I wonder if the Queen is cancelling her Royal appointments because she is ill or is it because she is missing Prince Phillip being at her side supporting her. She very rarely went anywhere without him.

A loose cannon? I have a neighbour aged 96 who works at the
volunteer Bureau , helps people with forms, accompanies to
Surgery , takes their pets to the vets.

You can consider me the bad guy now if you like.

Any population that wants their country to be represented/headed/led by a woman who has to work until her mid nineties needs to take a good hard look at itself.

I have nothing but sympathy for a 95 year old woman who has been brought up to think that the country will fall apart if she's not reading her mail every morning. What a life.

Still gets in and out of a car, then?

My sympathy is with parents of those who speak of ‘loose cannons’, ‘inability to walk ‘ etc.

Yes I agree about The Queen Mother she was every where until she died.

She didn't have the added pressure of having an Andrew, Harry & Meghan, like thorns in her side, to contend with. Our Queen is also a Mum, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother and the troubles those 3 have piled on her have finally taken their toll.

CarlyD7 Mon 14-Mar-22 12:50:13

Her age, losing her husband, the upset caused by the "spares" (Harry and Andrew); her recent bout of Covid, her frailty, and who knows what underlying health issues are going on. It all adds up to - she needs to let go of the crown and hand it to Charles, and go into a graceful retirement, still being in the background for help and advice if she is asked. BUT I suspect she simply doesn't know what else to do with her life. She has been Queen since the age of 25 and she enjoys it. I'm not sure how she would cope with retirement but I do think it's way past the time she did (perhaps after her jubilee celebration in June).

Elegran Mon 14-Mar-22 12:51:19

I can't imagine her becoming a loose cannon, at any age.

Well, we could be like the USA and want our country to be represented by an old guy with early signs of dementia (both Reagan and Biden) or a lying, cheating, low-life (Trump). Personally, I'll take Queenie any day (but I still think it's time she retired).

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-22 12:55:23

Agree Elegran such intolerance for the aged , it’s frightening

Elegran Mon 14-Mar-22 12:58:12

Perhaps everyone should hold back on comments like "mental frailty", "loose cannon" and so on until after that Jubilee in June. She may be busy even as we post, on an announcement about stepping back a bit (further back?) and letting Charles do more.

Or, we could be like Ukraine and have a Head of State that is brave as a lion and personally leads his people through thick and thin. Or we could be like South Africa and have a HoS that unites the people and leads them in reconciliation. Or we could be like Eire and have 2 subsequent Heads of State that bring their country into the modern world and make life more equal for everyone.

But no, let's stick with people in jewelled hats, because we can't really be trusted to decide on our own leaders, eh?

Do you mean the post above you Anniebach?

Well, actually we can't, can we? (Biden, Reagan, Trump, Corbyn, Johnson)

Kim19 Mon 14-Mar-22 13:06:40

Fanny, maybe the dog confusion is indicative of the trivial unimportance of it?

volver Mon 14-Mar-22 13:07:31

Ach, this democracy, its not all its cracked up to be.

Let the posh folks run the country, that's probably for the best.

hmm

Theoddbird Mon 14-Mar-22 13:08:19

At 96 I don't think she needs to give a reason. She will be resting and contemplating her life and spending time with her family. She is an amazing woman and it will be a very sad day when she leaves us....

FannyCornforth Mon 14-Mar-22 13:09:25

Ooh-ohh! Get you Kim! ? ?

Nowt wrong in being interested in dogs!

HannahLoisLuke Mon 14-Mar-22 13:09:40

She is understandably frail at her age. I don’t think it’s to do with not having Prince Philip around. After all, he retired to Wood Farm at Sandringham in 2017 and didn’t accompany her on engagements for those years.
She’s been remarkably fit and active until recently, even riding several times a week and it must be a great loss to her to find she can’t do what she used to.
Regarding the QM, she was out and about, generally enjoying herself, but in a wheelchair pushed by Backstairs Billy for quite a while before she died.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 14-Mar-22 13:10:30

She doesn’t have to work volver, she chooses to.

volver Mon 14-Mar-22 13:16:48

She chooses to because her whole life has been about how important she is to this country, and that she and only she can fulfil the role.

Even though she is no longer capable of fulfilling the role.

So she chooses to do the bits she thinks she can manage at her age and with her state of health.

And somebody else, who happens to be her blood relative, does all the other bits.

Its a funny way to run a country, really it is.

Noreen3 Mon 14-Mar-22 13:17:15

It's sad to see her looking frail.Losing her beloved husband hasn't helped,I hope she can attend his memorial service. We didn't see her out and about much during the last few years,so we notice the difference in her more now.Lockdown had an affect on us all, even the Queen. It would be hard for her now to travel to an event and have to walk to her seat, and she probably wouldn't want to be seen in a wheelchair. It would be lovely to see her out again in her bright colours, but may not happen now.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 14-Mar-22 13:18:59

She doesn’t run the country volver, the government of the day do that.

volver Mon 14-Mar-22 13:21:00

Where did I say that she ran the country?

We all have a say in the way that this country is run and we have decided that we'll stick with the late 18th century model.

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-22 13:21:11

GSM you don’t get it sorry, the aged must be hidden away, some don’t ’do tolerance, understanding’ here now

volver Mon 14-Mar-22 13:22:52

Annie, you're making things up.
