How often do you shower and wash your hair

I was surprised to read on one of the other forums that a lady showered twice a day.
My husband before he retired showed at work before coming home. He did work that required this.
Into retirement I shower two to three times a week and wash my hair once a week. A strip wash daily for me is fine unless I am doing heavy gardening work.
My understanding was that showering too much is not good for us.

I love this type of thread! blush
At the moment I have a bath every other day and a strip wash the other days.
When it’s warmer I bathe at least once a day. Sometimes just to cool down ( I hate the heat )
When I worked I bathed twice a day. In the morning to wake up, and back from work to get rid of germs and relax.
I wash my hair about once every three or four days.

jeanie99, yes, too much washing (especially with hot water) just strips the oil from our skin. Still, some of us might have two showers on a hot summer's day - just to feel clean and fresh. When it's chilly, twice a week, with daily washing, seems quite enough.

How long do people spend in their showers? I'm done and out in five minutes - yet family and guests seem to spend half an hour in there! Next time I use it, I have to turn the temperature right down, from (what seems like) boiling to lukewarm.

I can't remember the last time I had a bath. I have a large P shape bath with shower above and would run out of water before it filled I'm sure.
I'm certainly a quick in and out of the shower and the water is not too hot.
Must close and going out so need to shower LOL

Shower every other day, hair wash every 5/6 days. MrJ showers every day he’s working as it’s a manual job, same as me when he’s not working.
I have an occasional bath in the winter if I’ve got really cold.

I’m a bath girl I get one once a day and wash my hair ever other day and DH jumps in after me. He’s at the gym most days and gets a shower there too. I’m always disappointed if I go to a hotel and there’s only a shower.

Jaxjacky Mon 07-Mar-22 08:26:23

Forgot, quick in and out of shower, quicker if no hair wash.

I alternate between showering and strip washing.

I've fairly recently moved into a complex of supported living flats and am conscious not to disturb other residents as few human beings - and none here - get up as early as I do, 04:30.

I try not to shower before 07:30, by which time I know others are up, and never before 7 - if I need to be up and out earlier, those are strip wash days.

Mostly it's a relatively quick in and out but on Sundays, I wait until about 8, and then go and luxuriate. One of the best things about this place is the massive, hot and powerful showers.

I wash my hair every other day. It is fine and sparse, so the least hint of grease and it claps itself to my scalp, a look I don't have the bone structure for.

Something I’ve done almost every day of my adult life is to jump in the shower every morning it’s a quick in and out, quicker than strip washing. My hair I wash twice a week, used to be every day but I stopped that a long time ago. I will have two on hot Summer days.
We all have different needs and habits so I don’t think it’s necessary to disapprove of other people’s bathing habits wether we wash once a week or every day.

Grandmabatty Mon 07-Mar-22 08:29:08

I shower every couple of days. It's a quick affair as I have very little hair left. I haven't had a bath in years!

Lucca Mon 07-Mar-22 08:29:35

We’ve definitely been through all this before…..
Shower or bath every day …..can’t bear not to. Twice if going out at night. Hair every other day.

Why is a strip wash any easier or better than nipping into the shower?

Grannybags Mon 07-Mar-22 08:33:38

Bath every night before bed.

If in a holiday home or hotel then it's a shower as I can't stand the thought of sitting in a bath that strangers have been in!!

jeanie99 Mon 07-Mar-22 08:36:42

Lucca you have to wash down a shower screen, tiles and bath in our house if you shower.
You only need to wash a basin if you have a stripped wash.

I remember being surprised by the quoted post. Then my wandering thoughts alighted on the idea that some people may have very good reasons for showering twice a day.

Generally, though, I look at these threads and wonder why the OP wants to know such personal information shock. I've never really understood them - unless they are medical.

glammanana Mon 07-Mar-22 08:37:09

A quick 4/5mins shower every morning wakes me up for the day I don't have a bath only a wet room sometimes I wish I had a bath to have lots of lovely bubbles,I wash my hair every 3/4 days depending how I feel.

MawtheMerrier Mon 07-Mar-22 08:39:59

Call me picky but unlike some I don’t like these threads which ask personal questions about our habits.
I know, I don’t need to answer and I won’t, but whose business is it but mine and why on earth would I want to know about anybody else?

Maggiemaybe Mon 07-Mar-22 08:41:21

I have a 2 minute shower every day. Every couple of weeks I treat myself to a bath instead - when I do I’m luxuriating in there with my book and my drink for an hour. Hair wash every 3 days approximately, I use dry shampoo between washes.

I really don’t get strip washes, unless there’s a particular reason for them, like Ailidh’s. They take as long as a shower and are messy (or they are when I do them!).

And I’m disappointed if a hotel doesn’t have a bath as well - it’s the first thing I look for.

lemsip Mon 07-Mar-22 08:42:14

what is a strip wash? surely you could shower in less time to wash bits

NotAGran55 Mon 07-Mar-22 08:44:12

jeanie98 I’m assuming that you are referring to me in my thread about reducing gas usage?

Please go back an re-read the thread and let me know where it says that I shower twice a day?
You won’t be able to.

However, you will find that I explained that we have a family business that can leave the workers covered in grime and needing to ablute at the end of the day in addition to the start.

One to two helpful posters provided information to enable us to reduce the number of hours the water heater is set for to provide for enough hot water in the early evening.

Threads such as this are started on Mumsnet on a very regular basis, they descend into judgmental slagging matches and in my opinion serve no purpose whatsoever.

Nobody is right or wrong, we all live our lives differently in so many respects and I’m intrigued to know what you are hoping to achieve from it?

I don’t!

Oopsadaisy1 Mon 07-Mar-22 08:44:33

Shower in the morning, ( me , after housework), just a quick in and out. Then another If we are going out in the evening. MrOops is so used to having a shower first thing before work that it’s a hard habit to break, but he spends ages in there.
Haven’t had a bath for years, but when I was working I found a bath destressed me.
Trying to wash my hair every 4 days, until last year it was every other day, as I have long hair it was a real pain.
But in Summer we often shower twice a day or as needed.

Well I don’t object to the question at all... it’s ‘chat’ which is companionable and harmless.

I shower and hair wash every other day and wash on the opposite days . When I was young my hair needed washing every day but not now.

foxie48 Mon 07-Mar-22 09:03:48

When I was at work every day started with a shower and my hair got washed most days too. These days it's more on a needs basis. I ride 3/4 times a week and prefer to shower afterwards when I get changed. Hair gets washed so it looks OK when I go out, if it's stuck under a riding hat or stuck in a pony tail when I do pilates or walk the dog, tbh I don't care if it's a bit of a mess but I do like it to look good if I'm out and about. So no regular pattern for me. I haven't had a bath for years but we are redoing the main bathroom with a lovely free standing bath so I'm anticipating taking long relaxing baths in the future.

Fair do’s, but not something I ever discuss with my friends (or would necessarily want to hear about)

I can't function until I've been in the shower. I've been taking a daily shower since I was about 19. I dash in there before I'm really awake and am washed, dried, all creams and lotions applied and dressed within 11-12 minutes. I shower very hot but use only a tiny amount of soap and shampoo. If I'm feeling indulgent or have tense shoulders or a headache I might stay under a little longer.

I agree with Lucca and lemsip: A strip wash is such a faff.
