Should Russia be allowed to take part in the Paralympics?

Exactly that really. They were allowed to take part with a positive drug test, but this is much more serious.

I hope formula one stop the Russian drivers and the Russian sponsors teams from competing and stop dithering about

The Russian Grand Prie has also been cancelled.

Starmer says a no-fly zone is not an option, but somehow he's the bad one for warmongering.

At times like these its incumbent on us all to get the facts right.

Bignanny2 Thu 03-Mar-22 11:54:59

I believe they were originally told that they could compete under neutral flags but now they’ve been told that they can’t compete at all. Which is only right. The FA have stopped Russia and Belarus competing in international football games. But I am a big F1 fan and am angry that Nikita Mazepin is still being allowed to race (except at the British GP). And that the Haas team which is funded by Mazepin’s father who is a close friend of Putin are still being aloud to race this season !

Paralympic Committee have changed their minds and Russia and Belarus are no longer allowed to take part. A very good decision.

I see that they have now done a U turn and banned the athletes from Russia. There was more than a hint that there were security issues and that they "could not gaurantee their safety" because of strong sentiments in the olympic village. This may be unfair on the individual athletes who are blameless for the lunitic policies of their government. However there will be a strong stigma attached to being Russian for some time I suspect.

Delene100 Thu 03-Mar-22 12:34:17

No. Ban them from everything. Hopefully, Putin's people will turn against him.

NoddingGanGan Thu 03-Mar-22 12:42:50

Ni, no and a thousand times no!

Happysexagenarian Thu 03-Mar-22 12:43:47

No, definitely not.

LauraNorderr Thu 03-Mar-22 12:44:07

Gwenisgreat1

Definitely not! Unless it's shooting and the target is Putin!!!

Gwen you are naughty but I like you.

WoodLane7 Thu 03-Mar-22 12:44:50

Absolutely no! Much as my heart goes out to the athletes who have trained and trained to end up missing out it would send out all the wrong messages if they were allowed to take part

LauraNorderr Thu 03-Mar-22 12:48:08

I’d like to see all Russians banned from the rest of the world whether it be sport, business or pleasure until Putin is removed one way or another.
Sad for the Russian people but a message to them and the rest of the world that aggression will not be tolerated.

NannyMags Thu 03-Mar-22 13:07:50

Quite simply, No!

NannyMags Thu 03-Mar-22 13:08:47

I completely agree with you.

sodapop Thu 03-Mar-22 13:08:54

I agree about the message this sends out LauraNorder especially to those Russian people who believe Putin's propaganda.

HannahLoisLuke Thu 03-Mar-22 13:11:19

As of today they won’t be. Many athletes from other countries were saying they wouldn’t compete against Russia. Also unrest in the athletes village so the Olympics Committee finally came to its senses.
If they had competed there would probably have been yet another drugs scandal so it’s best they go home.

madeleine45 Thu 03-Mar-22 13:13:45

NO

Lupin Thu 03-Mar-22 13:30:39

No!
I have what is probably a vain hope that the Russian people will turn on Putin. I need to be careful what I wish for, but I hope the Russian military turn on Putin along with the Russian people.
I do not like how Putin does not seem to blink. He has the coldest expression on his face.

rowyn Thu 03-Mar-22 13:54:59

NO!!

NannaFirework Thu 03-Mar-22 13:56:34

Nooooo?

Juicywords Thu 03-Mar-22 14:30:51

No, as it sends the wrong message to Russia.

Also, I believe it was wrong to allow the 15-year-old figure skater Kamila Valieva, who failed a drugs test last month, to continue in the Olympics after her positive test. If you are old enough to be in the Olympics, you are old enough to abide by the rules.

I also wonder if Russian urine tests are accurate, especially as Russia have a habit of continually lying and spreading disinformation.

Grigory Rodchenkov, the former head of Russia's national anti-doping laboratory, the Anti-Doping Center admitted that Russia exchanged clean samples for dirty samples in 2014.

Bravo to the IPC although I feel it was late and they should have banned Russia and Belarus without the pressure from other countries. The same seemed to happen with FIFA and UEFA. Feel for the athletes but this should be done to put pressure on Russia and Belarus as well as 'flicking the switch on' for the regular Russian people.

Nightsky2 Thu 03-Mar-22 15:00:33

Definitely not.

Madashell Thu 03-Mar-22 15:38:22

No. The saddest thing is that the athletes need the games because it’s the only way they get help and support to live with their disabilities.

grandtanteJE65 Thu 03-Mar-22 16:21:58

They have been barred from competing and the same goes for international football.

Quite rightly in my opinion, as all and any sanctions against Russia must be employed to register our disaproval of their invading the Ukraine.

Daisend1 Thu 03-Mar-22 16:29:56

That they would even think about it let alone participate sickens me.
