Anyone else fed up of hitting the mute button every time Steve Wright ruins another song by singing over it. Has he made himself too comfortable in his radio slots. So many times the ‘stand in whilst on holiday’ folk are SO much better than the usual DJ. Jeremy Vine is SO patronising, , oh dear, I moan on…

Agree Nan dad. Have smooth on everyday but they sometimes can be a bit repetitive. However the presenters are lovely. The evening music on smooth is good usually listen to it in the bath. Agree Paul Ogrady would of been fab on countdown the ratings would have gone through the roof.

Trying Boon radio now, but the DJ is a bit annoying. However one more rendition of Adrenalin will see the radio going out the window.

Yes ...... and that We Need to talk about Bruno song...... Grrr.

I really like Ken Bruce, he makes me laugh without being mean. Dislike Steve Wright. I also like Rylan, and in a weird way because she is bonkers, I like Lisa Tarbuck as well. Another good DJ on Radio2 is Craig Charles, but he’s on too late for me.

Mapleleaf Sun 20-Feb-22 11:05:30

I don’t listen to R2 very often. I like Ken Bruce if he’s on when I switch it on, and Paul O’Grady.

I don’t really listen to any of the others much, but I really can’t stand Jeremy Vine, who I think can be quite rude, biased and patronising and, I’ve noticed, if things don’t go the way he’d like to hear them go, he can be quite aggressively rude, and dismissive of the speaker, so now I don’t even bother with his programme.

I agree with the opinions of Steve Wright, too. He irritates me with his childish banter and prattling on, I’m afraid, so he gets switched off, too. He’s just got one of those voices that gets on my nerves.

We Don't Talk About Bruno!

I have to own up to rather liking that song. And the film. In fact my husband and I were left watching it when our 2 young granddaughters decided they'd had enough of and moved on to do some crafting!

Jane43 Sun 20-Feb-22 13:30:10

Ken Bruce is the only one we listen to. We used to love Johnny Walker, very knowledgable about music, truly interested in his guests and never made it all about himself.

Iam64 Sun 20-Feb-22 14:19:29

Johnny Walker on Sunday afternoon is a joy. I can tolerate Steve Wright , can’t stand Jeremy Vine he’s a patronising idiot who disrespects anyone who phones in. Zoe Ball - awful

Ken Bruce referred to Adrenalin as "Benylin" once. That's all I hear now!

The lady on Jeremy's radio show has been excellent this week. I wish she was on all the time.

Grandmadinosaur Sun 20-Feb-22 15:12:06

I never listen to Jeremy Vine but agree Tina Dahely is a big improvement. Please give her the job full time.
I was a big fan of Zoe Ball from her Strictly days but is a turn off for me. I can’t stand the guy who does the travel. He is obviously hankering after a job full time. He was at uni where my son was and we could tell a few things.
Gary Davies this week has been great standing in for her as is the woman who covers for her over Christmas I can’t remember her name - she was a presenter on Pop Idol?
I don’t mind Ken Bruce but like you Urms I turn off for Popmaster.
Can’t stand Steve Wright either.
I like Craig Charles late on Sat evenings and he has just been given a new show Mon - Fri on Radio 6 1-4.

They have also done away with a lot of niche type programmes that were on in the evenings ie Claire Teal, Bill Kenwright, Friday night is music night etc. Not too keen on the replacement shows.
I’m not quite sure who the target market is nowadays.

Soozikinzi Sun 20-Feb-22 15:22:12

Another fan of Ken Bruce and pop master .I also like Paul O'grady and Liza tarbuck is so funny . Steve Wright does seem to get stuck on the same joke and Zoe Ball does prattle on .

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 20-Feb-22 15:25:14

I never listen to Radio 2. I have Radio 6 on most of the time. Mainly intelligent DJs, men and women and I love that they play oudles of Led Zeppelin and other progressive rock.

chelseababy Sun 20-Feb-22 19:51:32

Virgin Radio on Saturday and Sunday 9.30 to 12.30 is Graham Norton which I enjoy.

62Granny Sun 20-Feb-22 20:06:22

I listen to smooth radio at breakfast time, greatest hits radio at lunch time but ask Alexa to play an artist in the evening also have Gold radio on in the car. I only listen for about an hour at a time so don't get too fed up with the presenters. Favourite presenter is Simon Mayo on greatest hits on a Sunday. Just the right a amount of chat without it being boring or nonsense.

Lilypops Sun 20-Feb-22 20:06:51

Tizliz. Don’t be put off listening to Boom radio by the Sunday dj. All the others in the week are much better and calmer , I agree the Sunday dj is so irritating ,and thinks he,s really funny

Bignanny2 Sun 20-Feb-22 20:19:32

I just can’t stand female presenters voices on the radio, I don’t know what it is but they all seem to make me cringe! I like Ken Bruce and love Tony Blackburns 60s show on Saturday morning .

nandad you should try Boom.
It’s really eclectic.
I thought that it would just be sixties stuff but it’s not.
They play some really varied and unusual things.
I haven’t heard anyone say that they don’t like it.

Is it free to air?

Granmarderby10 Sun 20-Feb-22 23:58:04

I need to know about Boom: how do I get it? ?

Purplepixie Mon 21-Feb-22 01:11:21

I know what you mean. I much prefer Gary Davis when he takes over from people and I wish Craig Charles had a permanent day time slot as his music is so good.

I also never switch the radio on on a Sunday - Michael Ball loves himself toooooo much and Elaine Paige is so boring!

Infact I miss Terry Wogan so much.

NanKate Mon 21-Feb-22 01:59:05

This thread has made me realise I no longer listen to radio music programmes because I can’t stand to hear Steve Wright’s slovenly accent and Zoe Ball’s hyper performance.

I do love Tony B and his inoffensive humour.

I too miss Terry Wogan. We seem to have lost that quality of presenter. I used to enjoy listening to the late John Peel. His son was presenting a programme about his dad thus week. I must see if I can find it on BBC Sounds (and I think that is a silly name too).

I must try and get back to sleep.

Pepper59 Mon 21-Feb-22 02:15:20

Where or what is Boom radio? Yes, Paul O Grady is a big miss. I listen to Classic FM, Gold,Smooth,Planet Rock as I love Alice Cooper's show. I listen to Grant Stott's Vinyl Hour on Friday nights sometimes on Radio Scotland and Radio Nan Gaidheal. I cannot speak Gaelic but some of the music is really good on the channel. I though Radio 1 was for the young people, so why do they need Radio 2 as well?

FannyCornforth Mon 21-Feb-22 05:03:12

Hello
Boom is on DAB.
You will probably need to do a rescan on your DAB Radio to get it.
It has a website.
It’s owned by Sky which is why I think that the quality is so good.
I agree with the pp about Boom presenters - you don’t even notice a lot of them.

Radio 1 is for teenagers and under thirties. I think that I stopped listening to Radio 1 when I was about 25.
Radio 2 for 30s, 40s and 50s.
That’s how their reckoning goes, I’m sure.
When you get to 55 you’re on your own!

MayBee70 Mon 21-Feb-22 09:27:17

I used to listen to R6. John Peels son Tom Ravenscroft is a favourite of mine. For some reason though have preferred listening to BBC Sounds rather than music.

Oldnproud Mon 21-Feb-22 10:28:01

Steve Wright used to drive me absolutely mad because every time he read our a listener's message (dozens in each show), it would include their praise of his show, along the lines of "brilliant show, Steve".
It used to make me cringe.

It dawned on me recently that he doesn't do it any more.

I don't know when he stopped, but I did send in a tongue-in-cheek message a couple of years ago, in which I added the obligatory praise of his show but added that I had realized he wouldn't read it out without it - something like that, anyway, though I can't remember exactly what.

With hindsight, I wonder if that is when he stopped doing it! grin

I like Ken Bruce, but am not keen on a lot of the music that he plays nowadays.

Jeremy Vine doesn't bother me on his show, but when he tries to be funny at other times that leaves me cold.

I can't abide Craig Charles' music (sorry Purplepixie).

Elaine Paige - no thank you. The less said the better.

Johnny Walker - OK, but it's the 70s music I tune in for.

I never tune in to radio 2 later than 5pm, so can't comment on
the DJs who are on after that.

I still miss Terry Wogan. He was so funny, and seemed like a genuinely nice guy.
