What do you do in the evenings? I've listened to some music, then had a shower, done my roots grin, taken my nail polish off and put a different colour on. Roll on the warm weather and light evenings........

Tonight we are going to a gig at Otley Courthouse. Yippee!!!
Thursday night was choir. .
Wednesday night was local council planning meeting so it has been a busy week.
Usually it is daytime stuff and evenings either reading, writing, watching tv after our meal finishes approx 8pm.

Came home yesterday after an overnight visit to Bradford where we saw The Dresser at the Alhambra theatre. Julian Clary as Norman, the dresser, Matthew Kelly as Sir. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it was lovely being back in a theatre again - although sadly it was far from a full house.
Ate a pear and some cheese, drank a hot Bovril - hoping to make up for the over-eating on out trip away. Went to bed, read a bit then slept like a log.

We ate salted caramel florentines from the Fortnum & Mason hamper that our DD in America sent us for Christmas. (We're more used to buying our biscuits from Asda or Aldi, so anything from F&M is a novelty!)

Then we watched several episodes of "This Is Going To Hurt", a BBC series about a young doctor on overworked, understaffed and underfunded Obstetrics and Gynaecology wards. (Or, as the main character says, "brats and twats".) It is funny, brutal and compassionate, and Ben Wishaw was excellent in the lead role. It's an insight into the world of exhausted NHS medical staff.

I am afraid that I usually spend my evenings on the sofa, either reading or trying to find something worth watching on TV. Sometimes it does feel like a waste of time but, every now and then, you come across something excellent amongst the rubbish.

Spent some time sorting out some of the muddle and disruption where we have been needing to visit long neglected nooks and crannies of the house because of an invasion of mice, including in the attic - back to the same today. Then dinner (casserole chucked into the slow cooker earlier). The other half then disappeared upstairs onto his computer game, I played the piano for a couple of hours, then wasted some time on the Internet including Wordle, then bed. Exciting? No!

It was our, husband, me and adult son’s, games night last night. We played trivial pursuit and a few card games. It has kept us sane throughout lockdowns.
4allweknow don’t despair, I’ve been on palliative care for the last 7 years!! Finished my last lot of chemo in May and now I have a full head of hair again, just need fingernails to grow properly.

I walked the dog, had a shower and then into PJs. My friend phoned for a chat for nearly an hour and then I watched bit of TV before heading to bed to read. Exciting life I lead. Roll on the lighter nights to give me my 'Oomph' back.

We had a lively afternoon which included DH aged 81 insisting on going up a ladder to clear some guttering - this equates to a heart-attack-in-waiting for me so that was quite exciting! Dinner was "freezer fish & chips" which is Tesco's Chunky Breaded Haddock with McCain's Crinkle-cut Chips and Tesco's Finest Petit Pois, (the one meal a week I don't cook from scratch if you were worrying that I neglect DH).

We watched Mr. Portillo's Coastal Railway Journey thingy, then the last two episodes of the first series of "Mistresses", which we are very much enjoying on BBC i-player. Lots of gorgeous clothes, lips, eyes, men, cake, those huge glasses of wine that only seem to appear on TV ....

Then off to the marital bed where we settled in perfect harmony to read our books. All very enjoyable really (apart from the ladder/gutter scenario of course!).

I'm working my way through a book my DDil bought me. It's about a 19thC German polymath called Humboldt. I try to read a chapter before I go to sleep at night. I'm struggling... I think my DDiL thinks I'm more intellectual than I actually am.

Last night we went to watch DGD in the Baslow Village Panto. So much laughter and great fun.

It was lovely to see a community come together, work hard together, have fun together and give fun and laughter to others, especially after the past couple of years.

I did ask the writer/producer if the Duke of Devonshire knew one of his staff was dressed in a black PVC skirt and pink top in a take off of Queen's "I want to break free" :-) she said it's all part of Panto :-)

PS. Love Cirque du Soleil, seen a couple of there shows and am always in awe of their performances. I'm going to have a look and see if I can find tickets to a show.

Evenings are quite stressful at the moment keeping an eye on the "puppy" (14 months old, so with a full set of adult teeth), as she tries to gnaw her way through skirting boards, kitchen units, carpets and plastic boxes, despite having a whole pet shop full of chew toys. And if she's not chewing she's digging - carpet, garden, bed...you name it!

I'm glad when it's bed time and I can settle her down for a night's sleep!

While I'm cooking and eating, I listen to Radio 4 or 4 Extra till about 9 pm. If there's something on TV I want to watch, will do that from 9-10, or Netflix/Amazon Prime. An hour is usually enough, though, I will split a film into two evenings. (Currently watching The Edge of War on Netflix, very good....)

After that I climb the Wooden Hill and look at things on my tablet, read emails, order stuff online, and do Wordle. Then I read a few chapters of a book. Finally I listen to a podcast on BBC Sounds till I fall asleep (Fortunately or You're Dead to Me are good ones to drift off to....)

MiniMoon, I also watched the King's Man last night with my son. Not as much fun as the Kingsman which has a cameo performance from Elton John... Nice to spend time with my son though.

Usually watching TV with Husband, soaps or catching up on drama’s, maybe watch a film. Always read in bed for an hour or two, helps to wind down and helps to sleep (sometimes) ??

Juicylucy Sat 12-Feb-22 11:41:21

I’ve been jotting down and planning my perennials for this spring, whilst watching Sheridan Smiths new dramas. And setting my sweet pea seeds.

I watched a couple of episodes of Poldark on Netflix in a cold house as the heating failed and I tried at least 10 times without success to reset it. Luckily I had reported it to British Gas a few days earlier when it first started going wrong. A man arrived at 8 this morning and fixed it. Two hours later it broke down again. The man doesn't want to come out again and said I should get a gasman from where they are changing gas pipes down the road to do it. But as its Saturday they are not working today.

Am I the only one who watches TV and knits?

grandtanteJE65 Sat 12-Feb-22 11:29:51

I usually read in the evenings and sometimes watch TV.

Sometimes catch up with friends and family by text messaging or phone calls.

Grantanow Sat 12-Feb-22 11:19:06

Lit the woodstove, watched Channel 4 News, ate dinner (fish cakes and broccoli), watched 'Desmond's' on Netflix (they couldn't make it now, I suspect), then Newsnight and so to bed to read for 10 minutes.

4allweknow Sat 12-Feb-22 11:10:03

With DH being very vulnerable (palliative chemo) there is no socialising going on other than visit from DS who doesn't live locally. LFTs for two days before he gets in the house. Make sure you enjoy your leasure outings, very precious.

Rozlee Sat 12-Feb-22 11:05:39

All on the one night !!!!! Lol

LuckyFour Sat 12-Feb-22 11:02:20

I went to our local Council meeting as I'm a Parish Counsellor.
Went home and went to bed.
No chocolate, no wine gums, no telly, no fun at all!

GrammarGrandma Sat 12-Feb-22 10:52:40

I just had a bowl of cornflakes for dinner as my husband was out at a concert and I had had a very big and lovely lunch in a pub with friends. So I watched the Channel 4 News then many episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Netflix, which is revision before series 8 starts next month.

I am really, really trying to be positive and upbeat.
now reading what you all do, I am feeling sorry for myself again!

I just watched tv.. snacked a little bit I suppose. had cat on my lap on and off, cos I can`t sit still for long.

read a bit, just a tiny bit.. I hasten to add that I rarely watch tv during the day, though I have it on for comfort.

oh I laughed!! at tv.. now that was a surprise, just shows how strange I have been this last couple of years.. "Last of the Summer Wine" only a few months back i couldn`t watch it...
all change!

Dog sitting our CKC grandog so lots of play and cuddles till he was collected at 10.30. Just love him??. Completed Tesco online order for delivery today, then watched “ The Notebook”. ??. How on earth has this little beauty evaded me for all these years. Loved it !

aggie Sat 12-Feb-22 07:48:17
