Do you unpack your case on an overnight break?

If you are just staying overnight in a hotel/B&B, do you unpack all of your clothes/shoes into the drawers/cupboards, or do you simply live out of your case?
Arrive at hotel 2 pm, depart 10.00 am the next morning.

I joined a couple for an overnight stay in a hotel, (separate rooms obviously!), they unpacked every single item into drawers and wardrobes. I found this a bit ridiculous.
What do you do in the same situation? x

Why unpack a whole suitcase, ridiculous. Everything I need for an overnight stop is packed at the top of my suitcase - clothes for next day, nightwear, underwear, toiletries, makeup, hairbrush.

It depends upon the circumstances. Generally, I unpack any outfits, stick toiletries in the bathroom, and leave undies and other stuff in the suitcase, using it as a drawer.

Yes to stop my clothes wrinkling and toilet bag goes into the bathroom.

I never use the drawers in hotels or b&bs and only hang coats. Anything which creases stays at home. Shoes and toiletries come out of the bag, everything else stays in rolled, not folded. Underwear in bags. Dirty stuff in another.

This is irrespective of whether the stay is overnight or two weeks. Although I can't remember the last time we stayed two weeks in one place.

i never unpacked my case in 4 years at boarding school.

what is a packing cube?

grandtanteJE65 Mon 07-Mar-22 16:30:22

As I stopped using cases years ago in favour of a back-pack, yes indeed I unpack it entirely, hang clothes up in the wardrobe and put my sponge bath in the bathroom.

Heavy things like my sponge bag and extra shoes are at the bottom of the back-pack, but I would probably unpack even a case or bag.

Just live out the bag on overnight or short trip. Throw bag in room leg (hobble more like) it to the nearest pub.

I'm not sure! Haven't been away for so long. Going away tomorrow for one night so I'll see what comes naturally.

jaylucy Mon 07-Mar-22 16:51:40

I don't tend to for one night beyond hanging up what I intend to wear the next day.
Most of my clothes can be rolled rather than folded so don't really crease and it doesn't matter how many times I check every drawer, wardrobe etc before I leave the room, somehow always leave something behind if I completely unpack!
I stayed in the Crowne Plaza near the NEC onetime and opened the wardrobe door to be met with the sight of a spotlit dummy complete with a dressing gown (if I wanted to wear it during my stay or pay £30 to take it home!) - I have always had a bit of a phobia about shop dummies , so the wardeobe stayed cosed and otherwise empty !

No I live out of my suitcase except for toiletries and coat/jacket. Strangers drawers, no thank you, this is regardless of the length of stay.

sazz1 Mon 07-Mar-22 17:24:26

Yes always unpack even for 1 night
Wash things stay in a wash bag though. Only put out shampoo etc if more than one night

kevincharley Mon 07-Mar-22 17:45:06

I don't even fully unpack on a week away. Waste of time and effort!

kwest my packing cubes were purchased from the big River company
They are cube like bags that are designed to hold toiletries and clothes such as underware t shirts etc.
I pack my underwear in one cube and Dh's in another. same with T shirts , sleepwear.
The cubes fit side by side in suitcase .
On arrival at hotel or caravan
(Grandchildren also have own cubes ) each cube can lifted be out of suitcase and put by bed or left in case.

I hang up anything that needs it and put my toiletbag in bathroom but that's it

CanadianGran Mon 07-Mar-22 18:38:59

I tend to live out of my suitcase, even on longer trips. If I have some nicer outfits they might be hung in the closet. I'm pretty organized with my packing, so things stay tidy and I don't need to rummage around.

DH and I will share an overnight bag if we are are on a longer journey that requires an overnight stop. That way the larger suitcases can stay in the car.

Don’t bother to put things in drawers or wardrobe usually just for one night. Not sure if that is lazy but I just find it easier not to bother. Like to devote the time to more interesting activities.

Ning74 Mon 07-Mar-22 18:58:50

I think we should avoid saying a person’s way of doing things for overnight trip is ridiculous as it borders on judgemental
and this is a friendly light hearted chat ( I hope ?)....

kwest if you Google for packing cubes you’ll find an enormous selection to choose from. Mine were cheap and cheerful ? I put underwear in one, socks, nightwear, slippers in another, all tops in one, jeans and trousers in another etc. Or you could put a complete day’s outfit in one, they’re as versatile as you could need!
They make packing so easy, everything is to hand so no more rooting around trying to find something. I also use a small cube for adaptors and chargers/charging leads.

HowVeryDareYou Mon 07-Mar-22 19:17:25

No, I'd drape it over the back of chair

AreWeThereYet Mon 07-Mar-22 19:33:33

Hang up clean clothes ready for next day (or evening if I am going out). Put toiletries in bathroom. When I get undressed dirty clothes go in the suitcase, followed by anything I won't need again. Then the next day all I have to do is put toiletries away. Takes 30 seconds so not an effort. Never occurred to me not to.

I've got some from Lidl in a chest of drawers for socks, scarves etc but never thought of using them in a suitcase
Duh!

Thank you, Cherrytree

Juicylucy Mon 07-Mar-22 19:56:08

No not for one night unless it’s an outfit for special occasion if so I’ll hang it up.

HillyN Mon 07-Mar-22 21:03:08

I would hang up tops and shirts, put washbags in the bathroom and make sure dressing gowns and slippers were somewhere handy in case of a fire! Socks and undies stay in the sports bag we use for overnight stops, which has a zip pocket on one end for the dirty clothes.

Hetty58 Mon 07-Mar-22 21:14:08

Unpack? Just for an overnight stay? No, never!
