Beautiful memorial service for Prince Philip

Just that really.
I thought the Queen looked amazing, considering the time she's had. She looked so dignified as well.
I sort of agree with PA helping her in. After all, he is her son and it's a memorial service for his father.
Also it's a way of showing certain absent members that 'this is what loyalty' in a family looks like.

The children were beautifully behaved and doesn't Princess Charlotte have a look of the Queen about her?shock

It does seem a bit sad that Harry wasnt there.
If this was any ordinary family I suppose we would be saying he has gone No Contact with Prince Charles and that he and the Queen are estrangedparents/grandparents!
Seems a bit cruel to do that to an old lady, in what could be one of her last public engagements.
But that is my opinion.
I'm sure the PH fanclub will be along in a minute to disagree. hmm

Other than that, it was a lovely service.

It’s disgraceful!
Really a mother should do as she’s told and accept the person designated rather than her own choice of a family member whoever we are or whatever the occasion.
I’m sure that if and when we get to that age, we will willingly relinquish any decision making to other people.
After all at nearly 100, women’s minds aren’t as sharp as they once were, are they?

Anniebach Thu 31-Mar-22 10:25:06

Yes Mollygo disgraceful that mothers condemn a mother for
being seen publicly with her son at a memorial service for a husband and father.

PECS Thu 31-Mar-22 10:44:11

Err..no! A Head of State, on a major State occasion, made a choice to have a recently shamed Duke accompany her in a very high profile way.

If it had been a private family memorial she can do what she likes but as a Queen whose children have to to bow or curtsey to her I don't buy the poor mummy story!

volver Thu 31-Mar-22 10:48:15

This ^

I'm not a mother so I take that as carte blanche to condemn anybody I see fit. smile

..................................Oh for goodness sake Give it a Rest everyone
so repetative..all been said over and ove

FannyCornforth Thu 31-Mar-22 11:13:37

Lemsip actually it hasn’t.
This is an all new Royal Family topic; and a very important one, at that

eazybee Thu 31-Mar-22 12:17:07

The title of this thread is *Beautiful Memorial Service for
Prince Philip.*
Better to start a new thread if you wish to discuss, yet again, allegations about Prince Andrew.

Anniebach Thu 31-Mar-22 12:18:30

It isn’t important, it’s just more for republicans to feast on ,
Andrew should have done a Corbyn ‘ I was there but I don’t
know if I was involved’ at wreath laying ceremony

Lucca Thu 31-Mar-22 12:18:38

Or criticisms of Harry ?

Lucca Thu 31-Mar-22 12:19:18

Sorry my post to eazybee

Lucca Thu 31-Mar-22 12:20:49

But the role of Andrew was clearly an issue in the memorial service whether you are for or against. Or is this a thread where there are rules of what can be said ?

PECS Thu 31-Mar-22 12:23:56

There is not much else to say if those of us ,who felt it was not entirely 'A Beautiful Memorial Service For Prince Philip' , are not allowed to voice our opinion! confused

Lucca Thu 31-Mar-22 12:26:52

Plus the OP had plenty to say about harry and Andrew etc !

Anniebach Thu 31-Mar-22 12:28:29

Yes

No one has to buy into anything. We can continue on our usual GN way, making the usual snidey comments, which ever side we're on. The subject(s) of the comments will neither know nor care, but it gives us something to do.

maddyone Thu 31-Mar-22 12:51:14

It’s unbelievable in this day and age that the Queen’s children have to bow and curtsy to her. It’s one of the reasons why I feel that the monarchy has had its day.
I think the Queen showed poor judgment when she allowed/wanted Andrew to accompany her. Of course Andrew hasn’t been found guilty of anything, and of course everyone is innocent until proved guilty, but given that he made a huge settlement to the complainant, it looks a bit suspicious. But of course Andrew should have been at the service, it was for his father after all. I enjoy watching these state occasions, I enjoy the people watching and ceremony of it all, but I’m not sure it sits well with me really. It elevates the status of the person being remembered, it makes them more important than you or I. I believe Prince Philip did a lot of good work, and he supported his wife magnificently, but………..

volver Thu 31-Mar-22 12:52:29

But it is all about “buying in”, isn’t it?

“Buying in” to the fiction that a huge event in central London attended by heads of state and senior politicians was just a family celebrating someone they’d lost. Or that possibly the most famous woman in the world insisting on having her errant son by her side, when his reputation is in tatters, isn’t a political act.

And if you buy into that, you might buy into anything.

volver Thu 31-Mar-22 12:53:32

Good balanced post maddyone.

Anniebach Thu 31-Mar-22 13:03:54

Who were the heads of state who attended ?

volver Thu 31-Mar-22 13:14:03

Queen of Denmark. King of the Netherlands. King of Spain.

etc.

Callistemon21 Thu 31-Mar-22 13:22:34

Members of foreign royal families sat alongside the Duke’s wider family and friends, as well as more than 500 representatives of the Duke of Edinburgh’s patronages and charities.

and Sir David Attenborough

Grandma70s Thu 31-Mar-22 13:27:46

I love every minute of occasions like this. It’s as good as going to the theatre, and it’s one of the few times we hear really high quality music on television. The choir was superb.

Yep! You certainly might!
Let’s carry on in our usual GN way.
Even the idea that . . .
Oops no, TVG would count that as a cross thread reference!

volver Thu 31-Mar-22 13:38:11

I've no idea what TVG is.

Anyone??
