Aldi Or Lidl! Which do you prefer?

Ask away merylstreep! They might have been around for a long long time but when I’ve got Sainsbury’s Tesco Morrison’s Asda very close I’ve been using these

I can walk to Aldi and Lidl. I tend to go to Lidl as the staff who work there are lovely plus they quickly open another till if a queue forms. Aldi seems to have more choice admittedly.

Lidl, Aldi is much further away.

My home town has a smallish Lidl, and there is an Aldi a drive away. I don't drive, so use the Lidl more, but the localish Aldi is a lot bigger, so has a bigger range, particularly in the 'aisle of dreams' .

Having said that, the bakery products at Lidl are much better than Aldi, and their frozen and chilled foods are more varied. That may be because of the immediate catchment areas - the nearest Aldi is in a poorer town - but Aldi seems to have lots of chips, potato products and assorted pizzas, whereas Lidl have foods from a different country each week or so.

If the local Lidl were bigger I would love it, and would definitely make it my regular supermarket if they delivered.

I use Aldi every week and find their fruit and veg keeps very well. I find most things i need in there and although we have a Lidl as well i won't venture there because of the bakery. The smell is so tantalising as you walk in the door!!!!! [smell]

We have two branches of Lidl, one small branch close by and the other larger one within a short drive but Aldi is much further away. I shop in either Lidl regularly for everything except Oatibix and occasionally they stock that for 50pence less than in Asda.

I like all their products, especially their seeded wholemeal bread. Today, after a hospital appointment, I treated myself to a pastry, pastel de nata, first sampled in Lisbon. Yum! Their staff are always friendly and they speak positively about their favourable working conditions in terms of pay, sick pay and pension schemes. Cash back is available, too, which I prefer to hole in the wall withdrawals.

Both are near me but I think I prefer the quality of the meat, vegetables and fruit at Aldi. Lidl bakery aisle is definitely superior but I buy my bread from a bakery so that's not a big enough pull for me. The "aisles of s***e" in both stores are excellent and I've had some smashing bargains from them both.

We had a high street Lidl long before a non-high street Aldi was built just a mile away. I use Lidl for some items, Aldi has captured me for other things especially their look alike Lurpack butter, but Sainsbury's and M&S still feature every week. Both have some good bargains in the middle aisles, I got a great stove top steamer from Lidl which was better quality and much cheaper than I could get from John Lewis etc and they honour their 2 year guarantee without question. DH had their own brand dremel look alike tool which broke after 22 months. Emailed them with a scan of the original receipt and a complete replacement set was dispatched that same day. That's service!

Usually Aldi, though we have both. Food is good quality, I can get a full shop there and like the middle aisles . They pay theirstaff more than most and close over Christmas/ nye and other bank holidays.

I do most of my weekly shop at Aldi and prefer it to Lidl. The staff at our local Aldi are always extremely pleasant. Even though they whizz you through the checkout they still find the time to smile and offer help if needed.
I love the aisle of dreams,the"wonky"fruit and veg and the fish ( 2 seabass fillets for £2.69!) Apparently, the layout is the same in every Aldi store so even if you've never visited a particular store before you will still know where everything is.

Forgot to mention the flowers! Aldi's flowers are generally very good, very reasonably priced and last for ages. I bought a mixed bunch (£6.99) three weeks ago. I've thrown out a few dead ones but still have enough to fill a small vase.

Well in 1 direction we have both Aldi and Lidl and in the other just Aldi.

I much prefer Aldi meat than Asda, did a beef stew buying the meat from both supermarkets and the beef from Asda was like old boots.

I have heard good feedback from Lidl but only bobbed in for a few bits and bobs.

Same here Chewbacca and I find a lot more choice in Aldi.

We have 2 Aldis nearby. I’ve shopped in both and say every time “ never again”. May be good prices but not enough choice for me I’m afraid.

If only they would deliver!

We have both within walking distance and I love them both. We have a brand new large Lidl. They probably have the edge due to the bakery. Also you can buy loose fruit and veg. Not everything is pre packed. Both shops have started to sell branded goods too.

I'm sure I read somewhere that one of them was trialling delivery in certain areas.

We have nothing within walking distance except a very tired Coop. The nearest Lidl is a 20 min. drive away and I love a good old rummage there. DH loved the apple turnovers but they seem not to do them anymore. I buy the low GI bread.

We don't get to either very often as they're a drive away in opposite directions.
We go more often to Lidl but a new Aldi opened and seemed very good (they sell delicious Welsh yogurt).

Of course, they're not always cheaper because of their middle aisles!

Sandelf I bought a sewing machine too as well as a new smart TV before Christmas, and computer. All have 3 year no quibble guarantee and have been very pleased with these big buys.
