The Nextdoor App - thoughts? ?

Hello
Yesterday I downloaded the Nextdoor app, and did all the necessary doings.

It’s not the first time I’ve done it; the previous time it mildly freaked me out and I deleted it.

I feel quite uncomfortable with my full name being on show; and I’ve been inundated by men (only men) wanting to ‘connect’.

I’ve had a pleasant chat with a lady regarding my need for a cleaner, so that’s one positive.

What are your experiences with Nextdoor?
Thank you smilebrew

I haven’t had any problems - and don’t believe that my phone number is visible anywhere. Been involved in some heated discussions (fireworks was one) but mostly people are respectful and it does feel more local than Facebook etc.

I've been on NextDoor for quite a while - with no problems at all. I used my middle name and it shows my area, not my address or street. It has useful information about local crime (burglaries, car thefts etc.) and events. During the pandemic, local people offered to get shopping and offer help to anyone in need. There was a really handy local map of where they were, too.

I've been using Nextdoor for over 2yrs now and I've got nothing but praise for the lovely people in my local area.
I list all electricity for almost a month over xmas and new year 2019/20, put out a request for suggestions about what it might have been caused by and had actual physical help from a lovely electrician (free of charge).
I've given and received advice, heard about things happening locally and was able to put the word out when my car was broken into.
There are the occasional few threads where arguments ensue between posters but like any other social media platform, you can just not get involved in specific threads.

Ours is very informative, no problems at all.

My local ND displays my address and number, the minor problem being it is my neighbour's number!

At present two of us are trying to get it across that ND is not a rescue centre for cats, puppies or rabbits and to go to the relevant agencies if for any reason they can no longer care for them.

My local is not well run and if one sees a tradesman's number etc. one should make a note there and then because it will be impossible to find.
