Utility rooms do you have one/would you like one?

Yes I do I'm happy to say now I have since we moved last year it was on my wish list. In my last house I had washing machine, tumble drier and tall freezer in a section of the garage used for such paraphernalia. Now we have a proper utility room with sink unit, washing machine, tumble drier with cupboards above. On the opposite side of the room, a freestanding second fridge with freezer above, kitchen door to outside and the other side of the kitchen door space with pegs for coats.

We have a utility room. It used to have a sink but that was taken out when we had the utility and kitchen refurbished a few years ago. The utility room has the washing machine, tumble dryer, boiler room/cupboard and lots of cupboards. The small number three freezer is in there. On the worktop over the washing machine and tumble dryer, is a large cat bed for our two cats. I dry non-tumble dryer washing out there too.

My ice cream machine is in there too plus a 30+ year old microwave which still works!

I would love a utility room. Somewhere to put a washing machine, so it can be on in the evening without the spin cycle interupting Eastenders and somewhere to hide the ironing would be great. Not to mention a home for various coats, shoes and dog walking equipment.

I would also love an entrance hall, rather than the patch of floor about 3' by 4' behind my front door so there is just enough room for one person to get in before the stairs start.

I don't think I will get either now, but I guess I should be grateful that I have a nice 3 bed semi.

I love my utility room, when we remodeled the house on moving in I designed as big a utility room as possible. Apart from washing machine and tumble drier, we have boiler, water softener, sink, wine fridge and cupboards to store ironing board, iron, vacuum, broom, bucket and mop. Also has dog food and bowls and has room in a corner for a permanent clothes airer

I would like to have a utility room, and a boot room, and a pantry, and another loo.

But I haven’t.

But I should count my blessings as I have a nice home, just not all these extras!

I have a rear lobby connecting the kitchen to the side door, garage and laundry room, which has a useful cupboard and space for freezers.

The laundry room houses the CH boiler, washing machine, dryer, water softener, utility sink, cleaning cupboard, pulley for airing indoors and table for sorting out laundry.

I do realise I am very lucky noit to have the washing machine in the kitchen.

Wouldn't be without mine. It has a sink, washer, dryer, cupboards and the central heating boiler in. It was invaluable when our boys played rugby - I could use it to soak the very muddy kit, prior to scrubbing it, and save my kitchen sink and walls from getting plastered in mud! ? ? ?

No.. And Yes I would love one.
My house was built just before they became the norm. My chum has the same house as ours built by same builder about 10 months later, they included one in the footprint. At the expense of slightly smaller rooms downstairs.

Yes I’ve got one and I’d never be without it if I could help it. The washing machine and tumble dryer are in it, a sink unit, several cupboards for overflow from the kitchen and it has a catflap in the door which is really useful.

We have had one in our last two houses. There was originally one in our current house but the previous owners made the kitchen and utility room into one big kitchen which is lovely. There is a toilet next to the back door and a door leading to the garage in which we have the washing machine and tumble dryer, a fridge-freezer and a chest freezer. We are happy with this arrangement, the only thing lacking is another sink but there is a small sink in the toilet.

We have a garage attached to the side of our house and we use one wall of this space as a utility room with freezer, washing machine and tumble drier. It works really well for us and cost next to nothing to set up.
It definitely helped us to make the most of our small kitchen.

Yes, the old kitchen became a utility when we extended our bungalow to add a vaulted kitchen. There’s a double sink in there, with the washing machine. Three full height cupboards, one housing the hoover and ironing board, a drawer unit and a little pull out unit. There is a tidy dry to hang washing when not able to go outside. The best bit is the very large deep cupboard that backs onto the boiler cupboard, so always warm, where I keep all the towels, quilts, pillows and goodness knows what else! My tumble drier, which I use very rarely, is in the integral garage, together with second fridge/freezer. There’s also a cubby hole with double hanging cupboard for coats as well as a shoe bench. Having never had a utility room before, I really appreciate it, but the whole building experience was a year long nightmare!

I don’t have a utility room. The washing machine and dryer, which is stacked on top, are in the shower room, which also has double handbasins.. This is off the bedrooms which use to be used by 2DDs. There is a separate bathroom with double handbasins as well, for the other two bedrooms. Being in France, typically, the 2 loos are both separate but have handbasins.
I don’t suffer from utility room envy, cause I love my flat.

I have one that DH calls the artillery room washing machine, dryer and boiler in there.

Yes I do. Washing machine, tumble dryer, storage and then a downstairs toilet. It came with the house, but I’d definitely want room to have one if we moved.

Not a utility room as such but a conservatory built on to the kitchen that we use as a table-tennis (half-size table) and ironing room. It is also where I set up my sewing machine when I have a project to do.
Not overlooking horses in fields GSM, but it is nice to see what's going on in the garden while ironing!

Yes, we’ve a big cellar that we had tanked, plastered and added to the central heating years ago. Our washer, dryer, second freezer, ironing stuff, all shoes and coats are down there, as well as sundry exercise equipment, toys and loads of general stuff that we should probably sort and get rid of. It’s got an old stone sink, plenty of shelving and carpet tiles. We’ve a coal cellar next to it that I wish we’d had “done” at the same time. That one’s handy for general and cold storage, and the wine rack , but the floor’s uneven and all the pipes and wiring exposed. Maybe we’ll get round to it one day.

Our old house had a ‘utility cubby’- washing machine with tumble dryer over it in the downstairs loo., as the kitchen diner was too small for a washing machine. Space was very limited! Now we have a proper utility room in what was an old barn attached to the house. It also functions as a boot room and is a buffer between the garden and the main house. Once the birds start nesting in the eves of our ( very old) house, it’s a good place to watch the parent birds coming and going.

Our cellar was a utility room. The huge old boiler was down there and so drying washing on the TidyDry washing line was a doddle in the winter. And having a large chest freezer, and the space to bag up fruit and vegetables from the garden, without creating a mess in the kitchen, was such a boon with a growing family. But I've no need for that much space now and so don't miss it.

We had a small extension built last year and now have a boot room. It has the tumble drier and a wall of cupboards. According to the council planning department a utility room has plumbing, (washers, sinks etc.) As we don't have those things, but we do have wellies and gardening gloves, we call it 'boot room'. It also has worktop with the recycling bags underneath and a couple of shelves holding cookery books etc.

new build, yes I have a small utility, washing machine, tumble dryer and with a sink unit over a cupboard, wall cupboards over the 2 machines and many sockets. Good for storing and using my appliances such as breadmaker, coffee grinder and for charging my vac cleaner. Sunny east facing with half glass door to outside. I like it very much. A good addition to my small kitchen/diner

No..but the downstairs toilet is just big enough to house the washing machine & the worktop above has cuttings,seed trays etc. I would have liked a proper utility room but can easily live without!

I’ve never had one and don’t hanker after one, I suppose what you’ve never had, you don’t miss. We do have a cloakroom though, that is essential for me, especially when the children were younger.
