who's putting off taking theirs!

Yes I wear my Mum’s

Petalpop Fri 04-Feb-22 16:32:19

No. I only wear my wedding ring. My engagement ring is in a box somewhere or other. I am not one for jewellery of any kind.

Deedaa Fri 04-Feb-22 16:35:31

I've got one that has the jewels only going halfway round it. Platinum with sapphires and diamonds. My father gave it to my mother for their Silver Wedding. I always wear it with my wedding ring.

Never had an engagement ring or an eternity ring. I do have a rather nice 'knuckle duster' of a diamond ring, which belonged to my mil, which comes out on high days and holidays.

I used to wear an eternity ring which was particularly precious as DH bought it for me not long before he died. Sadly, I had to get it cut off in A&E when I suffered a nasty fall along with my wedding ring. Now that the swelling has gone down properly I'd like to get it repaired if it's possible.

I had to have my wedding ring rebuilt! A few years ago I fell and damaged my shoulder. The nurse had to cut the ring off as my hand had become swollen. When everything had settled down I spoke to my local jeweller about rebuilding it. Well, he did. He melted it down, added a bit more gold and made a new ring. It wasn’t cheap and is beautiful.

I had an engagement ring - wore it 24/7 for 15 years. Lost down a drain while cleaning the car. And a gold band wedding ring - also wore it 24/7 for 31 years - then 'a bit of drama' - could not wear it - it actually felt as if it burnt my finger. Anyway there were some major life changes and I never did go back to wearing a ring. Still married but happier without something that marks me out as 'owned' in some way - reminds me to stand on my own 2 feet. - Literally NOBODY alive today knows this. Isn't it odd the 'meaning of things'.

Interesting. But the rings fit perfectly otherwise I wouldn't wear them on a different finger.

I always wear my diamond eternity ring that my lovely late husband bought me when we had been married 7 yrs. My engagement ring doesn't get worn so often as it tends to catch on things like gloves. We couldn't have any children but when we adopted I got a diamond necklace followed by a diamond cluster ring a couple of years later (we adopted two children). He was brilliant at choosing jewellery and even designed the setting for some beautiful opals he bought me. Each piece of jewellery he gave me is precious beyond its monetary value. Miss him loads.

Nanna58 Fri 04-Feb-22 20:20:29

Never worn either an engagement or wedding ring, like sandelf think the marking out as being married in this way antiquated and unnecessary, I know I’ve been married for 42 years as does Mr C .

Georgesgran Fri 04-Feb-22 21:37:36

I’m not sentimental about my rings. Engaged in ‘71 with a sapphire and diamond cluster, then married in ‘72 with a very wide gold band. Fashions changed and I replaced the gold band with a narrow one and I got a trilogy diamond ring to replace the sapphire.
I then decided I preferred white metal, so another wedding ring and a diamond and emerald engagement ring followed.
In 2005 we went on a Nile cruise and I didn’t want to take my emerald, but wanted something a bit sparkly, so bought myself a white gold 5 stone eternity ring, which I’ve worn ever since as a wedding ring.
I’m very fond of jewellery and my DDs will inherit it.

Out of interest, do your husband’s wear a wedding ring? Maybe a new thread.

harrigran Fri 04-Feb-22 23:19:26

Yes I wear an eternity ring often especially if I want to wear gloves as all my other rings are too bulky for leather gloves.

I love my diamond eternity ring (which I chose myself after about 15 years wed & 2 children) and wear it every day. I used to wear my wedding, engagement & eternity rings together, but after a finger infection had to stop wearing them for a month or so, & after that discovered I didn’t like multiple rings on my finger anymore so the eternity ring (being my favourite) was chosen & the others are still in my china ring dish on the bedside table!
I’d always wanted an emerald ring & DH gave me the money to choose my own 3 years ago for our 30th anniversary, I wear it all the time on my right hand, it’s the engagement ring I’d have liked but we couldn’t afford 35 years ago!

00mam00 Sat 05-Feb-22 11:05:51

I had my engagement ring widened 10 years ago, I cannot remember how much it cost but it’s worth you ladies with ‘fat’ fingers enquiring at a local jewellers.

I do not wear a wedding ring and only occasionally my engagement ring. I have an eternity ring, but the cheapest one OH could find when pushed to buy one.

LOUISA1523 Sat 05-Feb-22 13:06:55

Yes....its 18c gold with 5 diamonds ....I still love it after 23 years of wearing it....we've been together 36 years but not married ....no engagement or wedding rings
