When I was a child we had them on Good Friday but now they are in the shops all year round. Funnily enough I stopped myself buying some today as once I get the taste of them I can’t stop. I’ve seen those ones Blondiescot yuk not for me ?
Whenever you like! I've got a turkey crown defrosting at the moment whch was leftover from Xmas, so we're having the family round for a Xmas-style dinner tomorrow! Oh - and just to throw a little controversy into the mix, I had a cheese and Marmite hot cross bun for breakfast this morning - it was delicious!
I've eaten four already (not at the same time) and enjoyed every fruity, spicy mouthful. Toasted with lashings of butter. Mmm. Of course, I should stop when lent begins.
The two weeks around Easter. Much as I love them I think they would lose their appeal if I ate them all year round. And it would be one less thing in life to look forward to.
When I was a child hot cross buns were only eaten on Good Friday. The local bakery would open early for people to come to buy, there was always a queue. These days I might buy and eat them before Easter weekend during Lent but certainly not just after Christmas.
I've just bought my first Hot cross buns this year. My grandmother always insisted they shouldn't be eaten until Easter Sunday. My mother was the same when I was little but she softened as she got older. But it just occurred to me that if things keep going on as they are we will be eating hot cross buns and easter eggs just after Christmas. Not that I think that's bad- but when is the earliest you would have one?
