How often do you shower and wash your hair

I was surprised to read on one of the other forums that a lady showered twice a day.
My husband before he retired showed at work before coming home. He did work that required this.
Into retirement I shower two to three times a week and wash my hair once a week. A strip wash daily for me is fine unless I am doing heavy gardening work.
My understanding was that showering too much is not good for us.

”Once a month, whether I need it or not”! Quoting my birthday sister Queen Elizabeth I.

Not really - usually bath using uppy-downie seat twice a week accompanied by cat doing a balancing act on the edge of the bath. Phew!

Shower daily! Hair wash though twice a week on average.

I'll hair wash and shower more on a day if boiling hot, been busy or on holiday abroad.

Fortunately, my showering is more managed today, than it manages me. I am OCD diagnosed.

Though its not aa extreme as cases you can hear about when my mental health is in meltdown my showering and personal hygiene management goes up, daily.

I don't do baths! We don't have one anyway as we have a wet room. I don't like baths.

Like other posters have said yuck at childhood when you only bathed once a week. More though if weather was hot and you had been out in it and were sweaty etc. Shudders at the thought of it now

The family knows to call the Dr in, with me, when showering and rises above 3 times per day.

One part of my personal hygiene isn't managed though as I change my knickers every time I go to the toilet. That won't be changing

I know it's accessive however I don't feel clean unless I do

A bath once a year whether I need it or not lol

I shower every morning and usually wash my hair every other day, more if I'm going out on consecutive days. I remember too clearly the days of one bath a week ... ugh. Whilst I'd quite like to have a bath now and again, unfortunately my knees have other ideas!

I’d feel gross I’d I didn’t shower every day! I nearly always wash my hair every day too.
I quite often have a bath in the evening too
I haven’t shrivelled up or gone crunchy like an autumn leaf due to lack of moisture either. My skin is soft as I don’t use too much shower gel and I put a drop of bath oil in my bath.
I honestly gross myself out if I don’t shower every day.
My mil point blank refused to wash when she got old. The visiting carers couidnt make her either. One day I looked through the card records and discovered she’d been lying about washing and it had been weeks and weeks. I was so worried thst I gave her and the cater no choice and their was actually mould growing in her underclothes. Even when she went into a home she wouldn’t let them wash her as she said she never went anywhere to get dirty!
If I start to go like that I hope someone shoots me as it’s my worst nightmare !

I wash my hair once a week. I would prefer a bath but osteoarthritis means that for 2 years now I've not been able to use ours except to stand in it and use the hand held shower but this is such a fandango that strip washing is easier. Recently we've finally had an ensuite installed so my new routine will be 3/4 showers per week with strip washes in between: too much washing of any type leaves my skin incredibly dry.

I have a long bath most days -it's the only thing that relaxes my neck ,back and knee .
Otherwise it's showers .
I shower before bed otherwise I can't sleep.
Hair wash -two or three times a week and I put one lot of shampoo on as my hair is so long and curly (should have been Victorian with ringlets) and tangles easily .

I shower most mornings when I get up and wash hair once a week. Not sure how showering so much can damage skin. Even a nurse commented on my beautifully soft skin when I had a vaccination.

As I get older I find myself washing at the sink like my grandma, except I use the one in the loo while she used the one in the kitchen/living room!! I hardly ever wash my hear which is nearly down to my waist since lockdown... A friend of mine who had beautiful hair told me you hardly need to as you get older. My husband would tell me if I smell, I know for sure. There: that'll put the cat among the pigeons!

I shower every other day and wash my hair at the same time, I hardly ever go out so I feel that’s enough.
But in summer I shower every day.

I detest showers after 30 years at sea with no choice, but like virtually every sailor I know I bathe daily and wash my hair every other day.

Learned this in basic training in 1967 along with a whole host of other useful hygiene and housekeeping ‘rules’, but prior to becoming a rating my family bathed once a week, on Saturday night.

Retired65 Tue 08-Mar-22 13:41:51

I have a shower every other day in the morning and I wash my hair at the same time. The rest of the time I have a good wash, including all my bits and blobs, morning and evening.

Alioop Tue 08-Mar-22 13:41:56

I shower every day and wash my hair twice a week as it's so thick it takes really long to blow dry it, it makes my arms ache.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 08-Mar-22 13:42:17

Your husband’s sense of smell might not be good or he may have become, as the ad says, ‘nose blind’. Even if your hair doesn’t get greasy it absorbs smells in the air around you, and remember your scalp will sweat. My hair’s below my shoulders and I wouldn’t dream of not washing it a couple of times a week at least.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 08-Mar-22 13:43:07

That was to seadragon.

Strip washes, noooo, not for me! Quite the worst thing when I had replacement knees and couldn't shower. I have a shower most days, wash my hair twice a week and have a bath when very cold or achey.OH had a bath most days as has a mucky stressful job.
But each to its own. My 90 year old cousin has a beautiful walk- in shower she uses once a week, and a strip wash every day. This isn't an age thing, she has done this since her 60's. Like most others, I think a strip wash is such a faff and ot drives me up the wall.

nipsmum Tue 08-Mar-22 13:53:19

I don't think bathing or showering every day is bad for you. I am almost 81 and have had a bath or shower every day since I was 20.. My ChIldren
Dren have had a bath or shower and they are both 50+.

BlueBelle Tue 08-Mar-22 13:53:34

I shower and wash my hair every day and would feel very messy if I didn’t

Kartush Tue 08-Mar-22 13:59:42

I shower every night before bed and in summer if it has been a sticky night I will shower when I get up. I also shower if I have anything like a doctors appointment. We swim every day in summer so I wash my hair probably once a week

mrsgreenfingers56 Tue 08-Mar-22 14:00:56

Daily shower and feel a real mucky pup as my mum used to say if I miss. Very quick in and out. Hair wash twice a week. Don't do baths, not good for your water meter and take far too long and others things to do!

Quite surprised at people who don't have a daily shower, we all sweat and have to go to the loo and thought strip washes went out with the ark.

MissAdventure Tue 08-Mar-22 14:01:09

A couple of times a week is the generally agreed on limit for showers and hair washing.

halfpint1 Tue 08-Mar-22 14:03:31

I haven't read this thread all the way through but find it surprising that it's run to 6 pages of discussion.
I can't understand why so many people want to highlight their hygiene, for what reason?

Opelessgran15 Tue 08-Mar-22 14:03:51

OH has a bath every day, not had- he is still with us as far as I am aware!

MissAdventure Tue 08-Mar-22 14:07:33

grin unless he's gawn daan the plug 'ole.

AreWeThereYet Tue 08-Mar-22 14:10:29

I made the move to here from Mumsnet to get away from this kind of thread

There is no law that every poster has to post on every thread. If it bores you, simple - just hop over to another one or start one you find more interesting.

I wash my hair and shower about every 4 to 5 days, depending on what I am doing and where I am going - my hair is long and curly and starts to frizz by about day 4. In between times I like a nice bath in the evening before bed.
