How are people supposed to make new friends when women are so cliquey and unwelcoming to new people?
This woman might be new to the area.
She may be newly bereaved.
She could be from another country so doesn't have a network of old friends to fall back on
Yes it can change the dynamic a bit, but it can also breath new life into a group when you open up to new people.

The cast majority do agree. OP seems annoyed that everyone doesn't.

I don’t think the OP started this thread to just generate pages of responses FannyC.

I think she saw it as a genuine ‘dilemma’, and wanted to see if others thought as she did, or not. Sometimes you need to seek others opinions to open your own mind.

In this case, I think the vast majority agree with the OP’s mindset.

Why don't you ask your friend why she asked her friend?

Sounds like that group of mean girls at high school. One of you think that she is lovely so see how it goes. If it doesn't work then she might decide not to be with you.

Why is a group of schoolfriends having a reunion different to a group of old colleagues having a reunion? Genuine question.

It's a group of friends who have a once a year reunion.

No I wouldn't want to attend a school reunion if I didn't attend the school. And if a friend asked could she go with me I would say no, it's only for past pupils.
But I don't see it as quite the same thing as a group of friends.

However I do get the point someone made about not wanting to share personal stuff with someone new.
And on reflection perhaps she should have checked with you.

But I would try to make her feel welcome anyway.

Since it’s that specific hotel she likes… change the hotel and that way she might say she doesn’t want to come…. seems to me you all have something in common… you don’t want her company… and she doesn’t want yours.. it’s the hotel she’s interested in..
