Hello

I thought that we should have a thread about today’s weather.

Please stay safe everyone; it’s very worrying.

What’s it currently like where you are? x

We were on the edge of the red zone inSWWales. It has been horrendous. No electricity for 8 hrs so heated soup and water etc on the wood burner. Wind has been dreadful. Next door but one had a tree down part of which landed in our drive but no damage. Our windows are covered in salt. You can hardly see out. But it seems to be calming a little now?

The power was off from 11am, now back on. I’m just north of Bath, the wind had died down but it seems to be building up again.
I have to say it’s been nowhere near as bad as we’ve had here before yet apparently we’re in the red zone?
There have been a few hefty gusts but nothing too scary.
I’m back from taking DDog out and there are a couple of houses with panels down and a few odd twigs but it could well be worse nearer the village where there are more trees.
Fingers crossed that’s it! The

Callistemon, I can quite understand that! I don't like flying at the best of times, but heaven help anyone on a plane trying to land somewhere in this country todayshock

Just watched news video of a plane trying to land at Gatwick Airport earlier today. Utterly sickening.?

Callistemon21 Fri 18-Feb-22 15:17:09

Oh yes, it was on the news, lindiann, shock!

North Somerset. Things settled down now compared to earlier. No damage here thankfully. Now the sun is out all my windows are really filthy now.

A small price to pay for being so lucky and grateful for being spared from far, far worse of course.

The A380s make most unnerving noises at the best of times!

fiorentina51 Fri 18-Feb-22 14:54:09

We flew back from New Zealand to Birmingham Airport just over 2 years ago. February 9th and a big breezy welcome home from storm Chiara. The A380 we were in sounded as if it was about to fall apart. The pilot got a round of applause when we touched down!

Been calmish all morning near Cambridge. Lashing rain and variable winds now.

Just glad I'm not flying into Heathrow todayshock

My DB and S-IL were flying back to UK via the Bay of Biscay during that 1987 hurricane (what hurricane?) - it put them off flying for years.

TerriBull Fri 18-Feb-22 14:36:28

Or Gatwick, or Stanstead, in fact most of Britain it all looks wild and windy!

Forgot the photo.

Very windy in Worcestershire at the moment. Flood defences up along the River Severn.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the very large oak tree across the road from my house stays firmly rooted to the place its been for the past 200 years! ?

I’m in Cheshire. Up until about midday we had calm and blue skies as I put some bread scraps out in the garden for the birds. One minute the grass was covered with birds and the next there was a mass exodus as the sky went black. Since then it’s been lashing down and the patio is flooding. The wind is now hurling anything that isn’t fastened down around the garden - including part of my neighbour’s shed roof which blew off about half an hour ago. The neighbour the other side of me has already lost a fence panel. My little, usually fearless, Jack Russell is pacing nervously up and down and looks quite anxious. Stay safe everyone.

Southampton- very windy, has been all morning. Hoping that it may die down over next couple of hours. Have read reports about flooding ,trees down and a roof blowing off a house in the area in local news. Most local schools decided to close.

aonk Fri 18-Feb-22 13:49:38

Sorry. There have been slates flying off the roofs.

aonk Fri 18-Feb-22 13:48:52

An update from the west side of Essex! We have lost 2 trees from our back garden and various fence panels are broken. Our neighbour’s wall had collapsed on top of their car and completely ruined it. Tiles have been flying of the roofs of 2 nearby houses. Several local roads are blocked by falling trees. The roof of a caravan near my DDs house has blown off and landed on a car. There has been very little rain and quite a bit of sunshine.

FannyCornforth Fri 18-Feb-22 13:47:14

Blimey! That’s scary!

The O2 Arena had a bit of a battering!

Crikey. I walked across that roof a few years ago. It seemed quite sturdy uner my weight!!

Two fence panels down here in Colchester, can see one, but the other one disappeared! Pots doing magical dancing up and down, I’d even put bricks in the bigger ones, waste of time that was, the spaniel has just woken up for her walk, opened the back door, she peered outside and has now gone back to bed?
