Cosmetic surgery / fillers

Can I ask if any of you have had cosmetic surgery or fillers in an attempt to make them selves look younger?
Would those who haven’t, consider it if they could afford it?The reason I’m asking is that, a friend of mine has had a face lift and it honestly looks amazing! You’d never know she’d had it done. So natural. She just looks 45 instead of 60! I never knew they Couid look so natural. It’s made me think about if I’d be brave enough if I had the funds.

Allsorts there is a saying about eyebrows

Very old thread but good to remember Germanshepardsmum.

no never would have anything done, take a look at some celebrities who've had fillers and face lifts, they can't smile and it's so obvious why

I'm lucky insofar as I have few wrinkles and a few greys, my 33 year old son has more grey than me, but I still have old lady hands and the inside of my elbow looks older too. I'd never consider having work done to look "younger". I suspect the rising cost of living will put an end to these procedures for a lot of people.

Thank you Kittspurr.
I would like micro blading too, but dragging my feet about that too, I get some very irregular brows sometimes.

Each to their own I would say..Would I have something done..absolutely..Teeth first I think.?

There are some very good ones around. You’ve probably only seen the cheap ones. The good ones you’ll never notice. Your not supposed too.

I have NEVER yet seen anyone who has had cosmetic treatment look anything other than awful. Can’t understand why anyone does it. I include young women with terrible trout pouts etc as well in this. If I had all the money in the world I wouldn’t waste a penny on it.

So is that how it works, if you can’t beat a misogynist society, join them eh?

What's wrong with women?
I bet your husbands aren't spending££££ on having all these procedures.

I see so many smart, botoxd, microbladed, hair extensioned, lip fillered, glam, middleaged women walking along with scruffy, balding, fat, slobby, ordinary looking ungroomed old men.
It's quite funny really.

The husbands aren't matching the wives anymore.

True but then women don’t usually leave the family for a younger man.

Also in the workplace the older woman has a bad enough time getting work so what is the harm if they look a bit younger get and keep the job.

I speak from both experiences.

I don’t know where you live but here in Leigh on Sea that would never be allowed. They come as a pair ?

My point, Foghorn, was that a thread about cosmetic procedures and people’s posts about what they are having done at considerable expense is slightly at odds with the news from Ukraine and the choice between eating and heating which so many are forced to make. Rest assured I’m not sitting here wringing my hands and I have no plight to bewail, being very comfortably off, but perhaps we could consider others who have sweet FA.

I’ll just get my sackcloth and ashes! God forbid we should have a light-hearted discussion about cosmetic surgery!!

Germanshepherdsmum it’s quite possible to operate on two levels, donate or similar to Ukraine or similar worthy causes and take a normal interest in one’s appearance.
I’ve had liposuction on my neck, eyelids done, Botox and fillers, all subtle and wonderful results. Expensive creams are a con, so don’t mind spending money on something that actually works.
I’m a semi retired professional entertainer, so to my mind, it goes with the job, just like choosing the best dress for a performance, but why shouldn’t all women (and men) make the very best of themselves if they can afford it? (As well as taking due notice of world events…)
As for those on the thread who judgementally vaunt their lines, bad teeth and grey hair, preachy or what?
However I think very young women should give cosmetic procedures a miss (unless disfigured or with some distressing feature), so many are at it and I dread to think of the expense they will incur to keep it up in all the years that follow.

Second part of Microblading done this afternoon, I am very pleased with the results but really don’t like the process, as I said before it’s not painful but it hurts if you get my drift..?

Kitspurr Sat 12-Mar-22 11:00:28

Allsorts and anyone else considering having dental implants.

I'm currently going through the process of having three. I was very nervous, thinking that it would be terrible, but, actually, it's not. There are three parts to the procedure, so one implant takes several months before you reach the end product. The first part of the procedure, you do have to have your mouth open for a long time, half hour to 40 minutes, which is hard going.

I'll be having the first crown fitted at the end of the month. I'll be so relieved when I've got 3 more teeth in the back of my headgrin

Also, if anyone's interested, I'm currently using a product to banish hyperpigmentation, called Dr Brightening dark spot corrector. It is unbelievably effective. I've had brown patches on my cheeks for several years and they have almost gone, along with the smaller patches I've got. I've been using it for approximately 3 months.

p.s., for reassurance, I'm a lurker more than a poster, but have been on Gransnet for many years. So this is a genuine post.

I’ve had Botox 3 times a year for the past 10 years due to permanent facial palsy. I’ll be honest it’s not something I’d of ever of had normally, although I have it to try to even my face out she puts a bit in my number 11 lines and for migraines and I have to say yes my skin or rather lack of wrinkles is a bonus so would recommend Botox but quite frankly would never go near fillers. I was also lucky enough about 8 years ago to be given an upper eye lift on the NHS due to my palsy to even my droopy eye out (both were done at the time) and was extremely pleased with the outcome, very natural and nobody knew, just said I was looking good and palsy was looking better. I would love to have another eye lift done again as I feel I need it and would recommend it to anyone with heavy eye lids as long as it’s done by an extremely good consultant which mine was, doubt I’d ever be lucky enough to have it done on the NHS again but if I ever get the money together wouldn’t hesitate. One other thing I can recommend is micro blading of eye brows, as long as you find a really good artist it’s brilliant, wake up and eye brows are good to go.

I had micro blading done 4 years ago and a month ago decided to get it done again so I had the first part of the procedure a few weeks ago and I am going this afternoon to get the finished look. It is a strange feeling getting it done I would say it hurts but it’s not painful, if that makes sense ? (69)

I wouldn't do anything surgical, but I would think about laser or other non-invasive procedures. My neck and jowls are not what they used to be. That's really the only think that bothers me.

But I am stingy at spending money on beauty treatments of any kind. I coloured my own hair for years at home, and do my own manicures and pedicures.

I think a new couch would make me happier for the amount of money spent.

Audi10 Fri 11-Mar-22 22:23:21

No never had and never would! I’m quite confident in the way I look and prefer to steer clear of Botox etc.etc! Each to their own of course but the ones I’ve seen tend to all look the same,

There is a whole lucrative industry now devoted to providing cosmetic surgery, and of course it is the individual’s choice what they choose to do with their own body.
However I am not entirely happy that I live in a society that generates such body dissatisfaction and where the answer is surgery for that dissatisfaction.

BlueBelle Fri 11-Mar-22 20:39:37

It must depend the area you live in as I don’t know any young people having things done, only the pretty lady in her 40s who has ruined her lips, none of my friends have ever had anything done it just doesn’t enter into our heads or lives perhaps it’s more a city thing
Anyway yes I am judgemental because I think it’s vain unless you have a real problem and then it’s a blessing but I agree with gsm irs a first world problem and there’s much bigger stuff to use money for

I was surprised to hear some of my young colleagues discussing all the procedures they've had. These are girls not even 40! Don't know what they'll be like when they're 60. I wouldn't mind a bit of botox myself, but I'd be scared to do it in case I had a reaction like poor Leslie Ash who ended up with a huge trout pout.
