Radar Love.
For years I thought they were saying
and the line of cars go down in Soho

When in actual fact it was
And the line of cars go down real slow, woah

Same song,

I heard
Brandy-Lea is coming on strong

The lyrics are
Brenda Lee's coming on strong.

My sister used to sing lettuce tomato instead of message to Martha ?

For a good while I thought the line in Substitute by The Who was
Substitute my coke virgin confused
Not:
Substitute my coke for gin

ShazzaKanazza

I only realised this last Christmas that in the song We wish you a merry Christmas that it’s glad tidings we bring you and your Kin and not King as I’ve always sang.

Well I've learnt something today - I've always sung King (or The Kinks when I was a teenager!)

Freddy again. I always thought Beelzebub had a devil for a sideboard - Weeeeee! Didn't make much sense but then very little in that song did to meeeeee!

As for the advert I couldn't understand why a finger of fudge was full of peppery goodness. I only recently found out it was Cadbury goodness.

Rod Stewart
Maggie May
"All you do is wreck my bed"

All you do is wet my bed

For years I always thought Annie Lennox was singing "overblown with fleas" in the song There Must Be Angel

If you wanna taste kisses in my nightie.... jump, jump for my love!

Grantanow Sat 19-Mar-22 10:38:24

There's always 'Gladly, my cross-eyed bear'. Who was Gladly?

GrannyBettie Sat 19-Mar-22 10:39:28

January - you make me sad cup of tea! Instead of 'You make me sad - come and see

I also thought it was Mersey doats and dozy doates (whatever that could mean).

A sort of aside - can't make out the words to the Kayak advert apart from 'beautiful too' at the end.
What is the man doing up his living room with blue samples on the walls saying in the equity release ad?

A song by Hot Chocolate - “I believe in miracles” I always thought they were singing “I believe in milko”!

Geordiegirl1 Sat 19-Mar-22 10:50:56

In ´Groovin’ by The Young Rascals, I always heard ‘That would be ecstasy, you and me and Lesley.’ Instead of ´endlessly’. Well, it was the 60s!

susieken Sat 19-Mar-22 10:51:23

From Lucy in the sky with diamonds I heard ‘ the girl with colitis goes by’ instead of the girl with kaleidoscope eyes!

Krispii Sat 19-Mar-22 10:52:19

Not me, but my then five year old daughter singing "oh bite me, bite me" instead of "Oh baby, baby"
Baby one more time - Britney Spears

Nannan2 Sat 19-Mar-22 10:52:51

My aunt when she was a small child used to say "now i lay me down undressed" for the line "now i lay me down and rest" in a well known prayer.

JeSuis Sat 19-Mar-22 10:53:00

Me? The same! For years, as a child, I always thought Good King Wens Last looked out.! How daft is that?!!!
He must have got very fad up, Looking!! ?

Azalea99 Sat 19-Mar-22 10:55:36

I cringe at the memory, but for ages I couldn’t work out why Madonna sang to her “Spanish Motorbike”. Lullaby makes a lot more sense, I suppose.

inishowen Sat 19-Mar-22 10:57:54

My husband sang "she wore an Itsy bitsy sub santini," as a child and still sings it that way!

ElaineBK Sat 19-Mar-22 10:58:24

In the time warp instead of pelvic thrust, I thought it was velvet glove

Nortsat Sat 19-Mar-22 10:58:54

susieken … I’m crying with laughter …

Nannan2 Sat 19-Mar-22 11:00:31

Sounds like there's a lot of folk needing a hearing check on here??

Photocrazy Sat 19-Mar-22 11:03:45

It took me ages to find out what my small son kept shouting during a buzz light-year film. It sounded like Doody Dindy an be an. ( To infinity and beyond). We still say it to this day.

HunnyBunny Sat 19-Mar-22 11:04:52

In the ELO song Mr Blue Sky, I always thought the ending was them singing Mis-ter Blue Sky.
It isn’t. They are singing Please turn me over (as in a record).
Once heard, i couldn’t unhear it!

Nannan2 Sat 19-Mar-22 11:04:58

Some of these have got to be made up surely????

Bromley Sat 19-Mar-22 11:06:12

I’m 75 years and only just found out that it’s not “Maisie dotes and dozy dotes” etc.
thank you Kim19!
