Is anyone else a little bit anxious about the storm tomorrow?

I don't know why I am because no one around me seems worried.

I've secured all my bins and garden furniture!

NotAGran55 Thu 17-Feb-22 21:28:48

I’m hoping that our customers postpone their orders and that our supplier who is coming Wales also postpones our delivery on us!
I don’t want any drivers ? having to take risks on the rural tree ? lined roads around these parts,

Jaxjacky Thu 17-Feb-22 21:34:47

Both GC’s schools are dithering whether to close or not, Hampshire, Amber, whereas Southampton have made a decision, closing, not helping parents/guardians who’ll have to arrange cover.
We’re prepared as we can be, not rural, no trees close.
Take care all.

I always worry when it's windy as we are surrounded by woodland ???

Josieann Thu 17-Feb-22 21:38:14

I think it's a bit poor of schools not in the red zone to close. Once inside the school the children are usually as safe as anywhere, though break times outside could be cancelled.

Callistemon21 Thu 17-Feb-22 21:44:04

Is it still half-/term in some areas?
I think many areas in the red zone have half-term next week so tomorrow is a day tacked on.

Casdon Thu 17-Feb-22 21:51:02

I assume it’s the children getting to school that’s the issue rather than their safety once they arrive Josieann. The advice is not to leave your house unless essential because of the risk of debris hitting you or your car, and in those circumstances I wouldn’t want to risk my children. I’m worried about my daughter driving to get to work, her car was hit by a pool noodle on the Prince of Wales Bridge as she was driving home tonight, which at least was light.

There is a high spring tide due up the River Severn too tomorrow.
There could be a lot of flooding.

? Stay safe

Cancelled going to visit a friend tomorrow to avoid driving. We are in the amber area. DH battened everything down.

I hope we don’t lose any of the regular birds in our garden that visit every day.

Shinamae Thu 17-Feb-22 22:12:18

I’m in the red zone and on the way to my work in the care home we have a very windy road with lots of trees but have to go to work can’t let people down..

Bellanonna Thu 17-Feb-22 22:24:30

Amber zone but still feeling nervous. I’ve secured all the bins and anything else that might move. According to the Met Office site the storm will peak around midday so I think it will be okay to sleep upstairs. I’m not moving from home tomorrow. It’s half-term for the GC so that’s two journeys saved. Hoping everyone, those in the red zone in particular, will be safe and not suffer any structural damage.

JaneJudge Thu 17-Feb-22 22:26:05

I am. We live on very flat land and tbh I hadn't take it very seriously and have left our garden furniture outdoors etc and now feel like a idiot

Bellanonna Thu 17-Feb-22 22:26:16

Shiname hopefully you’ll be OK in the morning, but there might be debris in the road on your way home. Take care and keep safe.

HettyBetty Thu 17-Feb-22 22:28:42

Amber zone but very near the red zone. We have secured the garden, gathered torches and candles and DH has got the primus stove ready for a morning cup of tea if there is no power.

I am working online, DH is retired. Adult DC and partners are all safe and have made sensible precautions.

Take care everyone.

Shandy57 Thu 17-Feb-22 22:29:09

I've just watched the news Shinamae, take a bag in case you have to stay the night. It's going to be a monster, I think it will be as bad as 87.

LauraNorderr Thu 17-Feb-22 22:33:56

We are battening down the hatches on the west coast of Anglesey. The car and all garden furniture now in the garage. We have enormous 100 year old trees along our border and are quite nervous.
In the 1987 storm we were living in a caravan on the headland while we renovated our house. Just as we dealt the playing cards to amuse the younger boys our eldest son opened the door and the roof of the caravan blew clean off, like sardine can. Playing cards probably landed on the moon and we ended up bedding down with a very kind neighbour.
Hope all of you are okay.

Oldbat1 Thu 17-Feb-22 22:34:52

We’ve only just had our roof repaired after Arwen. Our car still has many dents from the falling roof tiles. Two weekends ago the fence blew down in the storm. This time we are only in yellow area. I still worry about falling trees though. I do hope everyone manages to keeps safe. It is calm here currently.

BigBertha1 Thu 17-Feb-22 22:35:29

I'm in a new build toobut I don't think it's immune from storm damage. Let's hope we are all ok whatever kind of house we live in.

rubysong Thu 17-Feb-22 22:39:03

Amber zone (southeast Cornwall). We have lifted the clothesline out of the ground and moved anything that might blow about. Also parked the car away from the house in case of flying tiles. I have filled a large pan with water and before I go to bed all flasks will be full of boiling water. We've both had showers (just in case we lose water/power). DS2 in California was without power or water for 9 days just after Christmas. We have just had a new fence put up, it would be a shame if it blew away.

lavendermine Thu 17-Feb-22 22:43:33

Be careful Shinamaae when you are on your way to work tomorrow.

My local weather report says snow as well for here tomorrow!

rafichagran Thu 17-Feb-22 22:57:23

Amber zone here, I cant say I am worried at the moment.

Mollygo Thu 17-Feb-22 23:01:02

Yes. We have no trees but we are on the top of a hill near the coast. I saw a house with bricks blown off on the news.
I think I might not walk the dog tomorrow, in case she takes off.
Stay safe everyone.

Kim19 Thu 17-Feb-22 23:06:43

I'm anxious for all those people who are expected to go to work irrespective of awful weather conditions like medical staff, bus, train & lorry drivers. It's all very well doing lip service to everyone to 'stay safe' but how our feathers get ruffled if one of our 'conveniences' goes awry.

GrandmaSeaDragon Thu 17-Feb-22 23:48:00

Our DGC in Hertfordshire and Rutland are all on half term. We have postponed meeting up with DD2 and will do a zoom quiz instead. We have large TPO’d trees in our garden, known to be infected with honey fungus, but not allowed to remove unless actually dead. In the 1987 we were in Surrey and several very large Ash trees fell onto our garden from neighbours, so I am always worried this will happen again, especially as the trees are near the house. Watching tonight’s news, I was surprised how much action is being taken to avoid damage. Let’s hope it turns out not be to as severe as predicted. Hope everyone stays safe and secure.

VioletSky Thu 17-Feb-22 23:49:53

I don't understand either, "don't leave the house unless you have too" isn't in some bosses vocabulary

Thinking of all of you in red. I'm in amber

SpringyChicken Thu 17-Feb-22 23:54:24

I am near the red zone and am slightly concerned that when checking on the BBC weather app, the wind speed forecast for us is higher than places in the red zone. I’m hoping it’s a mistake.
We moved the cars away from the house in case of falling tiles. They will probably be clobbered by dustbins and fence panels instead.
