I can't stop watching the news on TV or listening to it on the radio and it is scaring me so much. Those poor women and children who are now refugees. Now Putin is talking about nuclear forces to be on alert!!! I am so scared for the world. I keep crying thinking of how would my grand daughters and my baby grt GD cope if it was them forced to leave home. How is it affecting you??

Sometimes as older women we just need determination. . This is a photo of an older woman travelling in the Moscow underground, dressed in Ukrainian colours.

Quiet resistance.

My mother always used to say that were lucky never to have been in one of those long lines of people (refugees). My daughter-in-law’s mother came from a family of Polish refugees fleeing Stalin.

I just wish they’d stop wheeling out all these so called experts on tv. Various supposedly knowledgeable pundits expressed the view that he wouldn’t invade and he did. I’ve just heard another couple stating this nuclear threat is a distraction and he won’t follow it through. I’m hoping they’re right this time because it doesn’t bear thinking about what will happen if they’re wrong.

I agree Merlot the courage of the Ukranian people is breathtaking.
Also brave Russians out protesting in the streets about Putin's actions.
Just heard that UEFA is allowing Russia to play football in the world Cup if they play under a different name, pathetic semantics. The Polish team said they won't play against the Russians whatever they call themselves.

Nobody should be prepared to play against Russia

Most countries will follow Poland's decision. UEFA don't have the guts to take a stand against Russia. They receive too many backhanders from that direction.

travelsafar, try and live in the moment, in your world. Listen to music and keep positive. Don`t let these horrors, emitting from putin and his cohorts, affect your psychology. Don`t let those words and deeds beat you down. Carry on doing nice things with the children and grandchildren and avoid the news. Whatever happens, whatever is said, watch nature, it carries on through its cycle, buds open, plants grow. Life carries on

An inspiring photograph Whitewave.
I hope many Russian people follow her lead. They must be as frightened as the rest of the world and need to brave to take down Putin.
I have little knowledge of how world banks work. What is to stop Putin moving his assets through Belarus or China? Hoping for an answer from those of you who know more than I do.

Absolutely!

Well I have always admired Putin but not now. He has turned out to be a violent thug and crazily unpredictable. Once a KGB man, always a KGB man it seems. Is he connected by DNA with the mad Ras Putin? Makes you wonder.

Smileless2012 Mon 28-Feb-22 10:47:52

I hope no team will play them then there's no point in them taking part is there.

Calming words Craftyone thanks!

nanna8 I have always admired Putin

I am sorry my mind boggles. He is and always has been an ex KGB operative. From the start his regime has been repressive and violent. He took what was an incipiently democratic state back to being a state where all opposition is banned stifled or, preferably, killed. He has pursued those who escape his anger in Russia into their country of refuge and set out to kill them.

He has allowed his gangster friends build up huge fortunes by curruption, the term 'Russian Oligarch' is automatically lables someone as corrupt and dishonest. he has done nothing to improve the economic conditions of the ordinary people of Russia.

What is it about him that you so admired until recently and why his perfectly in character acttions in recent days changed your mind.

MerylStreep Mon 28-Feb-22 11:59:04

Nanna8
Can I ask how your admiration of Putin squares with your Christian beliefs.

maddyone Mon 28-Feb-22 12:02:44

How can anyone admire a man who sent people to murder someone in a London hotel with Polonium in a cup of tea? Or sent people to attempt to murder two people living in a market town in England with the nerve agent Novichok, which caused them severe illness and killed an innocent English woman in the process? If this had happened in Australia, I think you might had held a different view!

A map for Putin. He obviously needs it

Post menopause I don’t seem to cry as much as I used to. But have found myself waking up crying for the past few days. I try to take a break from Sky News and listen to my favourite podcasts. Current favourite being My Teenage Diaries on BBC Sounds: real laugh out loud stuff. There are three at the moment, previous series seem to be on audible which I still don’t have. It just gives me a bit of a break from all the terrible things happening. I try to think that I’ve worried about so many things over the years (mainly since I had my children) but I’m still here. I still find it hard to believe we’re in this situation though. Felt the same about the pandemic so I seem to be in a seamless mode of scarcely believing what is going on: it’s almost surreal.

Let’s hope it’s the euro fighter because Russia have no answer to these. They will take out those convoys.
How does this square with nato.

nanna8 - what planet have you been living on? Always admired Putin - lord preserve us!

MerylStreep Mon 28-Feb-22 12:27:24

I see that HMS defender has just left Portsmouth.

DiscoDancer1975 Mon 28-Feb-22 12:30:09

We are praying, but are not worried. The Russians themselves are demonstrating ( unheard of in Russia), and his Generals didn’t look happy in the news we saw.

He is just one man....his Country will turn against him. ?

sodapop Mon 28-Feb-22 12:31:32

Excellent news Whitewavemark2 support at last for the Ukranian people.

MerylStreep Mon 28-Feb-22 12:32:37

Re my post on HMS Defender. The spinnaker tower is lit up in the Ukraine colours ????

sodapop Mon 28-Feb-22 12:42:04

No mention of EU jets on the news so far.

UEFA should hang their heads in shame Sarnia
