How often do you shower and wash your hair

I was surprised to read on one of the other forums that a lady showered twice a day.
My husband before he retired showed at work before coming home. He did work that required this.
Into retirement I shower two to three times a week and wash my hair once a week. A strip wash daily for me is fine unless I am doing heavy gardening work.
My understanding was that showering too much is not good for us.

Strip wash? I haven’t had one of those since I was a child and lived with my gran who didn’t have a bathroom. Strip wash in the kitchen and an outside lavatory.

jeanie99, yes, too much washing (especially with hot water) just strips the oil from our skin. Still, some of us might have two showers on a hot summer's day - just to feel clean and fresh. When it's chilly, twice a week, with daily washing, seems quite enough.

How long do people spend in their showers? I'm done and out in five minutes - yet family and guests seem to spend half an hour in there! Next time I use it, I have to turn the temperature right down, from (what seems like) boiling to lukewarm.

We obviously have the same guests Hetty!

Am I just a lousy housekeeper? Why do you have to wash down the whole bathroom after every shower? A quick go on the screen with that windscreen wiper type gadget

I haven’t strip washed since I was 5 and we moved into a house with a plumbed in bathtub.

I always have a bath before dressing in the morning and sometimes another before dressing for dinner depending on how I’ve spent the day. My hair is washed about twice a week.

I have recently returned after spending 4 weeks away in a property which only had a shower. On our return, as soon as we came in the door I started running a bath. Bliss.

Nasty, new-fangled things, showers. I have a bath once a month, whether I need it or not.

I don`t object to questions like this one,if you feel it`s too personal don`t answer.
I shower twice a week, wash hair every four days, use bio-degradeable wet wipes as a quick clean.

Call me picky but unlike some I don’t like these threads which ask personal questions about our habits.
I know, I don’t need to answer and I won’t, but whose business is it but mine and why on earth would I want to know about anybody else?

My thoughts exactly!

I hate drying the shower so I only shower when I am washing my hair, which I always wash if I am going out that day. If not I have a very shallow bath which imo is easier than strip wash, and very easily cleaned..
I don't clean the shower every time. I run hot water down the screens and tiles for a few minutes.
I'm in and out of the bathroom in ten minutes. My husband is at least a half hour. I don't know what he does all that time!!
Sometimes I bath at night to hopefully help me sleep.

If you throw a lightweight large plastic tablecloth over your glass screen (hate them), you never have to clean it.

I only shower when I know someone is coming near me?

JaneJudge Mon 07-Mar-22 11:30:15

every other day I bath wash hair, the day inbetween I shower but don't wash hair
obviously if I have done something that requires a bath or shower I have one

Dressing for dinner? Do you have cook and a butler? And a
bottlewasher?
shock

crazyH Mon 07-Mar-22 11:43:39

Callistemon, I was wondering about that too !!!

Shower around 3/4 times a week, hair twice, wash down otherwise. Skin specialist told me years ago that it would be much better if I showered less often, didn't use expensive moisturiser and let the skin work naturally. Fine if you never see anyone

You would be shocked if I told you when I last had a shower. I am on my own here and in eye-watering pain from a slipped disc, and prior to that had a broken foot. Having a shower is both painful and risky.

I use large baby wipes to wash each day and towel-off shampoo when my hair needs it.

Now - as for my feet - they might as well be in China for all I can manage to do with them. I soak them in a casserole dish.

No-one has yet said I stink.

But did they complain about the casserole? grin

It’s a balance for me between not wishing to waste water or electricity, but sometimes “needing” a bath because of extreme pain or because of stress. I find baths really relaxing and soothing.

Shower every day hair wash twice a week. I very rarely bathe as it is a big cast-iron one on legs we inherited and too slippery and high to get out of without doing yourself a mischief.

Islecat Mon 07-Mar-22 12:43:54

How did we ever survive the 50s and 60s. Tin bath on a Sunday in the kitchen with water heated in a boiler! Hate showers!

HowVeryDareYou Mon 07-Mar-22 12:46:24

I shower and wash my hair every morning, even when I go to Aqua Aerobics grin

GillT57 Mon 07-Mar-22 12:56:44

Crikey, some people like to pick a fight ! If you don't approve of this thread, just avoid it, we don't need to know. Anyway, I shower every other day, and generally wash my hair in the shower, haven't had a bath in years due to difficulties in getting out safely. Generally spend 5 minutes in shower, and although I enjoy it, I do hate drying my hair. I use a wiper on the shower cubicle, works very well, and periodically I give it a going over with some glass cleaner. My worst job in the world is clearing the plug/drain in the shower, even though it is only family hair, it makes me heave.

FannyCornforth Mon 07-Mar-22 12:59:35

Gill I put a little metal strainer on top of my plug hole to catch hair.
Works a treat

GillT57 Mon 07-Mar-22 14:10:20

I have a shower cubicle with a tray, and the drain has a chrome cover on it; this is the bit which makes me heave, when it is lifted there is a bit which catches everything, yuk. We also have one of those metal strainer thingies to put over the drain in the bath which also has a shower over it, and I agree Fanny, it does work very well!

nadateturbe Mon 07-Mar-22 14:28:22

I wondered about dressing for dinner too.
Esspee?

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 07-Mar-22 14:38:27

Another one here wondering about dressing for dinner. Also if your hair ‘is washed’ twice a week is that by someone else? Just being nosey.
