Anyone else fed up of hitting the mute button every time Steve Wright ruins another song by singing over it. Has he made himself too comfortable in his radio slots. So many times the ‘stand in whilst on holiday’ folk are SO much better than the usual DJ. Jeremy Vine is SO patronising, , oh dear, I moan on…

I know what you mean, now it’s Boom radio for me .

Harris27 Sun 20-Feb-22 09:20:27

Yes I’ve found boom radio too. Paul Grady has been turfed for 12 weeks too. Like Johnnie Walker on a Sunday hope they keep him.

Millie22 Sun 20-Feb-22 09:21:02

The lady on Jeremy's radio show has been excellent this week. I wish she was on all the time.

Harris27 Sun 20-Feb-22 09:23:37

Used to love terry wogan he got me up and off to work every morning.

Urmstongran Sun 20-Feb-22 09:28:50

I can’t bear to listen to Steve (lovin’ the show) Wright. He’s my age. Coming up for 68y this summer. He’s a bit too smug for my liking. That said I like Ken Bruce. Lovely voice, kind interactions. However unlike my brother in law and his wife I can’t stand ‘Popmeister’. They tune in EVERY morning. I switch off & put Alexa onto something then!

I'm with you Harris27. Would hate to lose Johny Walker on a Sunday, and will miss Paul O'Grady. I'm not a fan of Steve Wright so wouldn't miss him.
Why does the BBC need to get rid of the older presenters?
I miss their chat and also the music the play. Leave the headbanging (c)rap (Terry Wogan used to say it was rap with a silent C) [GRIN] for the other music channels.

FannyCornforth Sun 20-Feb-22 09:35:08

I’m amazed that no one has mentioned the dreadful Zoe Ball yet.
Ken Bruce was the rightful heir to the breakfast show; but unfortunately he’s too ‘male, pale and stale’

Poppyred Sun 20-Feb-22 09:37:58

I love Steve Wright! Don’t like Ken Bruce or Jeremy Vine and as for Elaine Paige on Sundays………

FannyCornforth Sun 20-Feb-22 09:38:32

I reckon that Steve Wright knows where the bodies are buried, or that someone high up at the Beeb feels sorry for him.
I’ve read that he absolutely lives for the show.
He also scripts it and plans it to the minute. You’d never guess.
And the mighty Ken Bruce just wings it!
I read this in an article all about the Radio 2 presenters, it was a sort of ‘day in the life’ thing

Jaxjacky Sun 20-Feb-22 09:39:57

I much prefer Tina Daheley and especially Chris Mason standing in for Jeremy Vine, I find Jeremy very insincere, almost patronising.

The lady on Jeremy's radio show has been excellent this week. I wish she was on all the time.

Was it Vanessa Feltz?
I think that she’s underrated.
And if you look up the word underrated in the dictionary, you will see a picture of Liza Tarbuck.
Liza or Paul O’Grady (or both ?) should have got Countdown, instead of the blooming awful Anne Robinson

FannyCornforth Sun 20-Feb-22 09:43:23

Jeremy is awful.
I remember once that he said that he was a better radio journalist than Nicky Campbell!
The arrogance of the man!

Tina49 Sun 20-Feb-22 09:49:34

Bring back Simon Mayo!

nandad Sun 20-Feb-22 10:15:40

I dislike all of the female presenters, Elaine Paige’s awful fake giggle drives me crazy. I do like the Jeremy Vine stand in though, don’t like him.
I’ve found in the past year or so that I only listen to Ken Bruce and Paul O’Grady preferring Smooth Radio instead but that doesn’t play any current stuff so I end up feeling like I’ve lost touch.

It's been said that Ken Bruce is the last remaining grown-up on Radio 2. I tune in to him each morning as he is the best and I love PopMaster.

I feel R2 is suffering as a whole as they try to reel in younger listeners at the expense of we oldies. We very rarely hear Ella Fitzgerald or Johnny Mathis these days which is a shame.

I often wonder why Steve Wright is on Monday-Friday and Sunday Mornings - as a PP has said, he probably knows where the bodies are buried. It seems that he made the transition from R1 to R2 because he's kept his nose clean.

FannyCornforth Sun 20-Feb-22 10:23:53

nandad you should try Boom.
It’s really eclectic.
I thought that it would just be sixties stuff but it’s not.
They play some really varied and unusual things.
I haven’t heard anyone say that they don’t like it.

Annie26 Sun 20-Feb-22 10:24:33

Since discovering Boom Radio I no longer listen to Radio 2 apart from Sound of the Sixties

Jaxjacky Sun 20-Feb-22 10:31:23

Think it was Tina Fanny coveting for Jeremy last week.

Jaxjacky Sun 20-Feb-22 10:31:55

Oops, Freudian slip maybe, covering!

FannyCornforth Sun 20-Feb-22 10:34:00

Thank you Jacky!
I hardly listen to Radio 2 now.
I prefer speech radio, but when I want music I listen to Boom.

Sparklefizz Sun 20-Feb-22 10:37:51

I can't stand Steve Wright and have to turn him off, although I do stomach him for Sunday Morning Love Songs.

Tina Dahili (sp?) stood in for Jeremy Vine and she was great. JV is so patronising and I hate his "sympathetic voice". I have never liked him since I saw him simpering on Strictly.

I also don't like starting the morning with Zoe Ball babbling away.

In fact, reading my post back the only one I like is Ken Bruce! smile

Sparklefizz Sun 20-Feb-22 10:39:15

Oh yes, I'd forgotten Sound of the Sixties on Saturdays, which I love, and also Paul Gambaccini at 1pm on Saturday afternoons.

lixy Sun 20-Feb-22 10:40:07

Another vote for Tina Dahely here, she's been super and feels genuine as opposed to the slippery Vine.

Zoe Ball drives me nuts. Have yet to hear an interview where she lets the person talk about themselves instead of making it all about herself - and I'm sad about that as I used to enjoy it when she 'sat in' in the mornings about 10 years ago.

Radio 2 doesn't get switched on here on Sundays - Michael Ball, Elaine Paige... no thanks.
But then I have Radio 4 on most of the time....!

Tizliz Sun 20-Feb-22 10:40:11

Trying Boon radio now, but the DJ is a bit annoying. However one more rendition of Adrenalin will see the radio going out the window.
