Reminds me: years back I was in our local supermarket and accidentally knocked a couple of tins of tuna onto the floor. Picked them up and put them back. There was nobody around.
Suddently, a voice boomed over the loudspeaker "Mrs. S... is kindly requested to NOT destroy the whole supermarket!" I was mortified for a moment then realised the voice belonged to the manager - an ex-student of mine having a bit of fun!

Goodness WWmk2 you did have a smashing time! Oh heck. I’d not have known where to look! It reminds me of that old tv programme ‘Candid Camera’ that I used to love. Bet everyone round you got up very carefully from their tables after you’d left.

Sorry!

Hope you weren't hurt, Whitewave

Nor you, Chewbacca

Oh no! I bet they will be checking all their tables for stability or weaknesses! At least it was while you are on your way out.

We once were on vacation at an all inclusive resort; there was a fancy New Year's dinner out under white tents. During the day it had rained, so there was some pooled water in the canvas. I think you can guess what happened. A big gust of wind, and a huge sploosh of water landed on top on my head! Soaked to the skin. Everyone gasped. Luckily we laughed it off, asked the waiters to save us a good seat and went back to change and re-do hair and makeup.

That is something I would do I am so heavy handed like a bull in a China shop everywhere I go. At least you and your daughter enjoyed your chat and time together.

Chewbacca you were very fortunate not to be injured.

It must have been the day for accidental demolitions! I went to a garden centre this afternoon to buy some seed potatoes. They had a large tiered stand with a different variety of potato on each tier. I picked up one bag of Charlotte's off the 2nd tier and the whole stand collapsed! There must have been around 200 bags of seed potatoes in a heap on the floor. The sound of crashing shelves brought everyone to a standstill. And I still don't know how I could have avoided causing such carnage!

At least you got the leftovers before the disaster happened! Obviously they have very flimsy furniture.

I would have probably have gone into heart failure!

Hope they gave you a voucher for another tea on a very stable table!

Oh dear but at least you had a lovely afternoon and the staff were kind. Probably one you won’t forget in a hurry though!

TheOtherCatsMother Sun 06-Feb-22 18:21:34

You will remember that long after the tea has faded.

Afternoon calamitea.
Glad you’d enjoyed it all before the table folded.

That's the type of thing that would happen to me, you a will never forget it? but it could have been worse it could have happened before you ate or it could have ended up in your laps.

Yes I was so lucky as all the sugar (bit weird) ended up in my chair

SachaMac Sun 06-Feb-22 18:06:37

Oh no what an end to a lovely afternoon. I hope they gave you some more nice treats to take home smile

Josieann Sun 06-Feb-22 17:58:09

Embarrassing! grin
Is it the day for cream teas today? Lots of people eating them in the open air café on the seafront.

Afternoon tea with daughter in a rather nice country club in the middle is Sussex.

Sat by a log fire and enjoyed our chat. Bill was paid and the left overs loaded into boxes for respective husbands.

I stood up and in doing so pressed on the table which folded like a pack of cards?. Every single thing fell onto the floor including teapot, water jug. Tiered plates etc. jam and clotted cream everywhere and stuff smashed.

The whole restaurant became totally silent. ??.

Staff were excellent though and very kind.
