Radar Love.
For years I thought they were saying
and the line of cars go down in Soho

When in actual fact it was
And the line of cars go down real slow, woah

Same song,

I heard
Brandy-Lea is coming on strong

The lyrics are
Brenda Lee's coming on strong.

Someone said the Bee Gees were singing 'you come to me in a submarine' instead of 'you come to me on a summer breeze' and ever since then I keep hearing the wrong words!

I should have said the song was 'How Deep is Your Love'.

well you learn something every day. I have been a singer all my life and all my family are musical too and play instruments etc so I have always heard Mazy dotes as a that and never new it was animals at all so now at the age of 76 I finally know the lyrics. still fun to sing the other words anyway!!

I was about 7 or 8 when I asked my Dad what the word Wholesale meant. He sat me down and gave me a lecture on buying and selling goods and the difference between wholesale and retail. I was a bit puzzled so I asked him if there was a retail block as well as a wholesale block where everyone was dancing to the Jailhouse Rock. I can still remember the look of disappointment on his face!

His first Christmas at school our son had a good friend called Henry Joyce but was perplexed that the whole class should be singing about 'Good Christian Henry Joyce'

Blondie...I thought it said "The tide is high and I'm moving on
Instead, it's the time is right and I'm moving on
Beach boys I thought it was "Wouldn't it be nice if we were married. Not a bit like the real if we were olderblush

It is "The tide is high but I'm holdin' on" by Blondie. The tide is high is the title of the song.

I always thought that the line from Live and Let Die, "but in this ever changing world in which we live in" was grammatically wrong. Turns out I was wrong as it's, "But if this ever changin' world
In which we're livin'".

Thanks for telling me. So I still need my ears waxed. I wondered why it was shot beside the New York Docks.
All these years I have chortled it around the house and DH has never contradicted me he must think the same, he is a bit deaf.

Freddy again. I always thought Beelzebub had a devil for a sideboard - Weeeeee! Didn't make much sense but then very little in that song did to meeeeee!

As for the advert I couldn't understand why a finger of fudge was full of peppery goodness. I only recently found out it was Cadbury goodness.

I always thought it was peppery goodness

I thought a nonsense song was:-

Mairsie dotes and dozey dotes and little ivy tivey. A kiddllee tivy too, wouldn't you?

Actual:- Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy. A kid'll eat ivy too, wouldn't you?I

I would be embarrassed to tell you what age I was before I discovered this!!
anymore embarassing age than what I am now? These lyrics are news to me!!

News to me too! I’m flabbergasted! Who knew???

When she was little my daughter also sang "It's a Hard Egg" instead of heartache, Casdon. She also sang "It's only worms and worms are all you need..." to the Bee Gees' song 'Words'. Both these errors stuck with us and we still sing them now!

For years I always thought Annie Lennox was singing "overblown with fleas" in the song There Must Be Angel
Me too. What is it really?

Oh dear, so did I! Apparently she’s overblown with bliss. And I always thought the Angel was playing with her harp… blush

So did I ! I asked who Lesley was!…..just got a bemused look .?

I’ve got a similar one to toscalily in that for years, I thought Loudon Wainwright was a duo.

LisaAN Sat 19-Mar-22 19:45:12

I used to think the Bee Gees sang "it's alright, it's ok, you make love the other way' in Staying Alive.

When my kids were quite young they used to sing 'no no there's no lemons' instead of 'no limit'

Thank you JackyB I was miserable with a large ulcer under my tongue and played your clip, went to bed laughing my head off.grin
Thank you.

My mum thought it was " My body lies over the ocean" instead of "My bonny lies over the ocean"

In the song Donald, where's your troosers , a good friend thought Andy Stewart was singing
" Through the streets, in makiltilgo "
instead of "Through the streets in my kilt I'll go"
We discovered this when he asked my husband whereabouts in Scotland the town "Makiltilgo" was as he'd never been able to find it on a map.

In R.E.M.'s The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite, I heard "furniture maker" instead of "Call me when you try to wake her "
I knew it wasn't that, but couldn't work out what is was meant to be.

Desmond Dekker 'Israelites;
For years I thought it was 'Get up in the morning, same thing for breakfast'
It's actually 'Get up in the morning, slaving for master'

How embarassing !!

This made me think of my own misheard lyrics for the same song - Whooaa ‘me ears are alight’ !!

Brenda Lee. Rocking around the Christmas tree

Always thought it was “We’re gonna eat some fu**ing pie, instead of pumpkin pie!!!!!

Pammie1 Sat 19-Mar-22 19:27:08

Mrs Robinson - Simon and Garfunkel. ‘And here’s to you Mrs Robinson - Kevin holds a place for those who pray” !! For years I wondered who Kevin was, until I realised the word was ‘heaven’.

Casdon Sat 19-Mar-22 17:51:31

Bonnie Tyler sang ‘ It’s a Hard Egg ‘ according to my son aged 3.

Mairsie dotes and dozey dotes and little ivy tivey. A kiddllee tivy too, wouldn't you?

My mother used to sing this and I thought the lyrics were -
Mersey dotes and dozey dotes and little lambsey tivey. A kiddely ivy too, wouldn't you?

I've just discovered the real lyrics from your post. I'm 67. A challenge to you and #GillT57 - own up to the age you found out. I still sing this occasionally to my grandchildren. They've asked me what the words mean but I've always said just nonsense words. My day's been shattered. smile
